Starting With SSS-rank: I Get A New Skill Every Livestream-Chapter 32: Only option
He had to take a bus to reach his parents’ house, which was located in a rather secluded part of the city.
This side of the city was mostly occupied by wealthy individuals: businessmen, actors, doctors, and others of similar standing.
To enter the community, he had to show his identification and confirm with the resident he intended to visit.
Walking down the quiet street, Kyle couldn’t help but sigh.
There was a time when he used to jog along these very roads early in the morning as part of his routine.
It hadn’t been that long since he started living on his own, but truthfully, he didn’t miss this place.
Luxury was one thing. No one could deny that having enough money to afford a comfortable and worry-free life was desirable.
However, what he had lost during those years of living with his parents was something far more important.
Himself.
If someone asked him about his favorite moments from childhood, he would first need to think whether any truly existed.
On his birthdays, when children usually celebrated with friends, visited arcades, or simply did whatever they liked, Kyle was forced to attend gatherings hosted by his father to strengthen ties with influential figures.
As mentioned before, the Astortia family’s standing in high society wasn’t particularly strong, so maintaining connections with other powerful families was a necessity rather than a choice.
So yes, between comfort and life, he chose life.
Soon, he reached the villa where his family lived.
Taking a deep breath, he stepped onto the front lawn and walked toward the main entrance.
Ding
He pressed the doorbell, and after a moment, the large wooden door slowly opened from the other side.
The person standing there was a blond maid he recognized immediately. She was one of the three maids serving the Astortia family.
She gave him a brief bow and said nothing.
Kyle stepped inside wordlessly and looked around. It had been over six months since his last visit, yet almost everything remained the same.
After climbing a few steps, he entered the reception hall where he spotted his parents.
His mother and father were seated side by side, calmly having tea.
Their eyes fell on him, and the first thing the man asked was, "Did you attend your classes today?"
Kyle sighed inwardly. Of course, that would be his first question.
Nodding, he replied, "I attend all my classes and I’m keeping up with the others."
This time his mother spoke. "You didn’t perform well last semester. Don’t use your brother’s condition as an excuse to fail again."
Kyle felt a mild irritation rise within him. Their behavior hadn’t changed in the slightest. Even now, when Blake was fighting for his life, they acted as though everything was perfectly normal.
He remained silent for a moment before asking, "Where is he? I’ll go see him before leaving. Clearly, my presence is an eyesore for both of you."
The couple seemed slightly taken aback by his words. But before they could respond, Kyle turned toward the maid.
"Where is Blake?"
The maid glanced briefly at the master and mistress before answering quietly, "He is upstairs."
Kyle said nothing more and walked away.
As he climbed the stairs, he muttered under his breath, "Sometimes I just can’t understand what they truly feel or mean."
[Do you want to hear the system’s judgment, host? It might be a little harsh.]
Kyle shrugged. "Go on. Nothing you say about them could shock me."
[From what the God’s Eye has observed regarding your brother, your parents have most likely lost hope of him standing as the face of Astortia again. As a result, they are turning to the only option left for the family’s survival.]
[You.]
Kyle slowed for a moment before letting out a short snort. "I hardly believe they would ever rely on me. And despite everything, they are still our parents. Surely Father must be thinking of a way to save Blake."
This time, the system didn’t respond.
Kyle didn’t press the matter further. Soon, he reached the door.
Taking a deep breath, he pushed it open.
A slow, steady beep from the ECG monitor greeted him.
Across from the entrance stood a large bed where his broken and battered brother lay.
However, what caught Kyle’s attention was the woman sitting beside it, holding Blake’s hand with red, tearful eyes.
He recognized her immediately.
"Corella?"
Corella Dimitri was his brother’s close friend and someone who had liked him for a long time. Kyle knew about it, and apparently the entire family did as well, except for the man himself.
She wiped her eyes and said softly, "Kyle."
"Did I come at the wrong time?" he asked, ready to leave if she needed more time alone.
However, she shook her head and stood up. "No, I was about to leave anyway..." Her voice trembled slightly, revealing that she was far from composed.
It was understandable. Like everyone else, she must have been informed about Blake’s chances of survival.
And the worst part was that there was a high chance she didn’t even know the true cause behind his condition—
[Host, she is an awakened entity.]
"..."
Well, forget about that. She already knew what had happened to him.
But knowing the truth wouldn’t lessen the burden.
She soon approached him. Her eyes were still wet, so Kyle said gently, "Please try to keep yourself together. Everything will be fine."
Just then, the tears spilled over, and Corella suddenly hugged him.
"Oh, Kyle!"
Of course, she would get emotional. She probably believed Kyle didn’t know the true cause of his brother’s condition or the fate that awaited him.
In her mind, Kyle must have thought Blake had simply been in a road accident and would soon recover.
Kyle sighed softly and didn’t try to correct the misunderstanding.
Not long after, Corella composed herself and left, leaving him alone with his brother.
Kyle let out a deep breath and approached the bed.
A small vial appeared in his hand as he looked down at his pale brother.
Let’s see...whether his efforts meant anything.
