Chapter 44: Trust Me

Somehow, Lorelai felt a little better hearing those promising words again.

She needed his help. She desperately needed it, even though she was not entirely sure what kind of help he could offer right now.

Still, she clung to his neck with her shaking hands, burying her face into its comforting warmth, and sobbed quietly, as her body continued to lose its strength.

All of a sudden, her condition began to worsen. The heat within her chest started to spread all over her body, beads of cold sweat breaking through her skin, and she started heaving for air.

It kept getting worse with every shallow breath she took, slight trembles coursing through her limbs as if the lightning continuously struck her.

"Lorelai!" Rhaegar brushed the princess' damp blonde hair away from her forehead, checking her body temperature with his gentle touch, and Lorelai could not help but groan at that little action.

Even the hot lycan blood running in his veins now seemed frozen compared to her own temperature and the man began to worry that the dose given to her was too much for her petite body to handle.

But that was not the only thing that concerned him right now. Lorelai's feverish state, her continuous moaning, and her hot breath on his skin began to drive him crazy too. With that powerful stimulant heating up her blood, her intoxicating scent was all he could think about.

Entering his bedroom, the king carefully sat on top of his large, soft bed, still pressing Lorelai against his broad chest.

Half-lifeless, the princess could barely support her own body so Rhaegar placed his right hand on the back of her head, moving her face closer to his, their lips almost touching.

'The stimulant must have affected her this strongly because she is so thin, I bet she has not eaten anything today either. There are only two ways out of this situation: her blood will boil her organs down and she will die, or I will have to take a leap of faith and hope that my arrogant offer will be indeed successful.'

He looked at the princess' flushed face and sighed. 'If he is indeed my mate, this will definitely work.'

With that thought still lingering in his mind, Rhaegar slid the thumb of his left hand over Lorelai's hot, damp lower lip before pressing his own lips against it, moving upward and forcing her to open her mouth.

The moment their lips touched, Lorelai felt her body melting down once again, but instead of pushing the king away, she clung desperately to him as if her body was being pulled to his with invisible magnetic force.

As his tongue pushed inside, he tasted the remains of the wine in her mouth and frowned. Slowly, he broke away from the kiss and checked her condition again.

The princess was still gasping for air, her eyelids closed, tears streaming down her cheeks, and she began to chew on her lips as if begging for the kiss to continue.

Rhaegar let out a sigh of relief. It seemed his innate powers might indeed work on her tonight.

He softly cupped Lorelai's cheek, his thumb wiping away her hot tears as he tried to comfort her. "Don't cry, it's alright. Even though it was planned, you are still lucky you met me and not someone else. No one will ever learn about this. I promise you. Just trust me this time as well."

Both his consoling whisper and gentle touch were torturous for the princess. She could hear him clearly but she did not care for the meaning of his words. Or rather, her body refused to follow that little common sense that was still left in her.

Then, another wave of trembling shook her body like an earthquake.

She could feel her blood seethe inside her veins as it set her insides on fire. Panic washed over her as she thought that her body was melting, and now even her head was no longer in any control.

Lorelai tried to open her eyes but no matter how much she struggled, she could not tell whether she had succeeded or not, as everything always stayed dark.

Has she gone blind? Or could she no longer take charge of herself and would forever stay like that?

Meanwhile, Rhaegar stared down at her, his amber eyes darkening as his inner beast urged him to take control. For the first time in years, he could practically hear a distant animalistic growl pestering him, and this time, he really had no choice but to cave in.

'Fine. I give up. You can finally get your fill.'

Lorelai started convulsing. Clutching desperately at her own flesh, she bent her back backward, groaning miserably as the stimulant began to demand its saturation.

Watching her suffer from heat, Rhaegar, too, was losing his cool and his own ache resonated with her.

Still, he had to remain human. At least partially. At least with her.

"Just like before, I need to hear it from you. I need your consent, princess. I need you to let me know if this is what you truly want."

Lorelai parted her lips and her hot breath reached the king's face.

She knew what she wanted but even as the fever was about to reach its peak and break her body in half, the princess could not help but struggle to find logic behind her desire.

He was there to help and she was helpless.

Lorelai opened her mouth again but no words came out. With yet another powerless groan, the princess reached out her hand and grabbed the fabric of his black robe, pressing her red, sweaty face against his chest.

That alone was enough of an answer. Rhaegar moved his right hand down Lorelai's back, wrapping it around her thin waist. Then, he laid her onto the bed and looked down at her shaking, hot body, feeling the clarity leaving him completely.

'There is no way back now.'
