Tangled Hearts - The Alpha's Baby Mama-Chapter 49: I don’t think it’s potent anymore...
Chapter 49: I don’t think it’s potent anymore...
Selene POV
"What are you talking about?" the man asked furrowing his eyebrows in the darkness.
"It’s a lot to explain but I was with the children – that’s Alpha Xavier’s children the other day and they gave up a weird energy. You know that feeling you get when you meet someone who just had their wolves... that was how I felt,".
"What are you talking about?" the man scoffed "What are they, 2? 3? They’re kids and they won’t get their wolves until another 16 to 17 years. So, it cannot be possible,".
"I tell you dear, those children do not act like babies either. One of them was telling me about how she plans to join the Alpha Academy. It’s a whole lot I know but if we could just look into things more. There’s something off going on that I can’t understand yet plus Xavier and Selene..." Belinda trailed off.
"What about Xavier and Selene?" the man looking at her curiously.
"The curse... I don’t think it’s potent anymore. Xavier looks at Selene as if he would do me even much better. Do you know the funniest of everything, Selene has accepted to be Noah’s wife... he gave her an engagement ring but she’s still sleeping with Xavier. I have no idea what’s going on with them. Honestly,".
"Strange indeed!" the man shrugged "But that’s none of our business. It’s a good thing that she’ll be leaving the pack soon, it’ll give us all the leverage we want. Don’t you think?"
"Yeah, maybe," Belinda shrugged.
I had been so invested in their conversation that I didn’t know that the boulder I was leaning against had broken into two because of my weight. It suddenly gave way, crashing into suddenly and sending me to the ground.
Unknowingly, a surprise gasp escaped my lips.
"Shit!" I murmured under my breath as the conversation between the two paused and the light swept towards the direction of the noise.
"Who’s there?" the man’s voice rang steely as he kept pointing the light.
Somehow, my fall launched me into a pile of leaves that I was currently buried in. I could feel something crawling on my skin and I wanted to swat it but I had to lay still.
I heard hurried footsteps come to the exact position I was in moments ago and stood there, pointing the light. From where I was buried inside the leaves, my eyes memorized the features of the ma
If there was nothing, I would recognize him with, at least his scar would always stand out. Why was he invested in me and Xavier and the girls? What did they want to do with Xavier that my presence had stopped?
Even though no alarming information was shared, I was still curious as to who that man was and what business he truly had with Belinda.
"Are you sure you checked your flanks before coming here?" the man asked Belinda.
"Of course, I did. This isn’t the first time we’re meeting like this. I always make sure no one is following me,".
"Shit!" the man growled "We need to find the person...whoever it is could be a spy and we cannot have our covers blown. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
"It could be an animal too," Belinda said... she seemed to be much calmer than the man "This forest has a lot of them. Besides, it’s the new moon this night... so...".
"There was a wolve here, Belinda," the man screamed "I’m sure of what I’m saying. Fuck!" he growled making frustrated noise "You know what, moving forward, we’ll have to change our location. Meanwhile, go back inside and put your ears peeled on the ground for any strange information,".
"You’re overreacting as usual," Belinda sighed "There’s nothing in our conversation that sounded incriminating. I’m sure of that. We only talked about Xavier and Selene which is a normal discussion around here,".
"You don’t understand, do you?" the man gritted his teeth "I am an Alpha and one of the members of the Regional Council, what will I be doing with someone like you? Everyone knows that you were Xavier’s mistress and a commoner. It will sound suspicious,".
Silent ensued for a minute and I almost thought they’d left until Belinda’s voice came on... it sounded so painful.
"You didn’t have to be so condescending, Alpha. Anyway, let’s call it a night,".
"Belinda!" the Alpha sighed and tried to reach for her but she side-stepped him and continued in the direction of the pack house.
I heard another episode of sighing and hissing and then silence. After waiting for a while, I tried to stand when Bea’s voice came clearly.
"Don’t move... he’s still here," she said.
"What?" I rolled my eyes "How do you even know that? Belinda already left and you were here yourself when they bade each other goodnight and parted ways,".
