Chapter 654: Chapter 695: Endure it and it will pass

Their business concluded hastily. The man wore a scowl, as if Sienna Johnson owed him 750,000.

Sienna knew it was pointless to talk to him while he was so upset. It was best to wait until evening when he had eaten his fill and would be in a better mood.

"My grandma is looking for me; I have to go now." She got dressed and bent over to kiss his cheek.

Adrian Desmond glared at her, his face dark. "I’m not getting involved with harvesting bird’s nests anymore. Figure it out yourself."

"Sixth Master, please calm down!" Sienna tried to soothe him with a hint of flattery.

"You’re not allowed to go!"

"I’ll be back soon!"

Adrian Desmond, bare-chested, began to throw a tantrum, trying to pressure Sienna. However, she wasn’t afraid of him and left with a smile.

His arousal stood erect like a sturdy White Poplar, and the simmering fire within Adrian Desmond began to surge uncontrollably.

He was the Sixth Master, envied by many. Yet, who could possibly understand the torment he endured, never feeling truly sated all day long?

Sienna arrived at the rooftop greenhouse, a glass room built on the roof with many different flowers planted inside. Adrian Desmond had originally built this greenhouse to win Sienna’s heart. But at that time, Sienna, solely focused on escaping, had rarely visited to appreciate the flowers.

"Grandma, did you want to see me?"

Sienna entered the greenhouse. The windows at the top were open, letting in a cool sea breeze. Despite being a glass room, it didn’t feel stuffy inside.

The old lady first glanced at Sienna’s belly. "The baby is five months along, right?"

"Yeah, time flies." Sienna sat down beside the old lady.

Fruits were laid out on the table. Sienna, feeling hungry, picked up a mango to eat.

Nearby, Pauline Briggs was arranging flowers she had just cut from the garden.

"You and Adrian are not young anymore," the old lady said. "There are many things I thought you both understood. But how could you act so foolishly?"

Sienna lost her appetite. It seemed her grandmother knew what had happened earlier.

Initially, her grandmother had asked Sienna to move in with her, partly to ensure the young couple exercised restraint. Sienna had repeatedly assured her they would, so the old lady had relented.

"Grandma, the doctor said it’s okay," she whispered, feeling very embarrassed.

"It will be too late if a problem arises."

Sienna put the half-eaten mango back on the plate, wiped her hands with a paper towel, and said, "Grandma, I understand. I’ll be more careful next time."

"It’s only for a few more months; you just need to be patient. How can you be so thoughtless? If anything goes wrong, it’s the woman who suffers. How could you indulge him like that?"

"Grandma, I understand." Sienna’s face flushed. "Please, don’t say anymore. I’m too embarrassed."

"If I don’t emphasize this, you won’t listen to me."

"Yes, yes, I’ll definitely listen."

The old lady lectured, "I won’t trust you again. You’ll move in and live with me tonight."

How could that be? Sienna wondered. If I really move in, Adrian, with his temper, will probably eat me alive!

"Grandma, I promise it won’t happen again. Please, let me off the hook this time."

"What’s wrong with you, child? Are you not going to listen to me anymore?"

Pauline Briggs interjected, "Mom, Sienna always listens to you. Just give her a talking-to; she won’t do it again."

"Yes, I absolutely will never do it again!" Sienna quickly pledged.

Sienna knew she absolutely couldn’t move in with the old lady. Besides, Adrian would never agree.

"Grandma, tomorrow we’re harvesting bird’s nests. Would you like to come to Swallow Island with me to take a look? ... I really can’t tell good bird’s nests from bad ones."

Actually, Adrian had already found an expert for her. Sienna only said this to divert the old lady’s attention.

"You should ask your mother about this," the old lady replied. "She’s eaten far more bird’s nests than I have."

Pauline Briggs chimed in, "I only know how to eat them. When it comes to bird’s nests, Grandma is, of course, the real expert."

"Let’s all go!" Sienna declared. "Grandma, you’ll come, and Mom, you’ll come too!"

「...」

The next day was the appointed time for harvesting bird’s nests. However, Sienna, who had been ’punished’ by Adrian for half the night, couldn’t get out of bed.

Adrian, already fully dressed, left the curtains drawn and quietly closed the bedroom door behind him as he left.

Walter Klein was already waiting in the corridor. Seeing Adrian emerge, he reported, "Sixth Master, everyone has arrived. When will you and Madam be going?"

"Madam isn’t feeling well. I’ll go by myself."

Adrian shot him a chilling glare. Walter shuddered and dared not say another word.

As they descended in the elevator, Walter finally understood. Sienna must be fine, he thought. If anything were actually wrong, Adrian would be far more agitated than I am.

Swallow Island was not small, but it consisted mainly of reefs and rocky hills. Not even grass grew there; it was a completely barren landscape with no discernible value.

The old lady had eaten her fair share of bird’s nests but had never seen them being harvested. Brimming with curiosity, she had barely slept the night before.

"Grandma, Mom..." Adrian greeted as he walked over.

Pauline Briggs looked at Adrian and asked, "Where’s Sienna?"

"Oh, she was so excited about harvesting bird’s nests today that she didn’t rest well. She didn’t wake up this morning, so I let her stay home and rest."

He added, "Besides, she’s pregnant, and the paths on the island are difficult to navigate. It wouldn’t be convenient for her to come."

"That’s true. It’s better for her to stay home then," Pauline Briggs chimed in.

The old lady gave Adrian a sharp look and snorted derisively, but said nothing more.

The group boarded the boat and set off towards Swallow Island.

Curly carried a small basket, dressed like a little girl off to pick strawberries. Adrian didn’t have the heart to tell her that bird’s nests were found on cliffs, not on the ground.

"Dad, when will we get there?"

"Soon."

Curly wore denim overalls, a pair of white canvas shoes, and a straw hat.

"Wow, is that Swallow Island?" Curly exclaimed as they drew closer. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

As they neared Swallow Island, the number of swiflets increased, and their cheerful chirping filled the air.

Having stepped away from the Johnson family estate and into this vast, open expanse, the old lady’s spirits lifted immediately.

"I’ve never seen so many swiflets before!" she marveled.

"Mom, I’ll harvest a few myself later, and I’ll stew some bird’s nest soup for you tonight," Adrian promised Pauline.

"That sounds good. I trust your cooking skills," Pauline replied.

Walter Klein watched the Johnson family’s leisurely excursion, momentarily speechless. A thousand men mobilized from the base just to harvest bird’s nests? He was utterly dumbfounded. Was this not a colossal waste of personnel?

By the time their party arrived, the thousand individuals dispatched from the base had already begun their work. The arrivals were mostly young teenagers, and the scene was quite spectacular.
