The Billionaire's Temptation: Love, Family and Revenge-Chapter 57: Almost Caught
Excitement and nervousness swirled inside him as he gently pushed the door open. The room was quiet, the air filled with the soft beeping of the heart monitor.
And there she was.
Elena lay peacefully on the hospital bed, her breathing slow and steady. Her long hair, usually tied up in a neat ponytail, was now loose, cascading over the pillow in soft waves. The white hospital gown she wore only intensified her beauty, making her look almost angelic.
Ford felt his heart tighten at the sight of her. Hours of waiting, of fear and uncertainty, had built up in his chest, and now that he was finally here with her, the emotions threatened to overwhelm him.
Slowly, he walked toward her bed, his footsteps light as if afraid to wake her. His joy at seeing her again after hours of agony knew no bounds. Tears welled up in his eyes, but for the first time that night, they weren’t from fear—they were from relief.
With a small, trembling smile, he reached for her hand, his fingers gently intertwining with hers. Her skin was soft, but her hand felt cold.
"Baby, are you in pain?" he whispered, his voice barely above a breath. "You’re going to be fine, okay? I promise."
Lifting her delicate hand to his lips, he pressed a gentle kiss to the back of her palm, his heart aching with love and worry. Then, he leaned down and placed another soft kiss on her forehead, lingering there for a moment.
Finally, for the first time in hours, he allowed himself to smile.
It was then that exhaustion hit him. His legs suddenly felt weak, his body drained from the sleepless night and overwhelming emotions. But none of that mattered.
She was safe. That was all that mattered.
The hospital room was silent, except for the steady beeping of the heart monitor. The dim light from the bedside lamp cast a warm glow over the space, making it feel calm and peaceful.
Elena lay on the large hospital bed, her chest rising and falling gently with each breath. Her face, though pale, still carried its delicate beauty. The loose strands of her dark hair framed her face, making her look even more fragile.
Ford stood beside her, watching her as if afraid she would disappear if he looked away. His fingers brushed against her cheek he ached to be more closed to her.
Carefully, with slow and deliberate movements, he climbed onto the bed, making sure not to disturb her. The mattress was big enough to hold them both, and he moved with complete silence, not wanting to cause even the slightest noise.
Finally, he lay down beside her, his body close but not pressing against hers. His heart ached as he watched her, longing for her to wake up and look at him. Gently, he leaned in and placed a soft kiss on her dry lips.
Pulling back, he sighed, finally allowing himself to relax. His exhaustion weighed heavily on him, and with Elena safely beside him, his eyes grew heavy. Within moments, they closed, and for the first time in hours, he drifted into sleep.
Meanwhile, outside the hospital, Daniel stood frozen in shock.
He had come here to see his boss, Ford, hoping to check on him after hearing about the accident. But what he stumbled upon instead left him shaken.
As he approached the hospital entrance, his eyes caught sight of a familiar figure speaking to a man dressed in black. Something about the way they stood close together, whispering in hushed voices, made him stop in his tracks.
At first, he thought about walking away. It wasn’t his business. But then, curiosity got the better of him. Instead of leaving, he quietly stepped behind a large concrete pillar, hiding in the shadows to listen.
"I will send your balance later," the woman’s voice said.
Daniel stiffened. He recognized that voice.
"My balance later?" the man scoffed, his tone laced with anger. "Don’t play games with me. I need my balance now!"
"Calm down," she replied, trying to keep her voice steady. "I don’t have enough cash with me right now, but I’ll transfer it to you soon."
There was a tense silence before the man spoke again.
"I thought you wanted your step-sister, Elena, dead. What changed?"
Daniel’s heart nearly stopped.
The woman’s voice came again, cool and uncaring. "There’s no need. She’s already learned her lesson."
Daniel’s eyes widened in horror. Elena? he whispered. His breathing became unsteady.
He stepped back in shock, but his foot accidentally hit a metal can, sending it rolling noisily across the pavement.
Panic shot through him. Without thinking, he turned and ran, his heart pounding against his chest.
Sweat dripped down his forehead as his mind raced. Did I hear that right? Was that... Jane? Elena’s own sister?
His stomach twisted with unease. Did she really try to harm her own blood?
Questions swirled in his mind, but no answers came.
As Daniel arrived at the hospital premises, the entire place seemed to be in an uproar. The faint sound of hurried footsteps, whispers, and scattered voices filled the air. But none of it mattered once his eyes landed on the scene before him.
There, in the middle of the chaos, was Ford. And in his arms—Elena.
Daniel’s breath hitched.
