There was something about Jared that commanded respect.

I could see it in the eyes of the Alphas who parted for him to get to Xavier. I could also see the warm glint in Xavier’s eyes as he stretched forth his hands towards him. I didn’t know if it was the scar on his face or the powerful aura that hung over all over him like a scent.

He hurried towards Xavier and the duo clasped each other in a manly hug.

"Alpha, I can’t believe this is you. How long has it been? One, two years?"

"Three," Xavier chuckled slapping him heartily on his back "I thought you weren’t going to come. How are you doing? How is the pack?"

"I’m very well, Alpha," Jared said "However, I am not the main event here. You should tell us how you’re fairing and we’re grateful to the moon goddess for keeping you until now. Everyone thought you were dead and your Beta was hiding it,".

His eyes traced to where Beta Lucius was sitting beside Xavier. His brows were knitted in concentration as he continued to scroll through his phone, ignoring Jared.

"The King is also here," Xavier nudged him towards where Noah was sitting wearing a calm and almost impenetrable look on his face.

"Oh, my moon!" Jared exclaimed and immediately shot to his feet then rushed to Noah and bowed to his waist before him.

It was difficult to think this was the man who had spoken about me and Xavier cruelly and had also hit Belinda this morning. There were no traces of harshness in him and the scar if not for anything made him look kind and maybe vulnerable.

"Don’t be dramatic," Noah said coldly "How are you doing, Jared?"

"Never been better, Your Majesty. If I had known you were still here, I would have extended an invitation for you to come visit us. Perhaps, if you still have time and...".

"No!" Noah said coldly returning to pick up his spoon.

All the Alphas sent him a sympathetic glance as he stood there for a while as if he was lost before returning to his seat. That was so unlike Noah, he had greeted all the other Alphas warmly. Why was he biased towards Jared?

I made a mental note to ask him later.

"And this my Luna," Xavier brought him towards me "Selene. Selene... this is Alpha Jared from Blue Moon Pack,".

"It’s a pleasure, Luna," he bowed and took my hands pressing warm kisses at the back. "You’re as beautiful as they say,".

"It’s a pleasure, Alpha Jared," I gave him a cool reserved smile before walking up to the space by Xavier to sit with him. The rest of the Alphas took their positions.

The door opened and it was the kitchen staff wheeling in a lot of food. The aroma seized the air, making everyone salivate even before tasting the food.

"There’s so much food," Vina squealed with joy pointing excitedly at the food cart.

That was when everyone noticed that two little girls were sitting in between me and Xavier. I had wanted to take the girls back to their rooms but pleaded with their father to let them stay and as usual, he didn’t say No to the girls.

The Alphas fixed their gazes at the girls, I could see the confusion on their faces. It felt like they wanted to ask questions but no one was brave enough to do so.

"Anyways, I’m so happy that everyone is here together, finally..." Xavier broke the silence "Today, we won’t talk about work or business exception to one announcement I’d like to make. Let’s just make merry and enjoy ourselves,".

They clapped their hands gleefully and immediately we dug into the food. As we ate, I had my gaze on Alpha Jared. I was trying to imagine what he wanted so badly from Xavier. What was he talking about with Belinda earlier today?

"Luna, you must be fascinated with my scar?" Jared laughed as he ran his hand on it.

"Shit!" I murmured tearing my gaze from him. I was so lost in thoughts that I didn’t remember to stop looking at him.

"Not really," I chuckled politely picking up my glass of wine "Where did you get the scar from?" I asked setting the glass and staring at him.

"My father," he said flippantly as he tore a piece of chicken from the platter in front of him "As punishment though. I was a stubborn child growing up,".

"Is your dad a monster or something?" Maeve asked. Her voice was filled with unbelief.

"Maeve!" I nudged at her "You can’t ask that kind of question," I said under my breath.

"But you can?" she stared back at me.

I gritted my teeth in annoyance and looked at Xavier. If he didn’t talk to Maeve soon, she’d be feeling my hands.

"I’m sorry, Alpha Jared, ignore what she said,". I gave him another polite smile.

"I don’t mind," he shrugged "I know children are so curious and she’s such a beautiful child. What’s your name dear? Are you twin?"

"You didn’t answer my question first," Maeve folded her hands staring at him "If you answer me first, then I would answer yours,".

"Okay, that’s it. Come with me this instance!" I rose to my feet and reached for the girls, pulling them up with me.

"I’ll just drop them off with their nannies," I explained and left the room with them towing behind me.

As soon as I got to the playpen, I opened the door and ushered them in. "I just spoke to your nannies, they’ll be here anytime soon," I explained to them.

"We’re too big to have nannies, Mom," Vina whined "I want to go back and enjoy the party. Since it’s Maeve that caused the trouble, she should be asked to stay back,".

"It’s a grown-ups meeting, Vina," I said gently "Children are not supposed to be there,".

"Please Mom," she pleaded "I’ll stay quiet, I promise,".

"I’m sorry honey but you should sit this one out. Okay? As soon as we’re done, we’ll go into town and get some treats... anything you want at all,".

Maeve just sat on a chair, swinging her legs as she regarded me and Vina. On cue, the door opened and their nannies entered.

"Please watch them, okay? I’ll take them off your hands when we’re done with the meeting,".

"Of course, Luna," they said and went to the girls.

Vina was already sobbing at this time. I knew if I gave her attention, she would throw a tantrum. So, I ignored her and walked out of the room. As I passed by the corridor to go back to the dining hall, I saw Jared coming towards me.

"Luna," he said with a smile "Could you point me the toilet... I’d like to take a leak," he said.

"The guest toilet is not this way," I said coldly "It’s the door next to the dining room. You couldn’t have missed it,".

"Oh!" he chuckled sucking off the tip of his fingers in the process "I can’t decide if it’s the wine or the food that’s making me forget many things. Thank you," he said and turned to leave when suddenly he turned back to face me again.

"I hope you don’t mind me asking, Luna... but who were those kids? They’re a split image of Alpha Xavier,".

"Are you kids missing?" I replied giving him a blank stare.

"C’mon, Luna," he scoffed "Don’t be harsh, okay? I’m just curious. We’ve heard a lot about you and the Alpha for over three years now - one time, we heard that you separated or something. So, it’s not out of place for me to be curious,".

"I understand," I shrugged "Then you should direct all your questions to Xavier and not me. I’m sure they’ll be looking for us at the dining room. Excuse me,".

As I made to pass, he suddenly grabbed my arm and tugged me towards him.

"C’mon Luna," his eyes flashed dangerously as he stared up and down the corridor then pinned me to the wall "I just want to know. Is there any harm?"

Instead of fear, anger burned through me as I stared at him. I could feel myself getting pissed.

"Jared!" I said with a steely tone "Let me go this instance and I mean it,".

"Why?" he jeered "You’re going to scream and accuse me of trying to be forceful on you?"

"You’re not worth my breath," I said coldly. "Now, I’m going to count 1 to 3, if yu don’t take your filthy hands on me, I’ll make sure you regret...".

"Fine!" he chuckled and left me, taking a few steps away from me "My bad and I apologize. I hope you don’t see me in a different light?"

I pushed past him, ignoring him walking to the dining room. When I entered, I noticed Lucius’s gaze on me. He seemed to have read how agitated I was and he nodded then rose to his feet and started in the direction I just left.

A few minutes later, Jared returned and took his position. I saw his eyes flick to me but I made up my mind that I wouldn’t allow any eye contact.
