Chapter 40: Leaving

Although they were at a disadvantage with the first confrontation, John did not feel like letting it go that easily.

Contrary to what Kevin has done, Desther’s action toward them seemed overly excessive. His attacks clearly have the intent to kill due to the force he used on it.

At least, that was what he thought.

If he knew that Desther did not even use his full strength and capabilities, John would surely not think the same.

By pressuring Desther and Lexie regarding school rules, he wanted them to still abide by their objective, not allowing anyone to pass.

Desther, though, did not feel any kind of pressure at all.

He was already prepared for any scenario to happen anyway. Taking action without considering the consequences was just not his style.

In fact, he did not even bother responding. Contrary to what John was thinking, he actually does not plan to escalate the situation any further.

A tooth for a tooth, and a nail for a nail.

He had already taken revenge for what they did to him. His anger was easily soothed, and he was not some bloodthirsty demon who would kill anyone for minor disagreements either.

Of course, Desther has a great memory. What happened today, he would surely not forget easily.

However, the same could not be said for Lexie.

"Hmmp! Do you think I’m just a statue here?"

"Didn’t I tell you already? What happened here would reach Teacher Rosa’s and the school’s ears. Don’t even bother threatening me. You of all people should know what I can do, John! And yes, that’s a threat." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Silence pervaded the surroundings. Even the aggressive Adrian feels silent upon hearing her words.

John gritted his teeth in anger. He obviously knew what Lexie meant by her words.

"Let’s go!" Lexie stated, taking Desther’s hand as she dragged him away from the scene.

He took one last glare at John and the others, and only when she realized that they had taken her threat seriously did she continue forward, while beckoning for Elena and Noah to follow.

Adrian and Miguel were about to say something to stop them from leaving, but John could only raise his hand to stop the two of them.

"Enough!"

"But John, are we just going to let them go just like that?"

"He’s right! What about the task Victor has given to us?"

John frowned but ultimately just allowed Desther and his group to leave his range of sight.

"So? What do you suggest we do? Stop them? I can’t stop them. Can the two of you stop them? If not, just fucking shut up!" John glared at the two of them as if he was looking at two idiots that were trying to argue with him.

He looked down and saw Kevin still lying like a log on the ground.

"Wake him up!" He ordered as he picked up the shield that Desther threw earlier.

The edges were damaged after hitting his arm, but overall, it was still usable.

"As for this incident. I’ll explain it to Victor. Let’s just call it bad luck for encountering them here."

...

Meanwhile, Desther and the others quickly ran toward the exit portal.

"Sigh! We’ve gone far enough. You can let go of my hand now!"

It was only then that Lexie realized she was still dragging Desther with her hand. She quickly let go of it, acting as if nothing had happened.

The Exit Portal was no longer that far from the area.

If they did not get stopped by John and his group, they would have arrived in front of the Exit Portal by now.

The group increased their pace as they sensed the Exit Portal getting closer and closer.

Whether it was due to the earlier event or they just did not have any topic to talk about, the group remained silent as they ran forward.

Elena and Noad may look calm, but they were obviously shaken from what happened earlier as well. Especially after seeing Kevin collapse to the ground like a corpse.

A moment later, the Exit Portal was finally in sight.

It was of the same size and color as the gate outside. The only difference was that the swirl was moving in the opposite direction, a clear indication that the portal leads to the outside world.

Ahead of them, Desther and the others saw that there were already a number of people present.

A quick glance from afar and Desther immediately saw Teacher Rosa waving her hands toward them. Right beside her was a man of huge stature. He should be the expert that remained inside the dungeon to manage it.

Seeing the familiar face of Teacher Rosa and the others, Elena and Noah finally heaved a sigh of relief. The tensions were released from their shoulders as they got closer to the familiar face of their teacher.

It was at that moment that Lexie suddenly stopped to face the two of them.

"Guys, regarding what happened earlier... Can you allow me to narrate everything that happened to Teacher Rosa personally?"

Elena and Noah looked at each other before their gaze shifted toward Desther and then back to Lexie.

"It’s fine by me," Desther stated plainly.

Hearing that Elena and Noah nodded their heads one after the other as well.

Lexie smiled in relief after getting their approval.

"Hey... do you think he’s still alive? Kevin... I mean," Noah suddenly said before they could move forward.

Elena visibly paused after hearing his words. This was also what she wanted to hear the most.

Although they acted nasty earlier, they still could not deny the fact that they were classmates.

Even though she was shy and introverted, Elena had still spoken to Kevin a few times before.

Not to mention Noah, who was even a little friendly to Kevin before.

Seeing him collapse like that stirred some emotions inside them.

Maybe it was confusion. And maybe it was fear.

Or perhaps, just the harsh truth of realizing the brutal and mischievous truth of the world they now lived in.
