Chapter 608: A Heated Argument

"I’m sorry."

This time, Enkidu’s apology was more sincere, and Sicario just put his hand on her head and ruffled it kindly before telling her that it was alright. Enkidu nodded, and she felt glad that the plan was still moving forward. Even though Enkidu didn’t know the full extent of Sicario’s plans, she trusted him enough to know that he only had the best intentions at heart. And even if his plans turned out to be something dangerous, then it wouldn’t matter. Enkidu would burn the world to the ground if it meant that she could help him accomplish his goals.

But all of a sudden, Enkidu’s face soured, and she turned to Sicario and spoke with a small pout.

"Hey, back there, why did you introduce me as your colleague rather than your wife?"

"It’s because we’re not married. I already told you, you’re too young for me."

"Eeeh? But why does that matter! Age doesn’t matter, as long as we love each other! In my world, we can get married at any age!"

"It matters because I practically raised you, and in my world, I’d be a pedophile if I married you. Now come on, we have a long way to go."

Sicario flew ahead without bothering to respond to Enkidu’s outburst as she followed behind him.

[The World of Vanta]

[Later that Night]

Jason could tell that Gina was pissed. It wasn’t common for Gina to ever be angry. Jason knew that Gina was a very easygoing person, and she was mature enough to ignore anything that wasn’t worth arguing about. Gina could have entered many arguments both as a student as well as when she was a member of the Panthers guild, but she just never bothered to concern herself with those things since she knew they weren’t worth her time. But the fact that she rarely got angry only meant that when Gina actually got angry, her anger was like a literal storm!

Gina stormed into their room in the Vanta royal castle with a deep frown on her face, and she walked over to the wardrobe and started to grab a change of clothes without a single word. Jason entered the room after Gina and walked to the center of the room while watching her. Gina was moving with an intense jerking motion that looked like she was close to exploding, and Jason put his hands on his hips and let out a small sigh as he spoke.

"Gina..."

"I don’t want to talk about it."

Jason sighed when he heard Gina say this. Jason already knew that Gina would be angry at him, but he didn’t think that she would be this angry. Jason and Gina had come back to the castle a few minutes ago, but they had to talk to Queen Bethsha first, since she had sent out a literal search party when she noticed that they were both not in the castle. Jason’s stepmother had mobilized nearly the entire army because she thought that there was a problem, but thankfully, Jason and Gina came back quickly enough, and Queen Bethsha made Jason promise that he wouldn’t leave the castle unless he let her know first. That had only been a few minutes ago, and Gina had done her best to make sure that she smiled and thanked Queen Bethsha without revealing her anger at all. But once they were alone, Jason noticed the way Gina’s smile melted away, and he realised that he was in for one hell of a conversation.

"You need to take your bath before bed and change into this."

Gina came back from the wardrobe with a change of clothes for Jason that looked more comfortable, and she put the clothes on the bed before she walked up to Jason and started trying to help him with his jacket. But Jason could see the deep frown on her face, and he knew that her anger was still as intense as ever. Jason immediately stopped Gina and grabbed her by the shoulders.

"Gina, talk to me. Please. I don’t like seeing you angry."

Gina looked up at Jason when he said this, and she saw him looking down at her with a soft gaze. At that moment, Gina almost felt all her anger slipping away just from seeing Jason look at her like that, but Gina forced her anger to remain in place. There was no way she could just let this go without having a proper conversation! Gina wrapped her hands around herself and frowned up at Jason as she spoke.

"Why didn’t you tell me when you were fighting the Beast?"

Jason frowned and answered calmly.

"I didn’t go looking for trouble, Gina. It found me. Why would I go looking for something we already left behind?"

"I don’t care if you went to look for it or not. Why didn’t you call me when it found you? You decided to fight against it on your own and left me here because you didn’t think I could handle myself!"

Gina threw her hands in the air as she said this, and Jason let out a calm sigh and ran a hand through his hair.

"Gina, you know that isn’t true. We’ve been in many battles together, and I’ve never tried to stop you from fighting before. But you don’t understand what sort of monster this beast really was. It was tracking me for more than twenty worlds, and it would have continued tracking me unless I stopped it here. I was just trying to look out for you."

"And who was looking out for you!?"

"I have the Legion."

"I don’t care about the Legion! They aren’t me! They don’t love you like I do! You left me behind and allowed them to stay with you because you didn’t think I could handle it!"

"Gina, calm down."

Jason tried to reach for Gina, but Gina shrugged Jason off angrily and stepped away from him with a frown. Jason had no idea what was going on. This was the first time that Jason would see Gina this heated over anything. Both of them have had fights in the past, but they were usually capable of handling things calmly and talking about it, but right now, Gina didn’t look like she was interested in a conversation at all!

Gina’s hands were still wrapped around her stomach, and she spoke in an angry tone.

"You don’t get to tell me what’s safe for me or not! I wanted to be there for you! I just wanted to make sure you were safe!"

"Well, you couldn’t!" 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

Gina looked up at Jason in shock when she heard him finally raise his own voice. Jason’s expression had turned from one of confusion to one of anger, and he let out a curse as he gave Gina a straight answer to why he didn’t let her come with him!

"Do you know why I didn’t call you!? It wasn’t because I didn’t trust you, or because I didn’t want you to fight with me, it was because I saw how easy it was for that beast to kill my Legion subordinates! All it took was a single hit for Ragnar to die! Braga didn’t even last more than five seconds close to the ice, and Trigon was crushed under the beast’s feet like he was an ant! Those are my strongest Legion members, Gina! They have more power than you! Now, imagine what a beast of that caliber would do to you! What the hell did you think I would do!? You thought I’d call you out there just so you can be crushed a million times over when trying to protect me! I can take the punishment! I can handle being hit and crushed by the beast, but I can’t watch you die over and over again! Don’t do that to me, dammit!"
