Chapter 52: Fords Fear

Ford ran as fast as he could, praying he wasn’t too late. His heart pounded in his chest as he clutched Elena tightly in his arms. "You’re going to be fine, Elena. Just hold on, okay?" he murmured repeatedly, as if saying it enough times would make it true.

As he reached the entrance of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a team of doctors and nurses stood in formation, waiting for him. Their expressions were a mix of shock and urgency, their eyes widening as they took in the sight before them. It wasn’t even up to three times that he had visited the company, much less storming inside , carrying an injured woman. Despite their astonishment, they all bowed slightly out of respect.

Ford didn’t care about the attention. He didn’t care that their phones were probably out, snapping pictures of him or that Elena’s identity would soon be revealed to the public. None of it mattered. The only thing on his mind was her survival.

The hospital staff rushed to his side, bringing a stretcher to receive Elena. Ford hesitated for a moment, reluctant to let go. He lowered her onto the bed as delicately as if she were made of glass, as if the slightest rough movement might shatter her. His hands lingered on her for a second before he took a step back, his face filled with unspoken fear.

Together with the nurses, he helped push the stretcher forward, weaving through the hallways toward the emergency room. But just as they reached the final set of doors, a firm hand on his shoulder stopped him.

"Sir Ford, you know you can’t come in with her," a calm but authoritative voice said.

Ford turned sharply, his eyes landing on Doctor Charles, the hospital’s most renowned surgeon. The doctor’s expression was understanding but resolute. "Just trust me. Let my team do our job," he reassured him.

Ford clenched his fists, every instinct screaming at him to stay by Elena’s side. But he knew Charles was right. Hospital policies didn’t allow non-medical personnel inside, and his presence might only be a distraction.

"Please," Ford said, his voice barely above a whisper. "Give her your best. Handle her with care."

Doctor Charles gave him a firm nod. "I definitely will, Sir Ford." With that, he turned and disappeared behind the doors, leaving Ford standing helplessly outside.

The moment the doors shut, a crushing wave of helplessness washed over Ford. He had never felt this powerless before. He was a man used to control, to fixing problems with money, power, and influence. But here, none of that mattered.

All he could do now was wait.

Kelvin and Lily stood in silence, watching everything unfold before them. Tension filled the air, thick and heavy. Lily trembled, her hands clasped tightly together as if holding herself together. Her eyes were filled with sadness, and Kelvin could see how much she was struggling to stay composed.

He wanted to pull her into a comforting embrace, to reassure her that everything would be alright. But he couldn’t. Ford was there. And with the weight of the situation, now wasn’t the time.

Still, Kelvin couldn’t ignore the urge to do something—anything—to ease the burden, not just for Lily but for Ford as well. Taking a step toward his friend, he placed a firm yet gentle hand on Ford’s shoulder, hoping to soothe his nerves.

Kelvin had known Ford for years, but this? This was something he had never seen before. His friend, was powerful and composed , but what he saw today completely unraveling before his eyes.

Ford had always been surrounded by beautiful women, but none had ever affected him like this. He had never let his guard down, never allowed himself to get attached. But Elena? She had changed everything.

Maybe she was different.

Kelvin sighed, his voice calm but firm. "Don’t worry too much. Just try to calm down. She’s going to be fine," he reassured Ford. "And you—you haven’t even fully recovered yet. Please, take a breath."

But Ford barely reacted. His gaze remained locked on the ICU doors, his mind entirely consumed by Elena. It was as if nothing else in the world existed.

Lily stepped forward, her voice soft. "I’ll be right back. Let me just wash my hands and face."

Kelvin nodded as she walked away, but his focus was still on Ford. He had no idea if his friend had even processed a single word he had said.

Shaking his head, he turned toward Lily. Maybe this was his chance to be alone with her. He had been waiting for a moment like this, even if the circumstances weren’t ideal.

"Let me escort her," Kelvin said, trying to snap Ford out of his daze. "I’ll make sure she’s alright. And I’ll grab you a bottle of water on the way. Is that fine?"

Silence.

Ford didn’t respond. Didn’t even blink.

Kelvin exhaled in frustration. His friend was completely lost in his thoughts, drowning in worry for Elena.

Shaking his head, Kelvin reached out and firmly gripped Ford’s shoulders, giving them a slight shake. "Ford!" he called again, louder this time, hoping to pull him back to reality.

Still, there was no reaction.

