Stranger Danger-Chapter 1149: Devi Ruyi
Chapter 1149: Devi Ruyi
Jinpeng Moyun’s eyes bulged. His face contorted with exertion as he tried to open his mouth or raise his hand repeatedly. However, it always ended with him closing his mouth and lowering his hand.
It was because he could not spot a weakness in his opponent’s stance no matter how hard he tried. He did not dare to attack because of this.
He knew he would lose if he didn’t act.
He was equally sure he would lose if he did act.
If both action and inaction resulted in defeat, then why struggle? Why bother resisting at all?
As his Dao heart became shaken, Jinpeng Moyun’s gold complexion began peeling bit by bit like old paint. The light in his eyes was gradually dimming as well.
His martial heart was broken, and his martial will was stomped into dust by this man.
He had lost. He had utterly lost.
“No life, no self, no Buddha, no profoundness, no emptiness, no thoughts, no will, no worry, no flaw...”
It was at this moment a mellifluous, ethereal voice that sounded like singing or a poem recital came from above. It sounded both wonderful and sacred.
Pure, holy white lotuses began falling from the sky, and colorful auspicious clouds rode gusts of fragrant breeze into the battlefield.
Killing intents began disappearing amidst the rain of white lotuses.
Energies began receding amidst gusts of clear wind.
And bloodthirst began evaporating amidst auspicious clouds.
Ye Qing stopped in his tracks before he knew it. He looked up into the sky with puzzlement in his eyes.
It was because the voice had gradually shaved away at his killing intent until there was nothing left.
Earlier, Jinpeng Moyun had, without any good reason whatsoever, attacked them and tried to kill them. He treated them as lightly as one would treat an ant or a moth.
Therefore, Ye Qing wanted to give him a taste of his own medicine. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.
Naturally, he was overflowing with killing intent and bloodthirst.
However, the ethereal voice had somehow removed all that. His killing intent was gone, and his bloodthirst had receded into the deepest corners of his heart.
One moment he was resolved to kill Jinpeng Moyun, and the next, nothing.
Right here and now, Jinpeng Moyun might as well be a total stranger.
Not only that, his heart felt as clean and pure as a mirror. It was completely rid of dust, ash, sorrow, joy, anger, and hatred.
He was a Great Grandmaster now. Few could bend his heart, much less change it. This was before mentioning that he practiced the “Paranirmitavaśavartin Heavenly Demon Sutra”, the martial art of heart manipulation and mind control. And yet, it was a fact that his emotions and thoughts had been altered without his knowledge.
The worst part was that he hadn’t sensed any spiritual ripples from the voice at all. He didn’t feel any alarm or disgust either.
It was quite anomalous and terrifying.
If even he wasn’t immune to the influence, the others could only do worse.
The monks’ killing intent began melting.
The terror on the golden warriors’ faces began subsiding.
The snarl in Jinpeng Moyun’s eyes, the struggle on his face, the defeat and sorrow in his heart vanished into nothing as well.
His eyes regained its clarity. His expression turned cool and indifferent. His wobbling will and defeated heart became strong and pure once more.
If the warrior no longer placed any value on victory or defeat, life or death, then the sky might fall, and he still would not be affected by it.
“Luck as one wants...”
It was at this moment a warm, sacred, and ethereal voice came from a building shaped like a Buddhist temple, and a woman stepped out into the open.
The woman was dressed in white. She had long purple black hair that was bound using a blue ribbon and cascaded down her back like flawless silk. Her eyes were pure and translucent like the mountain streams of morning, deep and infinite like the starry sky. Her countenance was exquisite and flawless like a celestial from the nine heavens, pure and sacred like a spirit of the mountains.
“Luck be with you, Devi...”
“Luck be with you, Devi...”
“Luck be with you, Devi...”
As soon as they saw the women, the people immediately pressed their hands to their hearts and bent their backs in respect.
Jinpeng Moyun was the same, though his eyes flashed with a tinge of passion and longing that the others lacked.
“Thank you for your help, Devi[1] Ruyi.” Jinpeng Moyun stepped forward and stood next to the woman.
If the woman had not calmed his heart and dispelled the emotions tearing it apart, his Dao heart might be in pieces already. He might live forever under Ye Qing’s shadow and never be able to progress in his martial way again.
“You’re welcome, Prince Moyun.”
The woman saluted back and replied in a pure and gentle voice that resembled flowing water.
“Luck as one wants. Rise, everyone.”
The woman saluted the others as well before finally looking at Ye Qing. “Well met, scion. I am Ruyi. I deeply apologize for my people’s rudeness. I hope that you and your two companions can find it in your hearts to forgive our transgressions!”
The woman bowed to Ye Qing, Yi Pin and Old Man of Snowy Mountain as she said this. Her words were short and to the point, but one could not help but feel that it was overflowing with sincerity.
When Ye Qing gave her no response, Devi Ruyi continued, “The item you are holding is called the Buddha Emperor Blood Sutra. It is the sacred object of my Mara Sect. That is why we were blinded by joy and greed earlier. We are willing to pay you a great gift if you are willing to trade us for it. Will you give us the chance to atone for our crimes?”
Ye Qing still did not respond to her words, and Jinpeng Moyun’s eyes grew colder. “Devi Ruyi is the Devi of my Mara Sect. She is a Bodhisattva incarnate who is blessed by the Buddha Emperor himself. You should be honored to receive her apology in person. How could you be so rude?”
Yi Pin and Old Man of Snowy Mountain were keeping silent as well, but Jinpeng Moyun did not even look at them. In his opinion, they were no different from ants.
“You mustn’t act like this, Prince Moyun. We are the ones who are in the wrong. It is reasonable for the victim to feel aggrieved by our actions. You should be ruminating over your actions and striving to do better, not criticizing others for not reacting the way you want them to.”
Devi Ruyi’s reprimand was pretty harsh, but for some reason, no one—not even Jinpeng Moyun himself—could feel displeased by it. In fact, he felt wholly soothed and convinced by her logic.
Ruyi then looked at the trio again and asked, “Scion, householders, is there anything you want? We will see it done if it is within Ruyi capabilities.”
“Can we request anything?” Ye Qing cracked a smile after thinking for a moment.
“As long as it is within reason!” A haggard-looking old woman answered as she stepped out from behind Devi Ruyi.
The old woman was very old. Her face was covered in wrinkles, and her figure resembled a withered, shrunken branch. She looked like she had one foot in the grave. However, Ye Qing could sense a vast and terrifying power hidden deep inside her body. Her cultivation level was on par with Jinpeng Moyun, but Ye Qing could tell that combat wise, she was a tad stronger than him.
Neither Jinpeng Moyun nor the old woman concerned him though. From the beginning, Devi Ruyi was the one and only person who had his full attention.
The reason was simple. It was because he couldn’t see through her cultivation.
Since he couldn’t see through her cultivation, he could not figure out her true strength as a matter of course.
In his senses, Devi Ruyi was no different from an ordinary person. He could not sense any ripples of energies from her body, much less identify her cultivation.
She could not be an ordinary person though.
An ordinary person would not be able to influence his emotions and state of mind with just her voice.
An ordinary person would not be able to become the Devi of the Mara Sect.
An ordinary person would not be able to make a proud man like Jinpeng Moyun submit.
If Devi Ruyi wasn’t an ordinary person, then she could only be the opposite.
A terrifying, powerful warrior.

So, Ye Qing replied after a moment of thinking, “Okay. I want you to get out of the way.”
