Standing Next To You-Chapter 50: To Get Along
Chapter 50: To Get Along
Bei Sangyun sighed. How could she get rid of these people?
"I made some nonsense remark at that time. From now on, there’s no need for you to do that."
"...Oh." The group looked disappointed. They seemed to be happy bullying Fei Chuan under Bei Sangyun’s orders.
Bei Sangyun shook her head. How desperate she was at that time to even use this group of teenagers?
Bei Sangyun was about to leave the room when she noticed several footsteps following her. She looked back and saw that her ’fake friends’ were also preparing to leave with her.
Bei Sangyun: "...."
She sighed once more, feeling more headache. "There’s no need to follow me. Just use your free time however you want."
If she was surrounded by this group, they would look like gangsters ready for a fight. She might scare Fei Chuan again.
"But we want to hang out with you." The group looked at her with expectant eyes.
"There’s no need. I have some personal business. Don’t follow me."
The group still wanted to follow when Bei Sangyun glared at them. She did not want to repeat herself again.
The group of bullies paused in their steps and appeared disgruntled as they turned in another direction.
Bei Sangyun resumed her steps. But then a loud voice called out to her from behind.
"Hey, Sangyun!"
Lin Sunji rushed up to her.
Bei Sangyun paused again and looked back at her in annoyance. She really hated it when people kept blocking her way.
"What is it?"
Lin Sunji was equally annoyed at Bei Sangyun’s response. How dare this person answer her in that arrogant tone? This bitch was clearly looking down on her!
She really did not want to talk to Bei Sangyun, but since it was her first cousin brother who was asking for a favor, she had to do it.
"What happened to you in these two days?" Lin Sunji asked arrogantly.
Bei Sangyun raised the corner of her lips, "What does it have to do with you?"
This person dared...!
Lin Sunji held back her anger and asked through gritted teeth. "You are acting strange. Of course, First Brother will be worried about you."
"Ah... So Lin Zhe put you up to this."
The little patience Lin Sunji had ran out. "How dare you say First Brother’s name with that dirty mouth of yours!"
Bei Sangyun shrugged, "He’s not Vlademour, why are you getting angry because of a name?"
Bei Sangyun suddenly paused as she remembered that she too, once in the past, had also been angry because of a ’name’.
"Ah, right. People have the right to be angry because of that. But it wasn’t even your name, why are you so angry?"
Bei Sangyun shook her head. "You know Sunji, take a little advice. Don’t make me angry or provoke me. That’s one way for you to survive. And use your head a little. You are not any better than Xiaoni when it comes to intelligence."
Lin Sunji stood in shock as Bei Sangyun left.
She was no better than that stupid Xiaoni?
How could she put her in the same category as Xiaoni! She was deeply insulted.
"Sangyun...." Lin Sunji’s eyes blazed with deep anger and hatred as she watched Bei Sangyun’s back.

Bei Sangyun walked towards the cafeteria. It was self-study time, so there were a lot of students loitering around the hall. Some students saw her and immediately recognized her.
"It’s Lin Sangyun of Class 3-1A!"
"The school tyrant is here. Where are her lackeys?"
"She’s heading to the cafeteria, right? Could it be she’s looking for her target?"
"Her target is that Fei Chuan from Class 3-1A, right?"
Bei Sangyun: "...."
She had noticed it before, that she was famous at school.
She thought it was because she was one of the heirs in the Lin family. But after returning this time and paying attention to their gossip, she now realized that she was actually famous for another reason.
Was her reputation truly this bad at this school?
When she arrived at the cafeteria, the lively hall that had been full of laughter suddenly fell silent when someone mentioned Bei Sangyun’s name.
They all gazed in Bei Sangyun’s direction. Their loud voices hushed, and their attention was all on her.
Bei Sangyun was already accustomed to people’s attention on her. It wasn’t any different from when she became the family head, and people feared her. She had no problem facing the eyes of the massive crowd as she looked around the cafeteria for a certain person.
And there, she found him.
She resumed walking toward the corner of the cafeteria. The students’ gazes remained on her, and they whispered in hushed voices.
Although Bei Sangyun could only hear unclear whispers, she knew what they were currently discussing.
They must be guessing if she had come here to bother her target again.
Fei Chuan, who was eating with his head bowed, also noticed the strange atmosphere. The lively hall suddenly turned quiet, and he felt someone’s gaze on him.
