Chapter 180: One Card Left

Alexandra fisted her hands to stop them from shaking. And still, they couldn’t stop shaking. Her sword dropped from her hand as she couldn’t find the energy to hold it.

[He’s gone... My husband... He’s...My friends, everyone... They’re... It’s my fault...]

She couldn’t wrap her mind around it. The fact she was the reason for this to happen, because she put her trust in the wrong person once again, made her will to live to dwindle. She wanted to go where everyone else is. She wanted to give up and accept her defeat.

[It’s my fault...]

When she looked deeply into the Darkness’ appearances, she found that the Darkness only used two forms to present itself to anyone—Calantar and Inanis. She figured out that Calantar and Inanis are the two personalities of the Darkness. Calantar is the entity who can love and help in the creation, while Inanis is the other side of Calantar who is jealous and was responsible for all the destruction.

When she saw the future in which the darkness swallows everything, she thought she will make that happen according to her wish. And that was why when Arioch stole the Orb, she was not that stressed. She wanted him to do that.

She had already split Inanis and Calantar inside the Orb before Arioch took the Orb away. The Hashomer is the sword that can split anything, even souls. She didn’t know that until then. But she put her trusty sword for her use.

She appealed to the goodness of Calantar, and in exchange for Calantar’s promise that Calantar would stop Inanis, she made a deal with Calantar for a meeting with her father.

Inanis came into being only after her father started ignoring Calantar after he found love. She thought a good talk with her father would make their relationship better. By making Calantar understand her father, she thought Inanis could be weakened. She thought by solving the issue between her father and Calantar, the universe will return to how peaceful it once was.

She trusted her father. She thought her father would talk to Calantar and help her return to how she once was.

And she made other plans with Inanis. That is why she let Arioch take the Orb with him. She knew he will take the Orb to the Rephelim in an attempt to break the orb and let Inanis out. And she let it happen.

A very little part of Inanis’ darkness is stuck with Maximus and that is getting kindled by the thoughts of vengeance on Maximus. She thought a person cannot survive without their entire soul, and that’s where she was wrong. And that is why she let Inanis take control of Maximus.

When Maximus used his vengeance to stop Inanis take over his body, she saw the darkness in Maximus’ soul merging entirely with Inanis. That part of his soul can never be recovered and plunging her sword through his chest, she successfully separated his corrupted soul from his soul.

And she succeeded. Inanis and the darkness in Maximus’ soul were vanquished from his body using the Hashomer.

She could have stabbed him anywhere in the gut to achieve this goal. But she had to consider Maximus’ will. He showed himself as the Great King every chance he got so that one day he would exterminate him in front of others and prove to others that she was the most powerful one.

She wanted to give him his wish. She hoped he had changed his mind, but he didn’t and that hurt her. But still she went through with her plan.

Because she knew it will turn for the better. Maximus’ darkness will disappppear, Calantar will stop Inanis and leave the earth, everything will be fine and dainty... That’s what she thought.

She put a spell so that he won’t feel any pain, and she made sure she missed his heart. He will bleed in front of others as if he was stabbed in the heart, but in truth, his would was not severe. With a little rest, he will be healed. She thought she can hide Maximus for some time until Marcus stabilizes on the throne, and then she and Maximus could live the best life she wanted forever.

But... Everything turned to shit! Calantar’s mind didn’t change after she met with her father and rather than controlling Inanis, Calantar let Inanis control her and destroyed everything and everyone dear to her heart.

[Father... why did you let this happen?]

Alexandra’s knees trembled and she very much was on the brink of letting go of everything. She wanted to leave this place.

She knelt on the sand that was not even hot anymore. The sun was gone and without the warmth of the sunlight, the temperature has dropped drastically. IN that chilly environment, her thoughts turned negative. She wondered if she should do what she did in her last life, and just end her life.

She closed her eyes. The darkness whooshed past her ears and she heard the giggles and whispers of Calantar mocking her. It was as if Calantar was enjoying her hopeless state. And suddenly that reminded her of Adonis Lukyan’s words.

[No!!! I will have to survive!]

She knew she still has her fight left. She cannot give up. If she will have to pull out her husband and her friends from the dark jaws of Inanis, she will.

She remembered that sweet boy Marcus’ words. He told her that after the darkness, there was light. And everyone was alive and well.

[Yes, there is hope!]

"Give them back to me, Calantar! Give my people back!" She shouted and picked up the sword that still dispelled the darkness around.

The entire place filled with the sweet giggles of Calantar. She seemed to be very amused with everything happening around her. She was the one making it happen after all. Her voice echoed everywhere, giving the impression that she is everywhere.

Holding the Hashomer to her chest, Alexandra stood up. She couldn’t see anything around her as everything was covered with darkness. She closed her eyes to find where Calantar is. If Calantar is not giving her people back, Alexandra was determined to kill Calantar.

But she is forbidden to do that.

The reason she was shown the past, from the beginning of the formation of the universe, was to let her know that light and darkness are both sides of the same coin, and they will have to co-exist together. That’s why she made a plan, but it backfired.

If Calantar is not willing to co-exist, what else can be done?

"What happened, daughter of Aredil?"

Alexandra opened her eyes to the sweet voice of Calantar just in front of her. Wearing a pale green dress, with her snow-white hair fluttering beautifully in the wind, she looked like an embodiment of goodness.

"We had a deal, Calantar. You swallowing my friends was not part of the deal," Alexandra’s blue eyes fixed on Calantar.

She cannot kill Calantar. But she can hurt Calantar. She knows the thing Calantar dreads. She still has a card left on the table. She will get back the people she loves.
