The Billionaire's Temptation: Love, Family and Revenge-Chapter 56: Out of Danger
"I definitely will," her mother said, her voice calm but firm. "But I still have to tell you the truth."
She paused, her eyes scanning Sia’s face before continuing. "After everything you did years ago, do you really think he will ever take you back? I doubt it. That’s why I’m advising you to move on."
With that, she turned around and walked out of the room, pulling the door shut behind her. The soft click of the door closing echoed in the silent space.
Sia sat frozen, her mother’s words hitting her like a punch to the stomach. Her eyes filled with tears, her vision becoming blurry.
"No... I can’t leave him," she whispered, her voice trembling. "I can’t. He was mine in the first place."
Desperation clung to every word as she hugged her pillow tightly. Her body shook with quiet sobs, her heart aching at the thought of losing Ford forever. She cried until exhaustion took over, her tears soaking the pillow beneath her. Eventually, sleep pulled her into darkness.
Meanwhile, in the hospital, the atmosphere was tense. The bright overhead lights cast a sterile glow over the white walls. Doctors and nurses moved swiftly through the hallways, their footsteps echoing in the stillness of the night.
Elena had been in surgery for hours. The wait felt endless, and the stress weighed heavily on Ford’s shoulders. He sat on one of the chairs in the waiting area, his elbows resting on his knees, his hands clasped together. His eyes, filled with worry, flickered to the people around him.
Lily had dozed off, her head resting gently on Kelvin’s shoulder. Kelvin, too, had leaned back against the wall, his head tilted slightly as he tried to rest. The exhaustion on their faces was clear.
Ford sighed, glancing at the clock on the wall. The red digital numbers read 9:17 PM. Time had slipped away, and yet, there was still no news about Elena.
Realizing how late it had gotten, he slowly stood up. His body was stiff from sitting for so long. Taking a step forward, he reached out and gently tapped Kelvin on the shoulder.
Kelvin stirred immediately, his eyes blinking open. As soon as he saw Ford standing in front of him, his heart skipped a beat. His mind raced with nervous thoughts. Had Ford noticed how close he and Lily were? Did he suspect anything?
Before he could say anything, Ford spoke in a tired, quiet voice.
"Wake up. You guys need to go home," he said, his gaze shifting between them. "Don’t worry, I’ll stay with Elena until she wakes up."
His voice was calm but laced with exhaustion.
Hearing him speak, Lily stirred from her sleep, stretching her arms as she let out a small yawn. She blinked a few times, her drowsy eyes landing on her older brother.
Ford was standing right in front of them, his gaze lingering on Kelvin. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Lily panicked for a moment as she realized her head had just been resting on Kelvin’s shoulder. She quickly straightened up, feeling slightly embarrassed. Before she could say anything, she heard Ford’s tired voice.
"You’re awake. You both should go home," he said. His tone was calm but distant, as if his mind was elsewhere. Without waiting for a response, he turned and walked back to his seat.
Lily stood up and walked toward her brother. As she got closer, she noticed how heavy his eyes looked, dark circles forming underneath them. She could tell he hadn’t slept at all. The exhaustion was clear on his face.
Feeling a pang of concern, she gently wrapped her arms around him in a comforting hug. "It’s going to be fine," she whispered softly, hoping to reassure him. After a moment, she pulled away, but he remained silent, his mind still clouded with worry.
Just a little while ago, the hospital had been filled with chaos. Doctors and nurses were running frantically, their hurried movements making the waiting even more unbearable. The uncertainty had made everyone anxious, especially Ford. Lily had watched as her brother paced back and forth, his hands clenched into fists, his face tense with worry.
The moment that stood out the most to her was when she saw Ford grab one of the nurses by the arm. The young woman had been carrying three bags of blood, her hands trembling as she tried to move quickly. But Ford wouldn’t let her pass so easily.
His voice was sharp, filled with authority. "Tell me what’s going on, or you’ll lose your job," he demanded. His grip tightened slightly as his frustration grew.
