Chapter 43: SysDi 43: Willpower, Intellect and Perseverance 5

When Evan came to, it felt like he was floating on top of the water. He blinked his eyes slowly, his vision dark. He couldn’t see anything in every direction.

He couldn’t move nor could he speak. All he knew was that he is on the water, lying on his back and then... Nothing.

Then, he remembered what had happened a while ago. The heavy steps he took while he walked in the dark corridor. There was the way he forcibly and stubbornly continued even if it was hurting him.

The only thing that made him continue was his Willpower.

He persevered forward even though it hurts.

The forked paths made him use the three things the corridors mentioned they were.

Slowly, his left arm rose up, attempting to reach the ceiling. At having successfully raised his hand, he clenched his fist.

Then, he woke up.

Blinking his eyes as he woke up, Evan gasps a little. He coughed at the sudden intake of air be had to take.

The ground was dusty and he had been laying on it for who knows how long?

Evan sits up slowly, feeling as if his entire body is on fire. There is a soreness in every muscle of his, especially his lower limbs. Thankfully, his knees doesn’t hurt as much, but that’s not the same story as his thighs and his legs.

"I survived that dark corridor huh?" Evan mutters to himself. "I didn’t know I had it in me."

He shifts to get himself as comfortable as he would be on the ground. He has no sense of time at the moment. Iva had been reminding him about how many minutes have been before it disappeared.

Evan’s eyes widened. Right. Iva. The voice was silent.

He closed his eyes for a moment, trying to feel if Iva is still there.

"Iva?" He calls out loud. "Are you there?"

No response. Evan is not feeling anything in his mind at all anymore.

He felt a sudden pit down his stomach at the thought of Iva fully disappearing.

"Iva?" He tried again.

Still no response.

Evan gulps down the worry he felt. He knows that it is just a voice. That it’s supposed to be there because of it is part of the watch and the ability that he had gotten.

Or maybe he is just overreacting? Maybe the reason why Iva didn’t respond yet is because Evan is still weak and recovering.

"Status." Evan says, wanting to see check on something.

A panel pops up to show his information.

He can summon his status panel. That is a good sign.

His ability are listed too, including his newly acquired Cure.

The worry he had thought, was that his hit points is very low. Only 1 hit point? Is that why he had passed out?

A sudden chill of creeping dread came over him. Why does it feel like if he had went down zero hit points that would have meant he died?

He took a deep breath. There’s no use thinking about that. He is here and he survived. He managed to survive this current hardest ordeal he ever had the non-pleasure to experience. There will be more in the future, but he hoped it’s not too soon.

Evan closed the status panel. Pushing the thought of Iva and the challenge he had just came from for the meantime, he placed hand on his own chest. Now’s the time to see how good his Cure ability is.

"Cure."

A feeling of warmth started coursing through Evan’s veins that he couldn’t help but close his eyes. He felt relieved and relief while a faint green glow can be seen from behind Evan’s eyelids.

Once the feeling disappeared, Evan slowly opens his eyes.

His body still felt sore and he is still tired. But it was less than before. The aching part of his thighs and legs were less than what he was enduring the moment he woke up.

It didn’t disappear, but at least, it’s tolerable enough that he could probably stand on his own, using the wall as support.

Evan summoned his status again. His eyes narrowed when he saw that it healed him up to half. So, even with the fatigue, at least his healing has a really good efficacy.

Standing slowly, he looked around him. Before he had passed out, he remembered that he was in the long, torch lighted corridor with two ways that can be seen in a distance.

Now, he is at the end of that straight path. He woke up and he is in front of the two paths. Maybe he walked all the way here just to be sure before he passed right out?

There are a lot of things he can speculate. For now, what he needs to do is to find a way to get back to the first branching paths. He’s way too tired but there is no way he is returning back through the dark corridor.

Evan looked at the paths before him. A left and a right. There is a smooth stone in front of him once again. The words flowed through him as if he had known it for ages. But it is obviously not Himea, not his own mother tongue but something Iva spoke and understood that he also now do too.

Putting hand up to trace the words, he began to read as he went.

"Left and right, no end in sight,

First one’s needs are strength and might.

Less than two may strike you down,

Both done in thirty to get you crowned."

Evan traced the words even more, re-reading the words to himself two times before he pulls back.

He just realized that the smooth stones that he could read and understand were clues on what each corridors contained.

It made him remember about the other poem that he had read back at the forked paths. The one where there was green or no sight were pretty obvious. But the danger levels couldn’t be known until he is inside the paths.

Knowing this realization, he tired to think of what the poem could mean. The last part could be self-explanatory. He was thinking of finishing both the corridors anyway, so he didn’t have to bother to much about that.

Evan isn’t sure which one is the first one, but he’s assuming that would be the left path. In which case, strength and might is what he needs, it looks like. That’s not something he has at the moment.

He stared at both of the corridors before he deciding that he should probably fare better if be takes the right one.

Afraid of getting another penalty against his hit points, he didn’t use his Simulation Zone for now. He just couldn’t take any chances at the moment.

He took a deep breath before slowly making his way through. The path is well-lighted, torches lined up the walls just like it did before. They don’t have way too much distance between too. It was just right.

He looked around him, seeing that nothing much is happening. Maybe nothing is on here?

Evan kept his guard up, looking around the room for anything that started to move.

Nothing.

That’s weird.

Just when he was about to put his right foot down, he paused. There is a sudden chill that came down his back. He didn’t know what it was, but there was something.

Before he can tell what it was, a panel showed up in front of him.

Ping!

----- ----- -----

Congratulations!

You have acquired a Passive Ability!

Ability: Danger Sense

- Description: Bad omens, murderous intent or general bad feeling, it’ll feel like a chill down your spine. Will remind you to be cautious!

- Requirements: [Not applicable]

- Will remind user using a panel whenever danger is near.

----- ----- -----

Right after reading what the description is, Evan shook his head in slight amusement.

"Ah so now I have something like this. Why didn’t I get this sooner?" He asked.

Zoom!

----- ----- -----

Passive Ability Danger Sense activated!

----- ----- -----

Warning!

Sensing a trap in front of user.

----- ----- -----

Evan narrowed his eyes at that. If that’s the only warning he’ll get, it’s not very useful.

Then again, he knows that his abilities do level up with him using use. He heard that passive things means Evan didn’t even need to do anything for it to level up. That is a good thing.

He sidestepped and the warning of his danger sense ability finally disappeared. He continued walking forwards, looking at the ground and around to make sure that he wouldn’t miss anything.

Now that he knows there are traps, there is no way he would get caught in one.

Until he felt his feet hit a wire and his danger sense warning panel goes up again.

Oh no.
