The Almighty Dragon Rider Returns-Chapter 30: Catch,Starweaver
Seeing the three dragons flying towards them send fear to the body of the Iron Talons. Without their Skreel and the riders they are no match for the dragons
The Iron Talons eyes shifted from Nymeria and Reynold to the three dragons, their hands frozen on their poisonous blade.
ROAAAR! ROAAAR! ROAAAR!
The mouths of the three dragons split open.
The black dragon was the first to opened his maws, and immediately a fast rushing stream of the traditional type of orange flame burn up the left side of the Iron Talons before they could even scream. In the same heartbeat, the dark red dragon released a plume of pale heated ice-fire that was like a paradoxical element that turned the Iron Talons soldiers into a breakable frozen statues before shattering them with the complete force of the blast.
But the brown dragon was the one that is most brutal. He is a Marrow-Born breed type of dragon. He opened his mouth and immediately breathe out a swirling cloud of superheated mineral dust, it was was more like a sandstorm from hell. The mineral dust alone finished the Iron Talons that it even stripped their armor from the remaining ones bodies and melting their metal armour and their skin in seconds.
Large amount of the Iron Talons collapsed to the ground as the fires from the dragons were burning their skin and every part if their body, making them screamed in terror.
"To your right now! Move, Reynold!" Nymeria’s voice sounded snapping Reynold out of his his shock. He was still shock that the dragons from his dream were in this academy.
Dammit! Why the hell did he not see them when they went to the dragon stable?
Now was not the time to think. Reynold shift the thought to the back of his mind as he shifted to his right quickly.
Just then in the sky, a loud noise of group of Skreels that looks like raptor and their riders flew into the area and was heading straight to face off with the three dragons.
The sky turned into a very chaos scenes between the three dragons and the Skreel.
Seeing their Skreel arrived, the remaining Iron Talons on on the ground charged towards Nymeria and Reynold. Their faces were full with furry.
The command was for the Reynold Starweaver to be brought back alive but seeing their men dead, they don’t mind slicing their blade through the Reynold boy’s neck.
"Reynold, watch your right!" Nymeria yelled out.
Seven Iron Talons, realizing they need to put an end to all this, turned their collective rage back on Reynold, afterall, he was the one tbey came for. They charged with their poisonous swords as they raised it high.
Reynold did not have time to continue thinking about the three dragons. He reacted out of pure instinct and he swung the heavy, curved blade he had been holding. The sword that had felt a little heavy a moments ago was now feeling very little in his hand now. He made a counter move that looks he was about to let out a heavy blow with a forceful sound that rattled his teeth, then he chagrin into the Iron Talons. He slammed the handle of his sword into one of the Iron Talons throat and he followed it up with a spinning slash that opened the chest of another Iron Talons.
Beside him, Nymeria was not looking much pale anyway and she was not using big spells that you drain her anymore, instead she was being careful to to draw too much from the source. As a Talon charge and lunged at her, she caught his blade with a tiny field of frozen air and twisting her hand so hard that the steel snapped like a dry stem of a tree. With a very quick follow up push of her palm, she sent the broken blade flying backward and sending them in the man’s face.
"Behind you!" she yelled at Reynold.
As Nymeria yelled, Reynold quickly turned behind him and he he lower his body quickly, and the edge of the blade of the Iron Talons whistled inches above his head.
He rolled across the cracked stone of the courtyard, his fingers tight on the sword’s handle. As he stood up, he saw another Talon preparing to bring his sword down on him.
Nymeria flicked her wrist and a blast of pure wind force slammed into the soldier’s chest, sending him ten feet back.
"Now, hit them!" she urged.
Reynold moved forward. The sword in his hand swing up as he raise it up. He moved through the remaining soldiers just like his father had taught him in the past that he did not now he still had it in him, his movement was like it was strengthened and improved by the three dragons fighting in the sky. One Talon tried to run, but Reynold threw the sword like it was a spear and the heavy blade spun perfectly through the air, the venom-tipped point blade buried itself in the soldier’s shoulder. The man fell to the ground instantly, his muscles locking up in total paralysis or more like he lost the ability to move.