Kelvin sighed. Ford was far gone, and nothing he said would change that. All he could do now was be there for him—and for Lily.

Ford blinked as if snapping out of a trance. He turned toward Kelvin, his eyes unfocused, as though he had just realized someone was speaking to him.

"Sorry, what did you say?" he asked, but almost immediately, his gaze darted back to the ICU doors, his entire being focused on what lay beyond them.

Kelvin sighed and repeated himself patiently. "Lily wants to wash her hands and face. I’ll escort her to make sure she’s alright. What drink do you want?"

Ford barely seemed to register his words. He gave a small nod, his voice distant. "Oh, yes. Do whatever you wish. Just... keep her safe."

Lily’s heart ached for her brother. She had never seen him like this before—so vulnerable, so lost. There was no doubt in her mind now—he truly loved Elena. The realization made her chest tighten with emotion. She had once been unsure about Elena, unsure if she deserved Ford’s love. But now, Lily prayed with all her heart that she would recover.

A single tear slipped down her cheek, followed by another. She didn’t bother wiping them away.

Kelvin noticed immediately. The sight of her crying stirred something deep within him, a need to comfort her. He glanced at Ford again, but his friend remained frozen, eyes locked on the doors, oblivious to everything else.

Without another word, Kelvin reached for Lily’s hand, gripping it gently as he led her away.

As they exited, Ford finally seemed to notice their movement. He turned just in time to see his sister’s hand in Kelvin’s—only for a fleeting moment before they disappeared through the doors.

But Ford showed no reaction. His face remained blank, his emotions poured entirely into one person alone—Elena. Nothing else mattered.

Lily and Kelvin walked in silence for a while. The quiet hallway seemed to stretch endlessly, and Lily could no longer contain her curiosity.

"Where are we going?" she finally asked, her voice soft but laced with confusion.

Before she could receive an answer, Kelvin suddenly pulled her into a nearby room. The door shut behind them, and before she could react, she found herself wrapped tightly in his arms.

Her breath hitched in surprise. But then, realization dawned. This was what he had wanted all along—to be alone with her, even if just for a moment.

A smile broke through her sadness. Without hesitation, she returned the embrace, melting into his warmth.

Kelvin held her tightly, as if afraid to let go. In this moment, amidst all the chaos, she was his only solace. And for Lily, in his arms, the weight of her worries seemed just a little lighter.

Kelvin held Lily close, his arms wrapped tightly around her. He could feel her trembling slightly, the weight of everything pressing down on her. Pulling back just enough to look into her eyes, he brushed a strand of hair away from her face, tucking it gently behind her ear.

"I missed you," he said softly, his eyes filled with concern. "How are you feeling?"

Lily sighed, her shoulders slumping. "I’m so sad... and broken. I just hope she gets better." Her voice wavered, and Kelvin could see the pain in her eyes.

His heart ached for her. He hated seeing her like this, so fragile and worried. "I was scared something happened to you," he admitted. "I’m sorry about Elena. But don’t worry, she’s going to be alright."

His words were meant to comfort her, but he knew they weren’t enough. So, he leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss on her lips, then another on her forehead. Pulling her into another embrace, he held her there, letting her soak in the warmth and reassurance of his presence.

For a while, they just stood there, wrapped in each other’s arms, finding comfort in the silence. But eventually, reality called them back.

"We need to go now," Kelvin murmured. "Before Ford starts wondering why we’ve been gone so long. He needs us now more than ever."

Lily nodded, reluctantly stepping back.

Kelvin sighed, shaking his head in amazement. "But Lily... I never knew Ford truly loved her like this. It’s unbelievable."

Lily gave a small, sad smile. "I’m just as surprised as you are."

"You wouldn’t believe what he did," Kelvin continued. "He shut down all hospital operations and even released all the security personnel just to find you and Elena."

Lily’s eyes widened. "He did that?"

Kelvin nodded. "Yeah. He didn’t care about anything else. All that mattered to him was finding her."

Lily smiled, touched by the depth of her brother’s love. "I’m happy we got there on time. Elena was already turning blue. I don’t even want to think about what could’ve happened if we had been any later."

Kelvin’s expression darkened. "Who do you think did this to her?"

Lily hesitated for a moment before speaking. "I don’t know... but whoever it was wanted her dead."

Kelvin’s jaw tightened. "Do you think it was Sia? You know how far she’s willing to go for Ford."
