Chapter 587: Chapter 0587: They Are All Acquaintances

The police quickly arrived and cordoned off the entire scene.

A young man sat inside, shakily bobbing his head like he’d lost his mind, when asked any question.

Ding Xue, driving over in the middle of the night, got out of the car with Bald Dog, who sniffed around upon arriving at the scene.

"What’s the situation?"

Ding Xue asked the forensic expert.

The expert said, "Four people, all died due to external force. One had his neck twisted off, two were gutted, and another was stabbed in the belly with a knife. Whoever did it was extremely strong, strong enough to crush bone with their grip."

Taken aback, Ding Xue passed under the police tape and pulled back the white sheet to look at the bodies.

She went over to a cop who was taking statements, and observed the dazed young man.

She asked the young cop, "What has this kid said?"

The cop shook his head, lifted the young man’s eyelid, and frowned, "This kid’s probably lost his mind, just keeps saying he doesn’t know."

Ding Xue’s head throbbed; it was her first time leading an investigation trusted upon her by the Chief, and now she faced such a complicated case.

Without sleep all night, the next day, at the police station.

Ding Xue reported to Director Wei Dongming, "Director, we’ve clarified the identities of the deceased. They were brothers; the elder one is Ma Ming, the younger one is Ma Liang, and the other two were their underlings. Lately, they had a conflict with a newly emerged figure on the streets known as the Iron-Faced Lone Ranger. Last night, this guy came alone to settle scores and killed all four of them in the blink of an eye."

Wei Dongming, smoking a cigarette, looked over her report and frowned, "Are you writing a martial arts novel or what? Who is this Iron-Faced Lone Ranger? Do we have surveillance footage of him? Can we confirm his identity?"

Ding Xue hurriedly pulled out a blurry surveillance screenshot from her file and handed it to Wei Dongming, "The lighting was poor at night, and since that street is known for illicit activities, this is the only surveillance footage we could find."

"Is this all you found out overnight?"

Wei Dongming glanced at the report and then at the vague surveillance image, his face full of dissatisfaction.

Ding Xue hesitantly added, "Actually, there’s a lead I’m not sure if I should mention."

Wei Dongming frowned, "What do you mean by ’should or shouldn’t say’? What could possibly be not worth mentioning at this point?"

Ding Xue cautiously said, "I brought a police dog to the scene last night, and it picked up the scent of a suspect we’re currently pursuing. I suspect that the Iron-Faced man is him."

"Who?"

Wei Dongming raised an eyebrow.

Ding Xue earnestly replied, "Wuu Xudong. He’s always reeking of blood, a smell humans can’t detect, but dogs can. I’ve compared the criminal’s physique and facial contour with his, and there’s an eighty percent chance they match."

She passed a full-body surveillance photo of Wuu Xudong to Wei Dongming for review.

She had obtained that full-body shot from the Jiang Family’s surveillance room.

Wei Dongming looked at both surveillance photos and fell silent in thought, slowly showing a hint of satisfaction, "Alright, continue leading this case. Catch this bastard as soon as possible. There’s immense pressure from above, and I can’t hold out for much longer!"

"Yes!"

Ding Xue let out a long sigh, thinking to herself how demanding her boss was.

’The boss’ was a nickname the cops had for Wei Dongming, not referring to a restaurant owner, but rather implying a stern-faced authority.

In the hospital, Long Fei was summoned by Ding Xue.

The only eyewitness from the scene was still zoned out on the hospital bed, and Ding Xue wanted Long Fei to take a look.

After meeting him, she recounted last night’s events.

Long Fei said with surprise, "Is that what Bald Dog said?"

Ding Xue nodded, "Yes, it said that the essence of death was present at the scene, confirming it was Wuu Xudong."

There were things she didn’t clearly spell out to the Director, but with Long Fei, it was different; she could speak openly.

Long Fei furrowed his brows, "I underestimated him then; his strength seems to have increased rapidly."

Ding Xue nodded and accompanied him into the elevator to go up.

Two junior cops were guarding the entrance to the hospital room. As they approached, the officers promptly stood up and saluted.

Ding Xue looked inside from the doorway, then pushed the door open and led Long Fei in.

As soon as Long Fei caught sight of the young man, he immediately froze for a moment.

The young man also became somewhat stunned as he stared at him, his body trembling as if he had seen a devil. He immediately got up and leaned against the wall.

"Chen Wei?"

Long Fei watched him, full of surprise.

Ding Xue, looking at him in astonishment, said, "You know each other?"

"Kind of!"

Long Fei nodded, seeing the confused look in Chen Wei’s eyes, as if he had lost his soul.

He took out two silver needles and threw them casually. With two swift whistling sounds, the silver needles pierced the acupoints on the top of Chen Wei’s head.

Chen Wei’s head spun and he thudded onto the bed.

The two young police officers outside heard the commotion and barged in as they pushed the door open.

Ding Xue waved her hand to signal them out, her admiration for Long Fei apparent.

Seems like these silver needles could even turn corners. Thrown straight, they somehow ended up striking the temples on the side.

Long Fei grabbed Chen Wei’s wrist and checked his pulse.

A stream of pure Essential Qi flowed out from his fingers, entering Chen Wei’s body, calming the chaos within his Qi and blood.

He pulled out the silver needles and waited nearby.

Chen Wei gradually opened his eyes and finally regained some composure. Trembling his lips, he said to Long Fei, "I didn’t kill the person, I didn’t murder anyone. It was the Iron-Faced person who killed."

Ding Xue let out a sigh of relief and asked him, "What else do you know?"

Chen Wei shook his head, thought for a moment, then said suddenly, "I heard people say that person likes to drink blood. He’s not human; he’s a beast, his eyes are all red."

That was his last impression of the Iron-Faced man, and it was those eyes that scared him out of his wits.

Long Fei lit a cigarette and sat down to the side.

Zombies, ranked by the color of their eyes.

Even the lowest-ranked zombies with red eyes are difficult for ordinary people to deal with.

The person who died this time, in a way, had some connections to him.

He and Ding Xue left together and he asked her, "Have the families been notified?"

Ding Xue shook her head and said, "No, we haven’t been able to contact them yet."

"Let me help you get in touch with them!"

Long Fei rubbed his head.

"You know their relatives?"

Ding Xue nearly regarded him as an Immortal.

Long Fei gave a bitter smile, "Just happen to know them, that’s all!"

He took out his phone, found Ma Kui’s number, and dialed it.

Ma Kui had just arrived in Binhai City; he had already heard of his brother’s death.

Someone who fled last night had called to inform him.

At the time, he was in Macau, thoroughly enjoying himself gambling with Sixth Master Tan and Golden-eyed Leopard. After hearing the news of his brothers’ deaths, he went mad, and without a second thought, he booked a ticket and flew back.

Sixth Master Tan and Golden-eyed Leopard, being loyal, accompanied him on his return.

Answering Long Fei’s call, his voice somewhat hoarse, he said, "Brother Long, is there something you need?"

Long Fei, understanding from his tone that he knew about his brothers’ deaths, didn’t say much and simply stated, "I’m at the hospital. Your brothers are here too. Come and see them one last time."
