Chapter 694: Mimicry Activated!

There was something unsettling about the way Noir spoke, but Nox couldn’t fully wrap his head around it. However, it gave him strange prickles all over his skin.

Still, this was just the least of his worries. Nox was more conflicted about what to say at this moment.

The mysterious demon had just asked for the person responsible for their failure. Technically, he didn’t contribute anything, as the entire force was already destroyed upon his arrival.

’If I was to call my name here, I’m setting myself up as a target... but at the same time there’s no other person I could name.’

Moreover, Nox wasn’t a coward. He wasn’t the type to run or lie just to save his ass, so without hesitation, he said—

"The forces were killed by a joint force between Nox Cromwell and the Crown Prince."

A silence fell in the room, and the expression on Number Two’s face distorted.

"So Hendrix hadn’t been lying when he said he saw the Crown Prince in the western region. So that’s where he went," Number Two muttered.

A few days ago, after taking down the barrier that protected the royal castle, the demon and Flaming Rose forces made the painful discovery that the Crown Prince and a major chunk of the Vermilion soldiers were gone.

This was quite the shocking event, as none of them had even seen so much as a movement. All the demons were questioned, and they all reported nothing unusual.

For a while, Number Two even suspected Eve of helping the humans, considering her past relationship with them.

But he quickly dismissed that thought.

Not only had the necromancer shown her loyalty to the Demon Emperor, she had also proven it on the battlefield when she slew several experts.

"With those two joining forces, it would be quite troublesome," Number Two frowned. "And the fact that almost all portals are snapping shut puts us at a significant disadvantage if we want to clash with them."

Yes, the alliance had learned about the strange phenomenon happening. For some reason, all the portals in the Vermilion Kingdom had mysteriously disappeared, and they had received information of similar things happening in the other five kingdoms.

’I don’t know whoever is doing this... but continue,’ Eve’s eyes flashed. Teleportation magic was very rare, even in a fantasy world like Eos.

It had taken the Demon Emperor decades to build those portals and anchor them to the human realm.

He had already exhausted most of the resources used. Before he could gather all of them again, it would take at least another decade—just to begin the building process.

Teleportation portals were very complex things, especially ones that could travel between continents.

Just like Number Two had said, this was a big disadvantage to the demons, as they no longer had that endless army.

If all the demons in this continent were slaughtered, then the war was over.

Eve crossed her arms as she leaned against the stone pillar. Her expression was unreadable, but deep down, she felt a strange flicker of hope.

"What should we do now?" Number Two asked the pressing question on everyone’s mind. "Should we attack the West then?"

"Then leave the capital open for an attack?" Eve retorted. "It seems you forgot there are still some nobles hiding in the capital."

This silenced Number Two.

It was at that moment Hendrix spoke. "The West is no longer the chaotic region it once used to be. And with the alliance between the prince and that Nox, if we move without a coordinated plan, the same thing would repeat itself all over again."

"That’s something we can’t afford again." Number Two’s eyes turned cold.

The atmosphere turned heavy. Noir didn’t say anything, but the way his eyes lazily tracked Hendrix told everyone he was listening.

Nox observed everything that was being said with open ears so that he would be just as prepared to counter their plans.

And of course, all this while, he was observing Noir, trying to figure out what made him so unsettling. Was it his inhuman beauty? The constant grin? His unblinking gaze?

It was very hard to tell.

Finally, Eve broke the prolonged silence. "I will lead a detachment," she said, attracting all eyes to her. She looked at Noir. "I’ll take half of the army and reclaim the Western region myself."

’Half of the entire army? What is she thinking?’ Nox’s mind began to spin when he heard this, but he didn’t panic and decided to trust Eve.

For her to suggest something like this, she must have a good plan.

Number Two’s eyes narrowed. "We can’t just throw our troops at them. Even with your strength, Eve, the terrain there favors them. The Cromwells know that region. They know where to bait, ambush, and lure you in."

A small smile that didn’t reach her eyes appeared on her face. "That’s where I come in," she replied calmly. "Seems most of you forgot that the West was once my home."

"Right... if I remember correctly, you were his master," Hendrix said. "But you all seem to be underestimating him... too much. He’s become unpredictable."

"Not for me," Eve replied confidently. "I’m his master. I taught him everything he knows. If there’s someone who could defeat him, then it’s me."

"Alright then, it’s settled!" Noir rose from his feet, clapping his hands excitedly. "My little sister will lead half of our army to the West in three days’ time. Meanwhile, I’ll pay a visit to the demon realm and investigate the reason for the portal disappearance. Hopefully, by the time I return, I want to hear good news."

With that, Noir rose to his feet, snapped his fingers, and a portal appeared right before him.

Nox’s eyes widened when he saw this. A skill that could allow him to open portals? He quickly glanced at Eve and saw that she didn’t seem surprised.

"Good thing this one is still active," Noir snorted as he walked through the portal.

But little did he know, this was a fatal oversight—as the next moment, a notification flashed across Nox’s retina.
