The Hellhound was on him now, its molten fangs descending toward his face.

’The weakness of a hound comes after a piercing damage.’

As this thought chipped in at the last second, Buji found his Slayer in his hands and thrust it upward, driving the blade in horizontal movement into the creature’s throat and kicking it out with his foot.

The Hellhound let out a guttural cry, sputtering flames from its mouth as it staggered back.

Buji didn’t let up. He pushed himself to his feet, with a new surge of adrenaline coursing through his veins.

’You can end a beast or monster with a powerful and precise strike at his core.’ Those were Instructor Jean’s words while they raided the Bat cave.

"Die!!" Buji roared on his own, lunging forward to where the creature stopped, weakened. With all the speed he can gather, and precise swiftness, he plunged the Slayer into the beast’s chest.

He had targeted correctly at the chest. The blade pierced into the creature’s chest, and for a moment, the Hellhound froze.

This left Buji thinking, ’was that where its core is located? Had he made a mistake?’

But his strike landed at the right place. The frozen Hellhound suddenlyet out an ear-splitting howl and exploded into a shower of ashes.

"Phew," Buji let out and sat his buttocks on the floor.

[Level Up!]

[Level Up!]

<Ding!>

[You have slain a Hellhound!]

[EXP gained: 150]

[Strength increased by 2 points.]

Buji was panting heavily. He still needed to do the same thing for four more Hellhounds at least, for the invisible barrier to break. His Slayer clattered to the ground beside him, glowing faintly from the heat that gushed from the Hellhound.

Beside the Slayer, were two stones. He didn’t know what the stones were, but since it fell on the side where the hound had dismantled, he guessed they were Acquisitions from slaining the Hellbound. So, he picked it up and placed it in his Acquisition tab. He was going to check it out later.

He glanced up at the distance where he supposed the barrier stood. It was invisible so he couldn’t tell the condition it was in at the moment. All that craved in his mind was to complete breakthrough as soon as possible.

Buji pushed himself to his feet, his knuckles white as he gripped the Slayer tightly. The growl from the far end corner had got his attention.

He watched as another Hellhound matched into sight from the shadows, soon, three more joined. Four pairs of blazing eyes pierced him, each of which was more menacing than the other.

The Hellhounds had come, and they were not happy.

Buji checked their ability stats and saw they had the same ability as the previous one he killed. But still, it would have been better if they attacked one at a time.

"Four of them?" Buji muttered under his breath, his hand clinging tightly onto his sword. "I’m really going to make it out of this dungeon, I guess."

There were times and moments when he couldn’t even swing a sword, or take down an opponent. But today, he had done the first part as easy as he expected. Now, he had four more in his front, he guessed time will change as well.

He repositioned his stance, setting the Slayer in an angle formation so that it’s blade caught the dim glow of rays that came in through the dungeon’s walls.

The Hellhounds on the other hand fanned out, and encircled him.

The larger of the Hellhounds among the group let out a defeaning roar and stared angrily at Buji. Without warning, it leaped and charged.

The attack started like that of the first Hellhound, so, Buji sidestepped the lunge, escaping its claws which tore through the spaxe where he had been.

"So, that was how," he muttered, countering the creature’s move with a swift upward slash, aiming at the exposed side. The blade connected with the Hellhound’s body and sent sparks flying. Yet, the creature barely flinched.

"If not for your hides," Buji commented but before he knew it, another Hellbkund attacked from his left. It came with its fiery tail, whipping them toward Buji’s head.

"Murderous Intent," Buji said after a quick duck of from the attack. ’What if he tasted the power behind their tail?’

The look of the tail alone discourage him. It preeky torn on its body, and if it had cut through Buji’s, just what would happen...

If these were really Dormant dungeon creatures, then they should have no feat against him. He had greater power than they have, due to his fact as an S-Rank hunter. That being said, he needed to make sure he defeated the creatures and as soon as possible before time runs out.

With this new resolve, he sent a happy message to the creatures who were waiting to take action through his smile and declared. "Let’s play, buddies!."

He rolled to the side, thrusting his Slayer forward. It was a nice attack with a precise move as the blades of the sword pierced the second Hellhound’s shoulder. The creature howled in pain as molten blood gushed from the injury and splattered onto the dungeon floor.

Buji thought it wasn’t enough, and since it had got no notification yet, the creature was still alive. He ran forward towards where the creature was, suffering in pain, and pushed his sword to make a drill into the creature’s chest. In struggle for life, the hound waves its tail horizontally but Buji has activated his jumper skill and leaped away.

In the air, he saw himself descending onto the first Hellhound he had attacked. It was too late to stop whatever might be the outcome of his descent.

Anyway, he only positioned his Slayer to face downward as he landed atop the Hellhound which also slashed its tail against him. The force from the hit sent him fleeing into the distance afar, clutching onto his side stomach.

"Agh," Buji growled in pain.

The tail has indeed sharp thorns. Now he had a taste of that slash, the cut it had caused was just too deep. Deep enough...

Buji wanted to do something at the moment, but there was no time. Or, he didn’t know what he wanted to do.

Oh, yes. He wanted to heal himself. He figured out that he had healing score points and could use that to heal himself without summoning the D.E.M.O.N.S system.

"Healing Ability!"

The screen materialized in front of him immediately.

[The Player is asking to make use of his healing ability]

[20 Score Points expended from Healing Ability]

[The healing process is taking effect.]

Buji was still trying to comprehend the body changes and allow the healing process to fully take effect when the remaining two Hellhounds attacked in unison.

One leaped high, aiming for his chest, while the other lunged low, snapping its jaws at his legs.

Buji reacted instinctively. He dropped to one knee, and pulled out the Aetherfang unknowingly, raising it up to meet with the leapijg Hellhound which impaled itself on the blade. The momentum at which it descended assisted to drive the blade deeper. The creature let out a loud snarl before collapsing off Aetherfang.

The second Hellhound, however, still clamped its jaws around Buji’s leg. The pain was so intense. The pain that was caused by the creature’s molten teeth which bore into his legs.

"Get off me!" He snarled, slamming the pommel of his Aetherfang into the Hellhound’s head. The creature released its grip, stumbling back with a growl to end at the spot where the other of its colleague struggled to survive in pain.

Buji staggered to his feet, his leg throbbing as he made his movements to set some distance from the Hellhounds. Unlike when he got a cut, a health bar hovered in front of him blinking dangerous low.

Ding!

[The Player still has enough Score Points to heal himself. Do you wish to use it?]

He had barely recovered from the other healing score points he expended. Now, he will be expending another one. But he had to do it, at least, for survival.

"Yes!" he barked.

Soon enough, he began to feel the impact of the ability. He didn’t feel the previous one since he defended an attack during the process. His felt this warmth spread through his body. His wounds closed, and he felt his strength returned.

"Alright," he muttered, returning the Aetherfang back to his Acquisition box.

One thing he didn’t know was that as he healed, the two Hellhounds also healed.

The logic being that the cores of the Hellhounds allowed them to gain more strength, and feel revived whenever they tired their tails to each other. The energy that made this possible worked through their tails.

Buji didn’t know. Maybe the Hellhounds were aware of the fact, and that was why they didn’t bother to attack even when Buji’s condition was critical as well as theirs. The process was only possible if the Hellhounds still have a tinge of life in their cores, and that was the case for this two remaining Hellhounds.

Buji didn’t strike their core, and that was his mistake. But it was to the creatures’ advantage too.

Seeing what had happened, Buji blamed himself for his recklessness as he realize that. But, since he, too, was fueled, he will have to take another approach.