His first instinct was to rush toward them, to reach out and take her from Ford’s arms. But something held him back. He remained frozen in place, unable to move.
His gaze flickered across the crowd until he locked eyes with Kelvin, Ford’s close friend. The moment their eyes met, a surge of panic shot through Daniel’s chest. Without thinking, he turned on his heels and walked away.
His heart pounded violently as he made his way back to his car. The fear of being recognized sent a cold shiver down his spine, but after a few moments of waiting, nothing happened. No one called out to stop him. No one grabbed him.
Maybe Kelvin didn’t really see me, he thought, gripping the steering wheel tightly.
His knuckles turned white from the pressure, but his mind was elsewhere.
It wasn’t seeing Elena so helpless that angered him—it was seeing her in another man’s arms.
Meanwhile, inside the hospital room, Ford had finally allowed himself a moment of rest. He had drifted into a light sleep, exhaustion finally catching up with him after the long, stressful night.
But something stirred him awake.
A faint noise. A rustling sound carried by the cold night breeze slipping in through the open window. His eyes flickered open, but he didn’t move.
Instead, he remained still, his gaze fixed on Elena. The steady rise and fall of her chest reassured him that she was okay.
Then, a strange feeling settled in his stomach.
Slowly, he lifted his eyes toward the door.
And that was when he saw it.
A shadow.
Someone was standing near the doorway, their figure barely visible in the dim lighting of the room.
Ford’s body stiffened. His muscles tensed, but his voice remained calm.
"Who is that?" he asked, his tone low and controlled.
The figure didn’t move.
A cold shiver ran down Ford’s spine. His eyes narrowed as he sat up, his pulse quickening.
"Didn’t you hear me?" he asked again, this time more firmly. "I asked—who are you?"
Still, the shadow remained motionless.
The eerie silence in the room sent a wave of unease through him.
Without wasting another second, Ford sprang from the bed. His feet hit the cold hospital floor as he hurried toward the light switch.
With a sharp flick, the room was suddenly flooded with light.
But when he turned back toward the doorway
The shadow was gone.
Ford didn’t hesitate. The moment the shadow disappeared from the doorway, he jumped to his feet and sprinted after them. His heart pounded in his chest, his mind racing with questions.
Who was that?
he couldn’t help but wonder
The only reason someone would be silently watching them was if they had something to hide. And in Ford’s mind, there was only one explanation—the person lurking in the shadows had to be the same one who hurt Elena.
His feet slammed against the cold hospital floor as he ran down the dimly lit corridor. His sharp eyes scanned every direction, but there was no sign of the figure.
Then, just as he was about to give up, he noticed something.
A man dressed in all black stood behind a thick pillar, his body partially hidden in the shadows.
Ford’s gaze locked onto him.
The moment the man realized he had been spotted, he bolted.
Without thinking twice, Ford launched himself forward, chasing after him with everything he had.
The hospital hallways echoed with the sound of their footsteps. The man darted through turns, moving swiftly, but Ford was right behind him. He wasn’t going to let him get away.
The chase continued down the corridors, past startled nurses and late-night visitors. Ford’s determination burned like fire—he needed to know who this man was and what he was hiding.
But suddenly, the man took a sharp turn and disappeared behind a row of hospital rooms.
By the time Ford reached the corner, the man was gone.
Ford slowed his steps, scanning the area carefully. His chest rose and fell with deep, controlled breaths. He wouldn’t let his frustration cloud his mind.
Then, unknown to Ford, the man—Daniel—was just a few feet away.
Panting heavily, Daniel pressed his back against the wall of a nearby hallway, his heart racing as he listened for Ford’s footsteps. He knew he had only seconds before Ford would come looking again.
Thinking fast, he peeled off his black polo and yanked off his black cap. Without wasting time, he stuffed them into a nearby trash bin, replacing them with a wrinkled blue shirt he had hidden in his bag earlier.
His hands trembled slightly as he buttoned the shirt. His pulse was still erratic, but at least his outfit was different now. He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself.
Just as he was about to slip away, a firm hand suddenly gripped his shoulder.
Daniel froze.
A chill shot down his spine as his breath caught in his throat. Sweat dripped from his forehead. His fingers curled slightly, his body stiff with panic.
Then came the voice.
"Daniel?"
It was deep, familiar, and unmistakable.
Daniel’s stomach twisted.
He had been caught?
Swallowing hard, he slowly turned around, coming face to face with Ford.
Ford’s sharp eyes studied him closely. "What brings you here at this time of night?" 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Daniel’s heart pounded louder than ever.