Meanwhile, across the academy main big field was now turned into a blood fighting scene.
The dragon riders were grounded, using their mounts as a heavy shields, while the magic users all stood in a circle. They have created a massive shinning dome that did not just block the arrows of the Iron Talons but also acted like a giant lens and focusing their power.
In the middle of it was Professor Valerius standing. His robe shirt was even flying around him by a magical wind. He slammed the magic staff he conjured into the torn-up turf, and the very ground seemed to shake very well.
"Khoas vraal redige!" he yelled and a massive earthquake ripped through the Aetherclaw ranks. The ground turned to something like liquid under them, swallowing their legs. As they struggled, Valerius pointed his hand at the black clouds above. A jagged bolt of white lightning shot down and hit his staff, and exploded outward in a plenty of electricity.
Dozens of Iron Talons and Skreel were turned to ash in a single flash of light.
Seeing their army being chewed up on the ground and their Skreels torn apart in the sky, a lead Aetherclaw officer raised a bloody flag.
"RETREAT! GET TO THE RIFTS! FALL BACK!"
Also, back in the courtyard, the fight between Nymeria, Reynold and the Iron Talons were still on going. The remaining Iron Talons were scrambling toward the walls and also trying to get away from the three sudden shadows circling overhead.
Nymeria was tall, her braids were flying backwards and her hands was glowing with a soft dying light. She focused on a group of three fleeing soldiers and shoved the air toward them. A shockwave sent them falling like dolls across the grass.
Reynold was standing several yards away, his hands was empty after he throw his blade in an Iron Talon. One remaining Talon saw that Reynold was not holding the sword and he turned back as he charged towards Reynold, his face full of smirk.
"Reynold, catch!" Nymeria shouted.
She did not run to him to give him the blade, nstead, she reached out her hand toward the sword stuck in the fallen soldier’s shoulder. With a fast-paced pulling motion, she yanked the weapon free with her magic and send it towards Reynold. The sword did not fall to the ground but it zipped through the air, spinning toward Reynold.
It looked exactly like the old stories of the Witcher—the blade flying straight back to its master.
Reynold caught the handle mid-air, turn on his heel, and pointed the tip directly at the charging soldier’s throat. The Talon skidded to a stop, looking from the poisoned steel to the cold look in Reynold’s eyes.
The soldier dropped his weapon, turned, and ran for the woods.
Reynold let out a long shaky breath, letting the sword hang at his side. His muscles felt like they were on fire. The sudden silence in the yard was almost louder than the battle. He looked at Nymeria, who was leaning against a stone pillar, her face pale as a ghost.
"We survive it," she muttered, her voice trembling.
"Yeah, we are alive," he muttered too.
A massive beat of wings made him shifted his eyes upward. The three dragons, the black, the dark red, and the brown, were no longer fighting. They stare for a moment at Reynold with their huge eyes looking to lock right onto Reynold.
And immediately he felt a strange tug in his chest, a feeling like static electricity on his skin. He wanted to ask them or perhaps wanting to call to them, to ask why they were hunting his dreams but this dragons don’t understand human english.
However, a roar sound sounded in the the arena, the three dragons turned together and did not bother to stop and they soared over the academy walls, and they their direction changed to the dragon stable.
The only left in the arena was nothing but the smell of burnt ground and the fallen soldiers of the Aetherclaws.
Reynold eyes was still on the sky, looking at the direction the three dragons flew to. He kept looking until there was nothing left. His heart was suddenly heavy with a question he did not know how or who to ask.
"Starweaver! You okay?" Nymeria asked as she tapped him on the shoulder.
"Yeah! Sure." Reynold swallowed as he licked his lips.
