Chapter 148: I Will Save You [1] — Get Ready

-----

After hearing Mirai’s response, Helena sighed and shook her head. She realized there was no way to convince the girl; Mirai was going to do this whether Helena allowed it or not. "Okay, and what is your plan?"

"This," Mirai said. She harnessed Demonic Flames and Chaotic Darkness in both hands, twisting and warping the space around her. Everyone felt the overwhelming presence of her powerful Magic as an incarnation manifested, rapidly fusing with her and granting her metallic demonic armor.

"Y-You awakened as a Spiralwalker?!" Helena gasped. "T-That shouldn’t be possible...! We thought your power alone... this is unprecedented... if only Gustaf were here to witness this...!"

"I will create a powerful Spell and destroy everything within the surrounding radius. Auntie Helena, please protect everyone else," Mirai said. She floated into midair and left the telekinetic barrier.

"Mirai! Wait!" Helena panicked as she watched the girl depart.

The moment Mirai emerged, the sharp roots of the Abyssal Dragon Tree of Ruin detected her lifeforce and instantly moved to impale her and drain every nutrient from her body.

However.

"Let’s do this..."

Mirai sighed as the ten rings on each of her fingers shattered. An immense surge of chaotic energies and demonic power erupted from within her, beginning to transform her into her Demon Form—stronger than ever before.

"I can... handle it...! I can handle it...!"

Groaning with effort, she forced the two elemental powers together once more, choosing to unleash the same spell she had used to purge the Abyssal Dragon Tree of Ruin from her Fantasy Heart Domain.

"Abyssal Demon Magic – Pandemonium of Chaos!"

Chaotic darkness and demonic flames compressed, then erupted violently, shattering the boundaries of space and time. Everything around her warped as chaos devoured matter and demonic power corroded it into pure miasma.

BOOOMMM!!!

An explosion comparable to a nuclear warhead striking Louis’ Grievance body rang out. All branches, roots, and anything else within range disintegrated instantly, leaving only falling ashes and a barren flat wasteland where the noble district once stood.

The Abyssal Dragon Tree of Ruin trembled. Loud roars echoed through the clouds above. The tree had grown so enormous that it now stretched into the skies. Mirai could see the glowing red eyes of its five heads looming high overhead.

"I did it..." she sighed. "But this is just the beginning after all..."

Helena, Catrise, Tisha, and Pekorine flew toward her. They gazed across the vast ruined area where Mirai’s attack had landed, praying no one had remained there too long.

"Mirai... your power is incredible..." Catrise muttered.

"Catrise... are you feeling better now?" Mirai asked. "I know you’re Louis’ beloved maid. I need your help waking him up, please!"

"I..." Catrise murmured. "I will do my best...! Even if I must sacrifice my life... The Prince—no, Louis is my beloved master, and... I see him almost like a son. It breaks my heart to see what he has become because of his immense grief and despair... Please, lead the way, Mirai."

"...Very well, we’re doing this then," Helena sighed. "Tisha, Pekorine, you’re helping too?"

"We have no choice," Tisha said. "Though maybe you should go find our daughter, babe."

"No, I’ll stay. The roots will attack me and that will be the end of me if we separate," Pekorine sighed. "I can still sense Anastasia’s lifeforce underground. She must have escaped into the shelter. The roots are hunting more victims, so we have to eliminate the giant Grievance before it’s too late."

"If there are still people left to save, we cannot just search aimlessly. We have to fight back!" Tisha nodded. "Mirai! Lead the way, girl! We’ll follow you!"

"...Everyone," Mirai felt deeply moved by their words. She had never been a leader before; all of this was too sudden. Yet at the same time, it felt as though everything had been building toward this moment. "Okay...! Ngh...!"

She resisted the endless darkness pouring from her body, containing it within herself and compressing it further. This intensified her transformation. Her long hair turned into dark red and black flames, her two eyes split into six, four long golden horns grew from her head, four pairs of demon wings sprouted from her back, and she gained a long sharp tail. Her skin remained white but was now covered in red markings resembling demonic runes.

At the same time, Demonic Souls and Chaos Spirits constantly emerged from her body, shocking her allies with the overwhelming pressure radiating from her. Helena watched with worry but also quiet admiration.

Noticing how stunned everyone was by Mirai’s powers, Helena decided it was finally time to reveal what she knew about her origins.

"After we spoke with the Dragon King about Mirai years ago, we discovered she was likely the reincarnation of two powerful foes he once fought—Primordial Evils born in Yggdrasil’s Ancient Era: Pandemonium, King of Demons, and Chaos, Goddess of Entropy. Their power was so vast that they hastened the Dimensional Convergence and caused immense chaos across Yggdrasil.

However, both had tragic upbringings and were used by the Primordial Gods of Yggdrasil as weapons. That was also why they eventually rampaged, bringing an end to the Ancient Era and nearly destroying Yggdrasil. Afterward, moved by their story, the Dragon King—my uncle—allowed their souls to reincarnate. When we saw her appear on Earth, we could never have imagined that the reincarnation of two of Yggdrasil’s strongest beings had actually manifested here."

"I-I had no idea..." Catrise said. "So that’s Mirai’s true origin? Did Tisha and Pekorine know this?"

"I had heard some things, but I had no idea either," Tisha shook her head.

"Me neither, so this explains why she’s so strong," Pekorine said. "We once faced such a powerful foe alongside Tisha and everyone else who followed the Dragon King back then... It was perhaps the most arduous battle we ever fought, aside from when the Chaotic Vortex created by the Evil Fairy King Oberon threatened to destroy Yggdrasil. At that time, Drake led a battle against dozens of Venerables and the tyrant from Zipangu who had invaded Yggdrasil—Oda Nobunaga, vessel of the Demon King of the Sixth Heaven, Hajun."
