Talentless Extra Of The Legendary Hero Academy-Chapter 83: Katty III
Chapter 83: Katty III
Lito took a deep breath, and the cold rushed into her nose, bitter and sharp. She took a step back, and her subordinates followed her.
Maybe they could still leave while they had the time. Surely she hadn’t seen them. Yes, that’s right. They would just leave right there and then...!!
Rinex Kareth looked up, her eyes like liquid darkness, her voice empty like the cold. "You guys."
Lito stiffened. Every inch of her body screamed at her to run, but she seemed stuck. All of them froze as if their limbs were now ice blocks.
As if by not moving, they could stop her from seeing them.
Her wolves circled around them, restless as if they were reflecting her inner mood.
She frowned slightly. "Are you guys part of those we are to kill?"
Alarm ran through Lito. So did anger. Someone somewhere had betrayed them. How else would Kareth be there? "We? We’re just passing through, caught up in whatever this is!"
She said hurriedly.
Rinex’s frown deepened. "I can smell blood on you, though, the scent that those who have killed and killed usually have. But that’s really none of my business."
"Then will you...?"
"No. My older brother told me to guard this place, and that’s what I will do. You can stay alive if you don’t try to pass. I have no ill intentions against you. Unless you try to fight me. I never turn down a fight."
Lito stiffened.
They shouldn’t try to pass.
But then the other Kareth would finally catch up and kill them anyway.
Lito smiled, a rough grimace. "Surely you can just let us pass. It’s not like your brother has to know anything about it. We can just be gone before you even know..."
"I killed my mother," Rinex said suddenly.
Lito blinked. "What?"
Rinex shrugged. "During childbirth, my mother died. My father didn’t hate me for it, but he blamed himself for being powerless. It drove him so much that most of our recent power and influence as a family was singlehandedly created by him.
"My brother didn’t hate me either. He treated me well, and he loved me. He’s one of the reasons I’m still in the Empire. I would love to tour the Broken Continent, but I must protect him. He’s not as strong as me, you know."
Lito was feeling something bad in her stomach the more she spoke.
Rinex shook her head sadly and raised the shield she was holding. "My father went missing some years ago, and now he’s been found—dead, but at least he’s back home. He was holding this shield when he was found. I really miss him." freewebnoveℓ.com
Lito swallowed. "Why are you telling us all of this?"
She looked at them curiously. "During my isolation training, I only had my wolves to speak with. There’s no difference between you and them."
Lito hissed. "But you said you won’t kill us!"
"I won’t... if you don’t try to kill me first. But I know you will attack, won’t you?"
Lito’s eyes darkened, and a feeling of understanding passed between her and her subordinates. They couldn’t go back or forward. The only thing left for them was to fight.
But how can they fight something that’s much more powerful than them? It’s not the first time they’ve done it, but not at the level of Rinex Kareth.
At the end, though, their lives were on the line, and they must do what they must do.
Lito shook out her hand. Without warning, Katty sunk into the ground, disappearing into a portal that appeared beneath her. She appeared beside Rinex Kareth and flung herself at her without restraint.
Hands made of ice formed around Rinex, and without her even moving from her place, the hand caught Katty on the throat and held her suspended upright.
Rinex sighed. "See? I told you you would attack me. I can read it on your faces."
Lito gritted her teeth. Things had gone too horribly for them to turn back now. They would either fight or die. "I hate bitches like you, old woman."
Rinex smiled.
The ice hand holding Katty squeezed so hard her eyes popped out, and the veins on her head erupted. A sharp crack followed as her neck was snapped.
Her lifeless body dropped to the ground with a light thud.
Lito raised her hand. "Now!"
Portals popped into existence around Rinex, isolating her from the world and her wolves. Only that one wolf remained with her.
But even then, the rest of the wolves just continued to watch them with disinterest. Lito didn’t know if Rinex was just that confident or her wolves were just for show.
She raised her brows. "What are you planning now?"
From one of the portals surrounding her, a silver arc leapt out with a rush of wind. A sword slash.
The silver light moved like a living thing and twisted in midair, warping around her side and cutting into her robe as if it were made of paper, but it failed to cut into her skin.
Outside, the sword woman was raising her sword again.
The thing about the portals that surrounded Rinex was that attacks from the inside wouldn’t reach them, as they would be teleported to another place, but attacks from them would reach her.
They’d done the same strategy to kill those far more powerful than them.
But this time, they might have bitten off more than they could chew.
"That attack must have done something to her, right?" the man said, his voice hopeful.
But reality was cruel.
The temperature, which was already down, went even further down. The ground groaned as if it were crying out from the coldness that gripped it.
"What the... impossible!" Lito shouted.
As she watched, her portals froze over and shattered.
Did... Rinex just freeze a technique of that level?
Sometimes one might know with absolute certainty about something, but there would still be a tiny sliver of hope.
Right then—
Lito lost all hope, and her face turned blank.
Rinex frowned. "Now I have to get a new robe. Which of you did it? The sword woman!"
Lito turned, her hand already glowing.
But she wasn’t fast enough.
None of them were.
A rush of ice jutted out of the ground. Ice spears that clung together rose up and punched into her head as if it were a watermelon.
Her blood froze like flakes in the air.
And when she fell, she was still holding her sword.
