Spy-x-War Showdown-Chapter 44 - 43 Please Come In
44: Chapter 43 Please Come In
44 -43 Please Come In
Back in London, it was already late at night.
Despite the pressure and the long journey that had lasted through the night, Yang Yi felt anything but tired—in fact, he was brimming with energy.
Because the Dark Night Knight’s crew was ready and waiting.
After ensuring Kate was settled in the hotel, Yang Yi dashed downstairs back to the restaurant, where Danny, upon seeing him arrive, immediately stood up from his chair and said in a deep voice, “Has the target’s location changed?”
“No!”
“Is everyone ready?”
“Ready, Captain.”
At his response, those who had been waiting in the restaurant all along answered with a thunderous accord.
Danny immediately turned to Yang Yi and said, “You’ll come with us.
Watch closely—consider this your payback for being used as bait.”
Yang Yi immediately replied, “Thank you, Captain.”
Danny waved his hand and declared loudly, “Move out!
Hit him!
Knock him over!
Crush them!”
Yang Yi was taken aback, not understanding, but the others broke into an uproar of approval and laughter as they mockingly imitated Danny’s accent while starting to head out.
Ah Ming pushed Yang Yi from behind, chuckling, “Come on, what are you spacing out for?”
Yang Yi, still rather clueless, asked, “What did the captain say?”
“Fight him!
Beat him to death, beat them all to death!
He spouts Cantonese when he gets excited.
You’ll get used to it.”
“Oh, oh, wait for me.”
It was time to get into the cars.
A row of vehicles was parked outside the fancy restaurant.
The captain pointed to Yang Yi and said sternly, “Ah Ming, he’s in your care.
Look after him, let’s go!”
Yang Yi followed Ah Ming into one of the cars.
Once inside, Ah Ming turned to Yang Yi with an irritated look and said, “Had I known tagging along with you meant babysitting, I wouldn’t have come anywhere near you.”
“Brother Ah Ming, I’m really sorry to trouble you.
Thanks a lot.”
Ah Ming waved his hand and said, “It’s nothing, don’t be so formal.
Let me ask you something.
Was tonight thrilling or what?”
“Thrilling!
Super thrilling!”
Ah Ming let out a chuckle and said, “Did you see the Ghost Doctor at work?”
“Uh, I didn’t catch that part, I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to handle it.”
Ah Ming sighed and said, “That’s a real pity.
It’s not something you see every day.
The first time I saw it, I puked for a few days before I got over it.
Disgusting!”
“And yet you suggest I watch…”
“Everyone has to go through it at some point.
The captain calls it ‘courage training,’ but really, it’s to show us what will happen if we fall into enemy hands.
If you want to roll with us, you need to see it too.
Though, you won’t often get the chance—it might only come around once every few years, so you don’t need to worry too much.”
“Thanks, Brother Ah Ming.”
Driving the car, Ah Ming suddenly held up two fingers.
Ah Jiang, who was in the passenger seat, lit two cigarettes in his mouth, then handed one over to Ah Ming.
Their movements were practiced—it was clear they had done this many times before.
After taking a drag, Ah Ming blew out a smoke ring and said, “Just don’t tell the captain, alright?
He quit smoking and forced us to do the same, saying it’s bad for health.
Everyone knows smoking’s bad, but the problem is, you can’t just quit.
Hey, Yang, want one?”
Yang Yi hastily replied, “No, no, thanks.”
Ah Ming shook his head and said, “You can’t smoke?
That won’t do; you have to learn.
Start now.
I tell you, when you need to smoke, you should be a chain smoker, and when you can’t, you better not touch a single one.
Get what I mean?”
“I understand, thanks for the tip, Brother Ah Ming.”
Ah Ming shook his head and chuckled, “Don’t be so polite.
We’re likely to be eating from the same pot soon, mate.
Ah Jiang, give young Yang a cig.”
Ah Jiang handed over the cigarette and lighter to Yang Yi, who immediately said, “Thanks, Brother Jiang.”
Ah Jiang said gruffly, “I’m Wang Wenjiang.”
“Uh, thanks, Brother Wang.”
Wang Wenjiang shook his head and said, “Don’t call me by my surname and better not call me ‘brother’ either.
Just call me Ah Jiang usually.
That’s for internal use and okay to say to outsiders, but better not.
And you absolutely cannot say it when we’re out on a job.”
“Alright, Ah Jiang…”
Ah Ming laughed and said, “I’m Ye Ming.
You can call me Ah Ming.
From now on, we’ll call you, let’s say, Little Handsome.”
“Little Handsome?”
“What, you expect to be called Big Handsome?
It’s for when we’re doing a job.
Normally we’ll just call you Little Yi.
No, that sounds like we’re calling for a little auntie.
Let’s stick with Little Yang.”
Yang Yi responded awkwardly, “Okay, Little Handsome, I’ve got it.”
Ye Ming burst into laughter and said, “Little Handsome, looking all tidy and nice, you could charm the ladies.
How about I take you out for some fun sometime?
Or should I introduce you to a few beauties?
Your girlfriend’s injured, you must be feeling antsy these days?”
The conversation was veering towards the risqué—a typical man’s talk—but Yang Yi hurriedly protested, “No, no, she’s not my girlfriend.”
“Not your girlfriend?”
“Truly not!”
“Well, then I definitely have to take you out for some fun.
Just wait, I’ll set you up.
