Chapter 35: Chapter 35: The Rising Chaos

The assassin suddenly straightened his posture.

The wounds on his body trembled as a violent aura erupted outward.

"You’ve made a great mistake by pushing me this far, boy. Now, prepare for hell..."

The smile on the mask turned sinister, and the ground beneath him cracked.

All around him, Ether erupted like a storm.

"I was suppressing my power because of cursed body because it cannot sustain my full power for long. But now..."

"I have no choice."

Adonis’s pupils shrank as a dark and suffocating pressure descended.

This isn’t the aura of level 20 anymore.

The assassin’s aura exploded.

The next moment, he vanished.

Adonis barely reacted in time.

His body bent unnaturally, spine arching like rubber as the blade passed through where his torso had been.

Still.

A second strike followed instantly.

Bang.

Adonis was launched into the carriage wreckage.

Wood shattered as blood spilled from his lips.

"Cough. Cough!"

He stood again, but—

"Too slow," the assassin repeated with cruel satisfaction.

Another blow. "Bam!"

Another impact. "Crash!"

Adonis’s did his best to dodge by twisting, stretching, bending in impossible ways to avoid lethal strikes, but the sheer difference in speed and power was overwhelming.

And now, he was being toyed with. Dragged across the ground like a ragdoll.

Even with his Chaotic body, the damage was piling up.

His breathing grew heavier. His vision blurred at the edges.

With a smug confidence, the assassin walked forward while swaying his legs as if he was a Circus clown.

His curved blade pointed toward Adonis’ nech, just inches away.

"This is your end, boy. Enjoy in hell."

Swish!

As the blade move closer to his neck like a flash, Adonis was strangely at calm.

"So this is as far as I go?" he thought to himself. "It was short and enjoyable, but I hoped to lived it little longer."

"And that promise to Millia... I have already failed to keep it."

However, when death seemed almost certain, a different sound echoed.

"Clang!"

The assassin froze, while Adonis’s eyes widened. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

A single hand stopped the blade.

The hand looking incredibly tough as diamond was old. Wrinkled.

And yet, It held the Assassin’s blade firmly in place.

Even, the dark aura of the Clow masked assassin shattered like glass upon contact.

The assassin’s body started shaking violently

"W-what?"

Standing between them was an old man.

He wore simple robes, presence almost unremarkable.

But the space around him felt immovable.

His old grey eyes were calm. Too calm.

"You’ve gone far enough," the old man said quietly.

"Don’t fuck with me, old man. Let go!"

Shouting, the assassin tried to pull his blade back. But it did not move. Not even an inch.

Realizing the overwhelming difference in power, cold sweat ran beneath the clown mask.

"WHO! Who are you?"

The old man did not answer. He simply tightened his grip around the blade.

Crack.

The assassin’s blade fractured.

In that instant, fear replaced everything else.

Adonis, barely standing, watched in silence as the old man sliced the assassin’s body into countless pieces.

The old man’s skill was so terrifying that those pieces were placed neatly in one place, just like how a master butcher slaughters a slain cow.

After doing this masterful work, the old man turned back to Adonis, flashing a smile.

Adonis finally got to recognize the old man as his vision cleared.

"Oscar? Why are you here?"

Something felt off the way he asked the question, like suspicion.

Despite that, Oscar, the old librarian in Kingsbane Castle, didn’t take offense.

"I was sent by Lord Duke to look after you, boy. You should be sharp enough to understand why?"

"Father sent you to protect me?" he muttered as if he still couldn’t believe the fact.

The old man laughed.

"Why are you surprised by that? Your father cares more than you understand."

"I see. But what was the need for following in secret? Everything feels so coincidental."

"It’s because I was also ordered to find the person behind the assassination attempt."

Adonis pondered over the statement while looking over the dead bodies.

"Then I hope you find something equally valuable to these people’s lives."

Oscar raised his eyebrows.

"Of course I have, boy. Who do you think I am?"

"A hidden overpowered NPC?"

Oscar frowned.

"What does NPC mean?"

Adonis shrugged. "Nothing. Just tell me the name of the mastermind."

The old man hesitated before replying in a hushed tone, "It’s Duchess Clementine. She probably couldn’t stand that an illegitimate child was rising up beyond her control."

Adonis smiled faintly, hearing this.

"Haha... our Duchess is a truly miserable creature, isn’t she? To think someone like me, who has no desire for the throne, could haunt her dreams so effectively. How amusing."

The old man freed one of the horses at the same time he was listening to Adonis’ dark voice.

Adonis may seem calm, but Oscar felt as though a devil was speaking through him.

After stopping before Adonis, he said,

"Calm yourself, boy. Your Ether energy is going unstable. Lord Duke will handle the Duchess accordingly."

Oscar climbed up, then indicated Adonis to do the same.

Adonis followed with a swift jump. But Adonis" aura still remained chaotic.

"Now, we must continue to the Capital," Oscar announced, pulling the reins. "You are young and your path is long. It does not end in the dirt of a forest road."

The horse galloped thunderously under midnight sky.

Adonis lived for another day. Whether his survival was coincidental or according to a grand plan of destiny, he didn’t know. Nor anyone else.

But since he survived, he was sure will not stop. Not unless he reaches the apex of the world he created.

In the far, far distance, at the same time, a certain pink haired Princess sung lullaby. It was one of longing, one of eternal madness.

Nearest to her, a red haired girl, bullied by time and history, also waited. To see the light of new day. On the day, she will not have to suffer anymore.