"They are still out there," she said silently "They’re trying to see if they can catch the culprit. Just stay until I tell you to stand,".
Sighing, I laid back down and decided to wait. After what seemed to be an eternity, Belinda broke the silence.
"I told you, there’s no one here. See, it’s almost daybreak, I best start heading back to the pack house. It’ll be awkward to explain where I’m coming from when it’s daylight,".
"Okay," the man said gruffly "I’ll text you the location for our meetup next time. See you,".

I closed my eyes again, trying to catch a quick nap as we waited for the cook to serve us breakfast. The girls were fuzzing over something while Xavier was patiently answering them. Noah, Lucius and Theo all seemed absorbed with their phones... while I wanted to sleep.
After I left the forest and came back home, I had barely dozed off when the door opened and Xavier bounced in saying we were going to have a breakfast meeting today with all the Alphas of the region and he wanted me to be there.
All my attempts to get out of it proved abortive. Even when I wanted to use not having a proper dress, he told me he would prepare one for me and he did. Now seated on the table with just us first... waiting for the rest to arrive, my body protested weakly. I needed to rest.
"Maeve, Vina..." Lucius suddenly called out to the girls and pointed his phone in their direction "Would you like this as a birthday present? I heard it’s the trend these days,".
"Not interested," Maeve shook her head "I would prefer something more realistic. I’m not a baby anymore, I don’t want toys,".
"You are a baby, Maeve Thorne. You’ll be Four years old in a few days," Xavier sighed and turned to me "Are they always this handful?"
"What!" I gave him an apologetic smile and tried to force my eyes open "What did you say?"
"Are you alright?" he narrowed his eyes at me "Why are you feeling so sleepy... it’s not even 10 yet,".
"I was up all night," I explained hiding a yawn at the back of my hand "I couldn’t bring myself to sleep somehow until this morning,".
"The sleepless nights have returned?" Noah asked me from across the table.
The question was so sudden that it took me by surprise too. But I recovered quickly and nodded my head.
"Like, I tried everything in the books but I was still wide awake,".
"You could have come to me," he sighed "I still have those herbal potions. I’ll bring them to your room later," he said.
"Okay, thanks a lot dear," I beamed a smile at him.
When I took my gaze off him, I noticed Xavier had an irritated look and an awkward silence hung in the place. Finally, they wheeled out the breakfast cart. As we waited to be served...
Xavier’s gaze met mine and he tried to mind-link me but I blocked him off. I wasn’t in the mood to talk to him. The door to the dining room suddenly swung open as tall, handsome men wearing colours that represent their packs filed in.
They all had pleasant smiles on their faces and their gazes were on Xavier but somehow, someone noticed Noah’s presence first and they all rushed to him, and bowed in obeisance kissing his ring.
"We didn’t think you’d still be here?" one of them said.
"Yeah," another one agreed "It’s so nice to see you more than once in a year, your majesty,".
Then they proceeded to greet Xavier. They were shaking hands, giving half-hugs and throwing jokes around. They all looked like they were brothers.
"Where’s Jared?" Xavier asked looking at the door "Why isn’t he here?"
"He came with us," one of them explained "But he excused himself to take a call that came in. He would join us any moment from now,".
"Okay," Xavier nodded and turned to me, a pleasant smile on his face. "I know a lot of you may not have met my Luna but this is Selene, my wife and the Luna of this pack,".
I came forward and gave them a polite bow to all of them. "It’s so nice to meet you all, after so many years,".
"The pleasure is ours, Luna," someone came forward and grabbed my hand, looking into my eyes. He had a charming smile. "My name is Alpha Mason of Firelit Pack,".
"Nice meeting you, Alpha,". I smiled broadly.
In the next few seconds, they went around introducing themselves. Just when the last person finished his name, the dining room door swung open again and everyone turned to look at the new intruder.
"I’m sorry, I came in late. Did I miss anything?" the man asked, smiling broadly as the scar across his face glistened menacingly.
"Ah, Jared!" Xavier beckoned him closer "I was just talking about you,".