He looked up and happened to meet Bei Sangyun’s gaze.
His eyes, hidden beneath his bangs, furrowed.
Hadn’t he warned her before?
Fei Chuan put down the packaged cookies he was about to open and faced Bei Sangyun with a determined expression, as if preparing for an impending confrontation.
"Hey, can I sit here?"
Fei Chuan, prepared for what might come next, was momentarily taken aback.
He didn’t expect Bei Sangyun to ask for permission. Based on her usual attitude, she would typically just arrogantly take the seat, kicking him out of his chair, and leaving him with no choice but to find another place to eat.
"Silence means yes, so I’ll take this." Bei Sangyun plopped down in the chair and cast her eyes on his food.
"...There’s really chicken soup," Bei Sangyun muttered.
Then her gaze drifted toward the transparent Tupperware with cookies inside. She showed interest.
"Are those Grandma Pei’s homemade cookies?"
Fei Chuan suddenly hid the Tupperware and looked at Bei Sangyun cautiously.
Bei Sangyun: "...."
This scene suddenly reminded her of the time when Fei Chuan accused her of stealing when they were kids.
He was still quite protective when it came to cookies. It seemed that teenage Fei Chuan still had a liking for sweet things.
Bei Sangyun raised her hand, "I won’t steal them, I promise."
Fei Chuan: "...."
He realized the movement he did and became embarrassed for a moment.
He did not hide the cookies because he did not want to share; it was just that Bei Sangyun might steal it from him and throw it on the floor, crushing it with her shoes. There was a possibility that she might do that.
Bei Sangyun was a big bully who made him suffer every day, after all.
He put back the Tupperware on the table again, "I did not say you can sit with me."
"But I already did. It wouldn’t be polite to kick me out now, would it?" Bei Sangyun replied with a smirk.
Fei Chuan gave her a suspicious look. Why was she seeking him out? What was she up to?
"What do you want?" he asked cautiously.
Bei Sangyun shrugged. "I don’t know."
Fei Chuan: "...?"
She glanced at the Tupperware. "I came because my body was hungry, but I have no appetite."
Truth be told, she wasn’t entirely sure why she had followed Fei Chuan here.
Perhaps the twenty lonely years that Fei Chuan spent with her in that lonely grave had forged a strange sort of camaraderie. She didn’t dislike him as much as she used to.
In fact, she felt more kinship with Fei Chuan than with anyone in the Lin family or anyone in this world, except her grandma.
Maybe this time, they could try to get along.
Fei Chuan: "...."
He did not understand why she was saying this to him at all. What relation does it have to do with him?
Fei Chuan’s frown deepened. Was this some new form of harassment? Was she trying to play mind games with him?
His guard went up as he stared at Bei Sangyun.
In his eyes, she was the worst of the worst among the people he knew. There was no way she had shown up without some ulterior motive in mind. He braced himself for whatever might come next.
Bei Sangyun couldn’t help but glance at the cookies again and suddenly felt hungry. She was a bit surprised.
Did she actually have an appetite now?
No matter how appetizing the dish in front of her appeared, she had never desired to eat it. She knew that the taste would be as bland as clay in her mouth.
She looked at the half-empty bowl of chicken soup that Fei Chuan had just eaten from.
The smell of chicken soup and the expectation of rich flavor made her hunger intensify.
As if on cue, her stomach suddenly growled.
It was loud enough for Fei Chuan, who was sitting across from her, to hear.
Bei Sangyun: "...."
Fei Chuan: "...."
Embarrassed, Bei Sangyun coughed and said, "...I told you, I was really hungry."
Fei Chuan scrutinized her, trying to understand her intentions.
"Are you not going to eat this?" Bei Sangyun pointed at the leftover chicken soup in Fei Chuan’s bowl.
"I’m finished eating," Fei Chuan replied. His appetite wasn’t very large due to his lingering illness, and the cookies were his way of getting some energy back.
"Then let me have a taste." Bei Sangyun was genuinely hungry. It had been a long time since she had felt this way.
Before Fei Chuan could respond, she took the bowl and his spoon and took a sip.
A savory and comforting taste washed over Bei Sangyun’s tongue.
The rich, mild flavors with hints of chicken, vegetables, and seasonings rushed in, a sensation she had long forgotten. It was like her numb tongue suddenly became alive which shocked her greatly.
Bei Sangyun dropped the spoon in shock.