What’s your type?
Don’t be shy, you caught that killer with your own hands, it’s on me!”
“…”
“No way, right?
You’re still a virgin?”
“…”
“Good grief, how did you even survive all these years?
If I were you, I would’ve gone crazy with fun, I swear you’ve been wasting your life away!”
“I…
didn’t have time.”
“Bullshit, just wait, I’ll find you a nice, pure one later.”
Wang Wenjiang suddenly said, “No, thanks, I’d prefer someone more mature.”
“Really?”
“Yes, really, mature is better.”
Ye Ming and Wang Wenjiang began to seriously steer the conversation off track, and Yang Yi couldn’t help but interrupt, “Um, what are we going to do now?”
Ye Ming exclaimed loudly, “What do we do?
We’re off to kill, of course.”
“Aren’t you guys nervous?”
Wang Wenjiang merely shook his head with a smile, while Ye Ming put on a wildly exaggerated face and said, “Nervous?
What’s there to be nervous about?
I’ll tell you, the first time you kill someone, you might shake a bit, get a jolt, but after that, you don’t feel much.
It’s just like doing that thing, exactly the same.”
Wang Wenjiang nodded, “Yeah, it’s the same, nervous the first time but not anymore after that.”
Yang Yi was completely speechless by then, and Wang Wenjiang suddenly became ferocious, “Tonight I’m going on a rampage!
No one had better try to stop me, I’m avenging Xiao Feng!”
Yang Yi was startled, “Xiao Feng…
is he dead?”
“Not dead, but in critical condition.
The Dark Night Knight hasn’t been provoked in years, these guys just had to have the guts to do it!”
After casually throwing his cigarette butt out the car window, Ye Ming said loudly, “Don’t throw your butts in the ashtray, the captain will chew us out.”
Yang Yi quickly lit a cigarette for himself, returned it to Wang Wenjiang, and coughed, “Got it.”
Ye Ming and Wang Wenjiang veered off-topic again, so far off that Yang Yi could not join in, as his face reddened just listening, unable to participate no matter what.
With the showdown impending, Ye Ming and Wang Wenjiang showed not the slightest hint of nervousness.
Only Yang Yi was anxiously imagining what would come next, wondering if a fierce gunfight was about to unfold.
Finally, the car stopped, and Yang Yi’s heart immediately leaped.
Ye Ming and Wang Wenjiang too became serious at last and stopped discussing which place had the prettier girls.
“Follow me later, don’t make a move without orders, and make sure you stay hidden if a fight breaks out.
Probably no guns, but still, be careful and, whatever you do, don’t make a sound!”
Yang Yi swallowed hard and whispered, “Okay, I got it.”
Wang Wenjiang dashed toward Danny, while Ye Ming looked left and right before gesturing at Yang Yi to come closer and whispered, “Follow me, and stay close.”
The car stopped outside a small apartment complex in a rather chaotic district with below-average security.
Streetlights were broken and no one fixed them, especially at 3 in the morning when there was not a soul in sight.
Danny stood at the entrance to the apartment, shook his head, then looking up at the building, he whispered, “Is this the place?”
“That’s right.
According to the WiFi positioning, it’s room 3E.
Everything’s been checked out.”
“Is there a back door?”
“No, just this one entrance!”
Danny ran his hands through his hair and said in a deep voice, “Third floor, they could even escape by jumping out.
Surround the place!
We can’t let anyone get away!”
Ah Yao waved his hand and then pointed, instructing, “Teams of two, surround the building, and you two, guard the entrance.”
Eight people were allocated to encircle the apartment, after which Danny reached behind him and drew out his P7 pistol.
“Follow me!
Take them down!”
Yang Yi could clearly see the excitement on Danny’s face when he said to kill them.
It seemed like everyone was relaxed except for Yang Yi.
Ye Ming gave Yang Yi a knowing look, signaling him to stay behind, and then with six others plus Yang Yi, they silently yet swiftly entered the apartment building.
There was no one guarding the door, so the group reached the third floor without any hindrance.
By that time, except for Yang Yi, everyone had drawn their guns, and apart from Danny, each person had an additional cold weapon besides a pistol.
Ye Ming had a knife in his hand, while Wang Wenjiang held a triangular spike.
As for Ah Yao, he suddenly produced a machete half a meter long as if by magic.
Yang Yizhen had never imagined that Ah Yao, who usually handled scalpels, would use such a large machete in a fight— not the kind meant to scare people, but with a thick-back, sharp-edge that could chop thick bones in half with a single strike.
Danny quickly located room 3E, glanced at the door number, and then raised his pistol before shaking his head.
Wang Wenjiang and Ah Yao immediately moved to the right side of the door, the captain took a step back, and two guys named Jia’an and Ben took positions on the left, readying for the assault.
Only Ye Ming pulled Yang Yi back a step and gestured for him to stay quiet; holding his gun in one hand and knife in the other, he too took on an attack-ready stance.
Danny nodded, then Wang Wenjiang positioned himself at the door, lifted his foot to kick it in when suddenly a voice came from inside.
“There’s no need to kick, the door’s unlocked.
I’ve been expecting you for some time, friends from outside, please come in.”
This took Yang Yi by surprise, and he noticed that Danny at the door also changed color, quickly stepping aside.
But within moments, Danny sighed in relief and then chuckled, “Alright then, I’m coming in!”
