SSS Awakening: I Can Steal Attributes-Chapter 7: Chosen One
[ You acquired the title, { Chosen One } ]
[ Clear the Dungeon, or Die! ]
A title, especially one recognized by the World System, was not something that could easily be obtained.
Titles, like Talent, possessed different kinds of effect.
Usually earned through difficulties and rewards for completing difficult challenges.
’And yet, why the fuck did I get one the moment I awakened?’
Feeling as if the world was purposely dragging him into trouble, Desther gritted his teeth and decided to inspect the ominous title as well as the clear message it brought.
Although faint, he still held onto the hope that he could still get away from this predicament by waiting for the experts to intervene.
[ Title: Chosen One ]
[ Description: You are the destined savior of humanity.
Destiny favors you. Luck is on your side.
You will receive missions according to your encounter and receive corresponding rewards. ]
’That sounds ominous...’ Desther grimaced, looking at the title’s description.
’This title is pretty bad. Not only does it not give me any powerful skill, but it even wants me to slave away behind the so-called ’mission’? Hell nah...’
From the description alone, Desther already knew that this title would only bring him endless trouble.
He continued to inspect. The mission that this title was referring to seemed to be the dungeon clear message earlier.
[ Mission: Clear the Dungeon, or Die! ]
[ Details: Prove that you are worthy of the title and clear your first dungeon. ]
[ Objective: Break the dungeon’s core and clear the dungeon. ]
[ Reward: Skill x1 ]
[ Time Limit: Before the dungeon mutates. ]
[ Penalty: Death ]
’Damn it. I knew it wasn’t anything good!’ Desther had already lost count of how many times he had cursed inside this dungeon. Still, he would absolutely do it again just to express his dissatisfaction with this series of unusual turns of events.
For others, this might be a good thing. For him, though, he felt that this was a punishment.
He had already experienced his fair share of troubles and dangers during the Age of Descent. Surviving all of that, he only wants nothing but a serene and quiet life.
He was not some masochist that wanted to suffer every day to become the greatest hero, the strongest man, the richest man, or whatnot.
"So why the hell did I get this title? Where the hell did this even come from?"
"Bullshit RNG!"
Seeing the mission ’Clear the Dungeon, or Die!’ was a clear indication that he could not escape this predicament at all.
Escaping meant death, and waiting for the experts to arrive meant death as well.
This was all on him now.
Waiting it out for the experts to come in and clear this dungeon was no longer an option for him.
Since there was no escape, he could only face it head-on.
"Bring it on! I have survived the Age of Descent alone. Do you think I am afraid of a mere mutating dungeon? Think again!"
Desther did not miss the obvious sign regarding the mission time limit as well.
It clearly states that the time limit is up until the dungeon mutates.
He was now in an F-Threat Regulated Dungeon managed by the school.
He reviewed everything he knew regarding this dungeon as he began to formulate a plan.
’According to the study material, the Dungeon Core should be situated at the center of this dungeon. In the map, the area is even marked as red, as the dungeon boss was there, and it is absolutely forbidden for students like me to go there.’
However, he had no other choice now. He must go, or he will die.
Since this was a Regulated Dungeon only used for awakening students, the monsters should have been cleared regularly, and only the dungeon boss and core were left to keep the dungeon running.
This meant that his main concern should be that boss that was guarding the core.
Still, regular monsters could spawn, so there was still a chance that he would encounter one while moving toward the center.
’No matter. I’ll sprint all the way there in case the school sends a Tier 2 or even Tier 3 expert to clear this dungeon and prevent a dungeon breakout.’
Now, he must not only race against the dungeon’s eventual mutation; he must also race against humanities experts and not allow them to reach the dungeon core area ahead of him.
With so much to consider, Desther did not waste any more time as he began his preparation.
He took off his backpack and rummaged through the items one by one.
’Found it,’ he thought in delight as he felt cold and hard metal touching his fingers.
Pulling it out, a glistening silver revolver came into view.
’It’s been some years since I last used this,’ he thought to himself as he inspected the gun’s condition.
Memories of his endeavors during the Age of Descent resurfaced in his mind, but he was too tense regarding his current situation to reminisce about those memories that he should have long forgotten.
Of course, this gun was not something he had bought.
This revolver was something he got during the great escape. Back then, the revolver was loot he took from one of the corpses, and he has used it ever since.
Until he was found by the rescuers and brought to safety, the .357 revolver had always been his partner and the only thing he trusted the most during those dark times.
He killed his fair share of low-level monsters... and well, some humans with this revolver during that time, too.
Nowadays, although guns were still prohibited, their regulations were no longer as strict as before.
For low-tier citizens, guns could potentially save them from dangers when a monster suddenly attacks or when a dungeon break suddenly occurs.
Of course, one could not openly show them either, as it still involves considerable risks even with the awakened around.
Just like his classmate earlier, who flaunted his pistol, which ended up getting confiscated by Teacher Rosa and was only given the moment he entered the dungeon.
If he had just hidden his gun like Desther did, he would not have ended up in that situation.
He was not sure if his revolver could help him with this mission, but it was better than nothing.
The chamber still has six rounds inserted in it. He inspected his stash and realized he only had another six more.
Not expecting something like this to happen, he did not bring a lot of extra bullets. These twelve were supposed to be just for self-defense and could only be used as a last resort.
Knowing that time was of the essence, Desther discarded some things in his backpack to lighten the load as well.
And speaking of loads, he did not forget to unstrap the ankle weights and decided to leave them behind as well.
He could not afford to be wearing those while dealing with the dungeon boss, after all.
After preparing everything, Desther did not forget to inspect his talent this time, knowing that it should be able to help him greatly in this situation.
As he inspected the details, though, Desther could not help but let out a curse again.
