Chapter 11: Too Nervous

He knew that he needed to break the standoff somehow; however, from the looks of it, someone was even more eager to do it than him.

Growing impatient with the standoff, the man’s gaze toward Desther actually softened.

"Boy, you said you were just passing by, right? As long as you promise that you won’t say anything, you can go now. I won’t hold you accountable. I promise!’ he stated softly.

’Pretty convincing...’ Desther thought.

’If not for the fact that your hand had tightened on the mace’s handle, that is.’

Having experienced life and death countless times before being rescued, being cautious and observant was already second nature to Desther.

The slight movement of the man’s fingers did not escape his eyes at all.

"Sure, Mister. But I’m just a kid, and I get nervous easily. So, don’t make any sudden movements, alright? I might accidentally pull the trigger," Desther stated, his fingers tightening on the revolver’s handle as well.

Seeing his movement and realizing that Desther did not fall for his tricks, the man gritted his teeth in anger.

"Leave while you still can, boy!" The man glared as he tried to lift the giant mace off the ground.

BANG!

A resounding bang echoed as the .357 revolver was fired without warning.

With a double-action revolver in hand, he only needs to pull the trigger to fire.

"Y-you!"

The man was visibly enraged. He did not expect Desther to fire the revolver all of a sudden.

He looked down and noticed the blood dripping off his left chest.

"I told you I get nervous easily," Desther stated without a change of expression.

With his current strength, the recoil was nonexistent.

While speaking, Desther had already pulled the trigger once more.

Although he hit the spot he aimed for, he was not foolish enough to believe that it would be enough to finish the man off.

As a Tier 1 Awakened Professional, his primary attributes have already been enhanced countless times compared to a normal human.

The man may not be bulletproof yet, but he would surely be able to survive if it was just a single shot.

He had initially wanted to aim for the head but went on the safer side. The head was a harder target compared to the man’s broad chest after all.

True enough, the moment Desther pulled the revolver’s trigger again, the man noticed it immediately.

Even with blood dripping off his left chest, the man did not show any signs of weakness at all.

He was able to move fine. However, compared to before, there was obviously a flaw to his actions.

He tried to lift the mace, wanting to use it as cover. However, just like earlier, he failed.

The giant mace did not even move an inch.

"DAMN IT! WHAT’S GOING ON?"

This was the reason Desther decided to fire the first shot.

When the man shouted at him earlier, he noticed that he tried to lift the mace but was unable to do so.

Although it happened quickly, it did not escape the eyes of Desther, who was already searching for clues.

And that clue was more than enough for him to confirm the effect of Attribute Theft towards the marked target.

BANG!

The second bullet traveled at extreme speed.

PUTSIK!

The man grunted in pain. This time, a bloody gush appeared on his left neck.

Desther cursed his left hand for having a bad aim. With the man being wounded, he had already tried to aim for the head and go for the kill.

However, the man moved at the last second, and instead of his head, the bullet was only able to graze his neck.

Dether prepared to fire the third shot as the man clutched his bloody neck.

He was not careless and did not try to come closer.

Two shots fired, two shots landed.

The neck and chest were bleeding profusely, but the man was too tenacious to die with just two bullets.

If he needs to empty his chambers to kill him, Desther would gladly do it.

At the corner of his eyes, Desther saw that Lexie had already dashed out of the way but chose to ignore her for the time being.

Desther originally wanted to steal her attributes as well. However, his eyes remained glued toward the man, so he had no time to steal her attributes at all.

On the other hand, the man’s face grew ferocious seeing that Desther was about to pull the trigger without hesitation once again.

’What the hell is wrong with this kid!’ The man cursed inwardly, finding his actions quite peculiar.

Not befitting a kid of his age.

This was the first time that he had seen such a bloodthirsty kid.

There was not even an ounce of nervousness on his face as he pulled the trigger twice in succession.

In truth, the two bullets that struck him have already made him very wary of the Desther.

He knew that if he did not make a move, he would surely die.

’Hah! Me? Die? From a mortal kid? Impossible!’

He also has his pride as a Tier 1 Awakened Professional.

Suddenly, red veins started to pop all around his body. The veins continued to expand, and they seemed to be on the verge of bursting.

BANG!

The revolver was fired once more.

The man, with ferocious eyes, finally let go of the heavy mace.

Instead, he put up his right arm, successfully blocking the bullet that tore through the air.

The third bullet struck his forearm. Blood burst out but was unable to pierce through his thick arm.

Without waiting for Desther to pull the trigger once again, the man had already dashed forward with extreme speed.

"Be careful. He’s going to use the warrior skill, [Charge]."

Lexie’s warning entered Desther’s ears.

However, everything happened too fast, and it was already too late by the time Lexie realized what the man was about to do.

Gritting her teeth, Lexie endured the pain she was feeling, activating her skill that came with her awakened talent.

Swoosh!

Her figure blurred, and in the next moment, she appeared between the charging man and Desther, who had already pulled the revolver’s trigger.