The nurse’s eyes widened in fear. She hesitated for a moment, but seeing the intensity in his gaze, she gave in. "One of Elena’s ribs was broken," she admitted in a shaky voice. "It caused a deep tear inside her body, and she’s losing a lot of blood."
Hearing those words, Ford’s entire body stiffened. His grip on the nurse loosened, and without another word, he let her go. She rushed down the hall, carrying the blood as quickly as she could.
Lily had never seen her brother act like this before. The raw emotion in his eyes, the desperation in his voice—it was something new. At that moment, she knew.
Ford had fallen in love with Elena.
Her suspicion was confirmed when she saw him leave the waiting area and head toward the chapel nearby. Curious, she quietly followed him, peeking inside.
There he was—on his knees.
A lump formed in her throat. Her brother never knelt for anyone. The only time she had ever seen him like this was when their mother had been dying. He had prayed, begged, pleaded for her to live. But in the end, she still passed away.
And yet, here he was again, on his knees, asking God for another miracle.
Lily’s eyes welled up with tears. Watching her brother on his knees, she felt a deep ache in her chest. She, too, had doubted if God truly existed. After everything they had been through—the loss, the heartbreak—it was hard to believe in miracles.
But for Elena, she chose to hope again.
Closing her eyes, she whispered a small, silent prayer in her heart. It was simple, but it carried all her emotions. Please, let her be okay.
An hour passed, each second dragging on like an eternity. The waiting area remained quiet, except for the occasional footsteps of nurses passing by. The fluorescent hospital lights flickered slightly, adding to the cold, tense atmosphere.
Finally, the doors to the ICU swung open, and Doctor Charles stepped out. A warm smile stretched across his face as he approached them.
Ford immediately stood up, his entire body stiff with anticipation.
"You don’t need to worry, Mr. Ford," the doctor said reassuringly. "I know you were really scared, so I thought I’d come out myself to calm you down."
Ford let out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. His hands, which had been clenched tightly at his sides, loosened slightly.
"Thank you, Doctor," he said, his voice still filled with worry. "I was so scared. Is Elena stable now?"
Doctor Charles nodded. "Oh yes, she’s alright now. We did everything we could, and it was a success." He paused for a moment, his face turning serious. "But, Mr. Ford, you need to be careful. Whoever did this to her didn’t just want to hurt her—they wanted to kill her. Her injuries were deep and severe."
Ford’s jaw tightened, his expression darkening. His hands curled back into fists. He had suspected as much, but hearing it confirmed made his blood boil.
"Don’t worry," he said, his voice low and firm. "I will get to the root of this. When you’re done, send me the CCTV footage."
Doctor Charles gave a small nod of understanding. "Yes, sir. I’ll round things up and get it to you as soon as possible." With that, he turned and disappeared back into the ICU.
Lily exhaled, the tension in her chest easing just a little. She turned to her brother and wrapped her arms around him.
Ford, though still lost in thought, hugged her back.
"I’ll bring you food and a change of clothes when I come tomorrow, okay?" she said, trying to lighten the mood with a small smile.
Ford managed a tired nod.
"Oh, and don’t forget to bring something for Elena too," he added.
Lily grinned. "I definitely won’t."
Kelvin, who had been standing nearby, reached out and patted Ford’s shoulder. It was a silent show of support—one friend reassuring another.
With that, Kelvin and Lily turned and walked away, leaving Ford standing there, his mind still consumed with thoughts of Elena.
After what felt like an eternity, Doctor Charles finally emerged from the ICU. The bright red light above the doors, which signaled an ongoing operation, flickered off. The moment Ford saw it, he let out a deep breath, one he had been holding for far too long.
Relief washed over him, but anxiety still clung to his heart.
"Can I see her now?" he asked urgently, his voice laced with emotion. He sounded like a mother desperate to see her child after a long separation.
Doctor Charles smiled warmly. "Oh yes, Sir Ford. But she’s still unconscious, so please take it easy. No noise—she needs as much rest as possible. Just wait a little while longer. The nurses will clean her up and move her to a private room."
Ford nodded, his heart pounding in anticipation. "I will. Thank you, Doctor Charles," he said sincerely, shaking the doctor’s hand with a grateful smile.
