Chapter 179: Reigning Darkness

Alexandra was not left to wallow in her self-pity for long as she saw the darkness accumulating in front of her.

[Don’t tell me this is...]

"What nonsense are you spouting?" Arioch asked.

Alexandra clicked her tongue as her thoughts got disturbed. She had put a spell to slowly heal his wound and nothing to reduce his pain. He was shivering as the spell was stitching the gash wound in his abdomen. And still, he couldn’t hold his tongue.

"Shut up and watch. Don’t advocate your stupidity," Alexandra flicked some sand inside his mouth. He started coughing and in turn, his wound hurt more and he started grunting.

Alexandra turned her attention back to the accumulating mist. To her dread, it was Maximus.

Maximus cannot leave his physical form and if he is manifesting into his physical state from nothing, that only means that Inanis has taken full control of his body.

[Good!]

"Haven’t you shown them how terrible you are, Great King?" She asked, hoping to get more of Maximus. Inanis could latch on to Maximus only because of his thoughts of vengeance. And that is where she could touch him.

And just as she expected, Maximus’ attention turned to her and he smirked. Her heart hurt seeing that smirk. That smirk is not the one that makes her annoyed and makes her heart skips at the same time. That smirk was something unfamiliar she has seen on him; something that invoked pain in her heart.

Pure vengeance—that’s what she saw on Maximus’ face now.

She could see the dark mist that was swirling around him getting dispelled a bit. Maybe Inanis has figured out what Maximus expects her to do and tries to take control of his body. But Maximus’ was not taking any of Inanis’ efforts to get control of his body.

Maximus is fighting back at Inanis.

{Now would be the time, Arimelda!}

Alexandra nodded hearing Kefir’s voice. She looked at her back and Rufus is yet to reach the dune she is standing on.

She looked at Maximus.

"I should have destroyed your soul last time, Rose Knight!" he shouted.

Alexandra knew he is shouting for all to hear. But there was no one listening. She already told everyone what he wanted them to hear, anyway. He doesn’t have to repeat it.

"You are nothing, Adonis Lukyan!" Alexandra shouted and ran at him with her sword pointing at him.

He drew out his sword in an attempt to fight her, so she thought. She was happy that he has a will to live, giving up his thoughts of vengeance. But just as she was stepping closer, she saw him retracting his sword leaving his chest open.

[He doesn’t care about his life... he is willing to leave me alone here just for the sake of his vengeance...]

She had no time to wait or to handle the sharp pain in her chest. She saw the right moment and the sharp tip of her trusted Hashomer pierced through his chest.

She could sense the feeling of her sword sliding inside his flesh. Her eyes met his eyes and she saw the pain in his eyes. But the corners of his lips were curling up as if he was pleased. The darkness that was sticking to him, swirling around to look for his weakness, scattered away from him, like rats would escape a sinking ship.

Gritting his teeth to control her shaking hands, she pierced the sword further inside until the tip of the sword left through his back. Letting out a grunt that was mixed with the pain her heart feels, she drew out the sword.

At that time, she saw the heavens opening. And from the heavens, there came a strong gust of wind that swept over the darkness looming over the battlefield. The darkness Inanis that had captured Maximus was driven away by the strong gust of wind.

[So, my plan worked!]

With Maximus’ blood dripping through her sword, she raised her sword.

"Now, there will be peace! The great evil is vanquished!" she shouted, trying hard not to look at Maximus’ body slumping forward. Every fiber of her body wanted to reach out to hold him and prevent him from falling to the ground, but she held her urges back.

In the end, she is doing what he wants to do.

"You killed him?" Arioch asked as he was shocked. He couldn’t believe what he is happening right in front of his eyes.

Maximillian is dead! He is dead in front of his eyes! He forgot about his pain as he couldn’t believe what he is seeing.

<Is she playing everyone? What is her plan?>

Alexandra fisted her hand over her chest not wanting to answer Arioch. She knew what she did... She didn’t want Arioch to speak about it. But her fight is still not over.

She looked at the sky. The darkness was overpowered by the losing its strength. The men who were left alive all stared at her. They saw what she did. And a woman killing her husband right in front of everyone did cause a debate among the men.

Alexandra was not in the mood to care for their opinions. She knows what she did and why she did it. If others judge her for it, it is not her problem. Her eyes were on Inanis.

As she was observing keenly, the thing that she dreaded happened. The darkness started to overpower the wind that was supposed to sweep it away. Slowly the entire place turned darker than before.

"Iorhael!" she shouted for him. Her heart started to pound. There was only one way she had and it seemed like that plan has failed.

[Should I see the destruction of this world?]

She couldn’t bear it. She was about to jump down from the dune when the dark wind picked up speed. Alexandra held her skirt down that was billowing in the strong wind. Her hair stuck to her face making small cuts as the dark wind swept past her. And it was then she saw everything in the path of the heavy wind turning to ashes. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Just like in her vision.

"Iorhael! Kefir!" She shouted for her trusted allies.

But no one answered her. She ran back up and tried to cover up Maximus’ limp body, but before she could reach there, right in front of her eyes, Maximus’ body disintegrated.

"Nooo!!!" she screamed at the top of her lungs. She waved her sharp sword frantically hoping to damage the darkness, but she only heard the sweet chuckle that she was familiar with.

[Was my trust wrong?]

"Calantar!" Alexandra shouted. "Show yourself!"
