Chapter 38: Tale of the two dark moon...

Narration POV

100,000 years ago – Mythical Realm.

Long ago, when all the mythical creatures co-existed together, there was nothing like the mate bond. When werewolves get to the age of their lycanthropy and get their wolves, they’re free to marry whomever they choose to or even if they are so fixed on getting married to someone compatible with them, they could go and get a reading of their fates at the hand of Gaia – the greatest witch ever born.

Nine out of ten, Gaia paired them with the perfect partner and having the perfect partner always brought prosperity to all the packs and dens of mythical creatures.

Although these mythical creatures co-existed together, marriage was a taboo amongst themselves. A werewolf cannot marry any other mythical creature outside his species. Neither could witches nor elves, nor fairies or dragons for they believed an intermarriage would weaken their bloodlines and no one wanted to give birth to strange children. freeweɓnovel.cøm

For years, even when different species of mythical creatures suddenly developed mild feelings for another species, they knew they would never end up together, so those feelings were killed off even before they started.

But everything changed when one day it was discovered that Dimitra, Gaia’s daughter and only child was pregnant for Damien, the eldest son of the Alpha of the first moon pack and worst still, the young lovers were determined to stay in love.

Gaia sat there quietly, staring into nothing. Beside her was her daughter and only child Dimitra who was quietly sobbing.

Seating across them was Alpha Kiba and his Luna Carmen and with them was their son, Damien. He too had his gaze lowered to the ground and played nervously with his fingers.

They were in the presence of the Lycan King Priam, leader of all Mythical creatures. For nearly an hour, both families were mute and Priam was already running out of patience.

"Well," he cleared his throat "Are we going to sit like this all day and say nothing?" he asked.

Alpha Kiba sighed as he raised his gaze to the king, trying to look for the right words to express how he felt. Damien was his first child and the future Alpha of the pack, how could he have brought disgrace to the family in this way?

"Your majesty," Kiba finally said "You know when a man gets to a particular age, all the women look beautiful and his desires are wild... I clearly told Gaia that we would take responsibility and have the girl..." he trailed off, swallowing hard as his gaze met with Gaia’s cold one.

"If you had trained your son and taught him manners, he would know not to play with little girls. She’s just a child, Kiba... and he took advantage of that," Gaia yelled, her chest heaving up and down as she stared at him.

"Let’s forget about home training now, Gaia," Kiba sighed "We have to look for a way to settle this issue. Every minute we waste, the child grows,".

"I would not allow my daughter to be subjected to that hideous method. What if something happens to her, Kiba? Would you bear responsibility? The baby in her womb is no longer a mass of blood and water... it has now taken a form. So, we cannot go ahead with that process,".

"Don’t be dense, Gaia," Carmen spoke up for the first time "Everyone knows werewolf midwives are pros when it comes to all manner of birthing even the most complicated of them all. I’ve asked them and they said it’s possible and the girl will be saved too,".

Tears gathered in Gaia’s eyes as she stared at Carmen "I can’t believe you would say this... you’re a mother too, Carmen. You know how painful and difficult childbearing is... she’s only 16. It’ll be too much pain for her and the risk is higher because she’s yet to reach child-bearing age,".

"So, what do you propose we do?" Kiba hissed sighing in frustration "We cannot allow that child to be birthed. We don’t even know what monster would come from this copulation,".

"And I have said that as soon as the child is born, I would kill it myself," Gaia shouted "Is it too much for you all? I would kill it... I have the powers to do so and I would make sure whatever the monster is... it doesn’t cause some trouble. Please, your majesty..." Gaia rose from where she was sitting and knelt in front of the king "Spare my child... I’ll take care of her... we’re not asking for anything...please...".

Priam sighed as he stared at the crying woman and his heart twisted with pity. Ever since she lost her husband to humans, she has been extra protective of her child, so he wasn’t surprised. His gaze strayed to Alpha Kiba and his family... if he should rule in Gaia’s favour... they could report him to the council of elders and have him deposed for Kiba’s family, held the highest authority and had connections everywhere.

They were practically Lycan makers...

He massaged his temple, feeling an incoming headache. Turning to Damien, Kiba’s son, he motioned for him to come.

"What were you thinking when you mated with her, Damien? Didn’t you know the repercussions?"

"I did, Your Majesty," Damien murmured "But I love her," he raised his gaze now and stared at Priam "From the first day I set my eyes on Dimitra, I’ve always loved her and it was as if she was fated to me by the moon goddess herself. I want to be with her, your majesty...".

"Are you mad!" Carmen jerked to her feet as she marched to her son and slapped him across his cheek "You’re the firstborn and the future Alpha... you need a Luna to help carry the family blood and not..." she paused as her gaze strayed back to Gaia and her daughter "Some witch,".

"It doesn’t change anything, mother," Damien rose to his feet, towering over his mom easily "We don’t know what would happen if she carries the baby to term. It would just be a child having both my gene and hers and we know witches are the second most powerful creatures in our world. She won’t...".

Thwack! Carmen landed him another slap.

"I see you’ve been bewitched but if that is their plan, then it is never going to work. You won’t marry that witch and that’s final," she said and marched back to her seat.
