Chapter 693: Using Astral control

"What is he doing?"

"You think he’ll be fine?"

Currently, inside a large, spacious room, the likes of Nox, Nyx, Jack, Jared, Serena, Akira, and Wendy were gathered around a king-size bed.

On the bed, Nox was sleeping with a peaceful expression on his face. He had once again activated Astral Control, taking over the body of Kira, who was presently in the capital city.

"He’ll be fine," Jared said. The others hadn’t really seen Nox use this skill before, so they were quite worried.

"He did something similar in the demon realm," he explained. "I think it’s not possible for him to get hurt. Rather, it’s only the person he is possessing that would feel any pain."

When they heard this, they all let out a visible sigh of relief. None of them ever cared for the red-skinned girl. She could die for all they cared, and they wouldn’t mind.

But Nox... he was a different case entirely.

"I’ll stay behind and watch him," Serena suddenly said, sitting at the edge of the bed.

"I can help too," Akira added, moving to sit at the other side of the bed.

A small frown appeared on Wendy’s face, but she didn’t comment—she simply looked away.

Meanwhile, Nyx resisted the urge to roll her eyes.

"There’s no need for this, you know?" she said. "Within these walls, nothing would ever happen to him. Besides, my mom will come watch over him a few minutes from now."

Serena and Akira glanced at each other. No words were shared, but there seemed to be an unspoken war between the two before they settled into place again.

A clear sign that they wouldn’t leave.

Meanwhile, hundreds of miles away in the royal capital, a red-skinned beauty walked through the streets with a calm, detached expression on her face.

On the streets, demons and Flaming Rose members moved about. Most of the demons recognized her as the one who had once led an army to the west.

Seeing her walking alone made those present whisper amongst themselves.

"What happened to the rest?"

"Something definitely happened... I knew she wasn’t capable enough to lead."

"Damn... is the force at the west really that powerful?"

Nox, currently occupying Kira’s body, kept his ears open. He needed to gather as much information as he could while he was here.

It was the main reason he had used Astral Control on Kira.

He realized that the best way to learn the secrets of the demons and Flaming Rose was by impersonating one of them.

As he walked through the capital, he observed through Kira’s eyes. The once-bustling capital was now fully occupied by demons.

They treated it like their own home now—and seemed very comfortable at that.

Some time later, the whispers of the demons faded into the background, and she came to a checkpoint.

The demon stationed before the entrance to the Privileged District looked slightly shocked.

"Where is Number Two? I have a report to make," she said.

The demon hesitated before gesturing for her to follow.

Kira followed, coming to a stop in front of the Silver Family Villa.

"He’s inside, along with Mistress Eve," the demon said, then left.

’Eve?’ Nox’s heart rate accelerated when he heard that name. After all, it had been months since he last saw her.

But he knew an encounter with her was unavoidable.

Taking a deep breath, he walked inside.

Everyone present seemed to know Kira, and aside from a few curious glances and whispers, no one made an attempt to stop her.

Nox soon arrived before a door where he could sense a powerful presence. Without hesitation, he pushed it open, finding himself in a large chamber where several people were already present.

Out of all those present, Nox only recognized Eve—and surprisingly, Hendrix, who was also in the room.

There was a man with a large cloak draped over his shoulders and the number 2 clearly printed on it.

Combined with his red skin, it was easy to tell this was the second-in-command of the Flaming Rose.

And lastly, the one who stole the entire spotlight was a being with inhuman beauty. Nox felt a powerful aura radiating from him and instinctively tried to analyze him—but no level popped up on his screen.

’He’s probably using an artifact.’

Nox narrowed his eyes for a moment.

He couldn’t even feel a system prompt. It was as if this being didn’t exist within the same structure of power as everyone else. No class. No level. Just... raw pressure.

"Kira," Number Two spoke in a deep voice that made Kira’s body subconsciously tremble. "You finally returned. I was starting to worry."

Nox didn’t respond immediately. He glanced at Hendrix, who was watching from the side. Initially, he had planned to lie—that her forces had claimed the western region and defeated the Cromwells.

But with Hendrix here, that was no longer possible. The clone must’ve already informed them of everything.

As if confirming his thoughts, Number Two said, "I heard you lost all your forces. That the humans there were stronger than expected. Tell me—how do you plan to make up for your failure?"

Nox—still inside Kira’s body—kept his expression unreadable.

The pressure in the room was thick. All eyes were on him, waiting for a response.

He lowered his head slightly, adopting a respectful posture.

"...I don’t deny my failure," Nox said in a low voice. "But I believe I can make up for it."

Number Two leaned forward slightly, his blood-red eyes glowing. "Oh?"

Eve raised an eyebrow but said nothing.

"Go on," Number Two said.

Nox straightened slightly. "The western front is lost. But that failure gave me insight. I’ve seen the strength of the enemy—and more importantly, I’ve identified the humans responsible for turning the tide."

"And who is this human?" Noir the Smiling Blight finally spoke, his eyes gleaming with interest.
