Chapter 68: Longing for Elena

Elena slowly closed her eyes, taking a deep breath, then opened them again. Her heart was beating fast. She was silently thankful that Doctor Charles and Kelvin had walked in when they did. They had unknowingly saved her from a very difficult moment.

Lily’s question about her feelings for Ford had caught her completely off guard. And the truth was, Elena didn’t know how to answer. She wasn’t sure how she truly felt about Ford. She didn’t hate him—far from it. She cared for him deeply, but she couldn’t quite figure out what kind of love it was.

Did she love him as a friend, someone who had been there for her when she needed it the most? Or was it something deeper? Something romantic? Something... physical?

It confused her. The way he looked at her, the way he stayed beside her through everything—it all touched her heart. But at the same time, doubt still lived in her mind. Maybe Ford didn’t love her in the same way. Maybe he only saw her as someone to pass time with, not someone to build a future with.

And then there was Lily. Sweet, kind Lily—her best friend, who clearly adored both of them. Elena knew Lily wanted nothing more than to see her brother and her best friend together. But telling Lily that she wasn’t sure how she felt... that she doubted Ford’s intentions... it would only hurt her. And hurting Lily was the last thing Elena wanted.

She sighed quietly, lost in thought, until Doctor Charles spoke, pulling her attention back to the room.

"Oh, Miss Elena! You’re finally awake, and I heard you remember your friends," he said cheerfully, walking over to her bed with a big smile. Relief was written all over his face.

He had been worried, too—worried not just for Elena’s health, but for his own job. If Elena hadn’t woken up or had suffered memory loss so severe that she couldn’t even recognize those around her, it could reflect badly on him. Especially in the eyes of Ford, his powerful and demanding boss. But seeing her awake, aware, and able to recognize people gave him hope.

"Yes, Doctor Charles," Elena replied softly. "I feel a lot better now. I just have a terrible migraine... and some pain around the area that was operated on."

"Don’t worry," the doctor said gently. "We’ll give you something to help with the pain." He turned to the nurse nearby. "Please give her some analgesics and make sure she’s being monitored closely."

"Yes, sir," the nurse replied, quickly stepping out of the room to fetch the medication.

Lily, who had been quiet for a moment, now spoke up, her voice tinged with sadness. "Doctor Charles, I almost forgot to mention. Elena... she doesn’t seem to remember what happened. I mean, she remembers us—but not the incident."

Doctor Charles raised an eyebrow in interest. "I see... So she remembers people, but not the event itself?"

Lily nodded.

"That’s actually good news," the doctor said reassuringly. "The most important thing is that she remembers the people close to her. From there, it’s easier. Often, memory about the event comes back slowly, especially if she sees or hears something related to it. And if the person who did this to her appears again, it might trigger something."

Before anyone could say another word, the door to the room flew open. A strong gust of air rushed in with it. Standing there, breathless and wide-eyed, was Ford.

"Elena!" he called out, his voice shaky and full of emotion.

Everyone turned to look at him. Elena’s eyes met his, and for a moment, everything else in the room faded away. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

The two of them were lost in eachothers eyes It felt like it was the first time they set eyes on eachother.

Elena and Ford stood frozen, lost in each other’s eyes. It was as if time had stopped. Their gazes locked so deeply, it felt like they were meeting for the very first time.

Elena’s heart pounded in her chest. Her lips trembled, and her eyes filled with emotion. A soft gasp escaped her mouth as memories and feelings started to return, overwhelming her senses. She felt the urge to move closer, to hold him—to feel his warmth and know he was real.

She couldn’t stay still any longer. Though her body was still weak, and her legs felt shaky beneath her, Elena gently pulled off the light cover draped over her. With effort, she swung her legs off the bed. Each step was slow, unsteady, but full of determination. She walked toward Ford, her eyes never leaving his.

Ford’s eyes widened the moment he realized what was happening. His breath caught in his throat. "You... you remember," he whispered, barely believing the moment was real. The sight of her standing—her frail body fighting through weakness just to reach him—made his eyes fill with tears. It was too much. The woman he had missed so deeply was finally back.

In a heartbeat, he rushed forward. Just as Elena’s knees began to buckle, Ford caught her in his strong arms, holding her tightly against him. Her body relaxed in his embrace as if it was the only place she had ever belonged.

Elena closed her eyes, breathing in his scent, a mixture of pine, soap, and something uniquely him. Her arms wrapped around him slowly, holding on as tightly as her tired limbs could manage.

"My baby," Ford whispered into her ear, his voice thick with emotion. "You remember me. I’ve missed you so much."

A tear rolled down Elena’s cheek as she whispered back, "I missed you too."

They stayed like that for a few moments, wrapped in each other’s arms, the rest of the world forgotten. It didn’t matter where they had been, or what had happened—because now, in this moment, they were together again.

Carefully, Ford pulled back just enough to look into her eyes. They were still filled with emotion, still shining with recognition and love. Without saying a word, he gently lifted her into his arms and carried her back to the bed. He laid her down softly, brushing a strand of hair from her face.

Lily let out a small laugh, her eyes twinkling with amusement as she glanced between Ford and Elena. The room was filled with emotion, and the air almost seemed heavier, warmer—charged with something special.

"Umm... I think we should give them some space. It’s already getting too hot in here," Lily joked, chuckling softly. She gave Elena a playful thumbs-up before stepping back, her smile full of support and joy for her friend.

Just as Lily and the others were about to leave the room, the door swung open quickly and a nurse walked in, holding a small white bag in her hands.

"Doctor Charles, here is the medicine," the nurse said, handing it over with care.

"Oh yes, almost forgot," Doctor Charles replied, taking the bag. He turned to Ford with a slight nod. "Let’s not forget, she’s still in pain, Sir Ford."

Ford’s expression immediately changed. His smile faded into concern as he looked down at Elena, who was still resting on the hospital bed. "Baby, you’re still in pain?" he asked gently, his voice filled with worry.

Elena gave a shy nod, her eyes lowering for a moment. She didn’t want to worry him, but the dull ache in her body was still there, reminding her of everything she had been through.

Ford turned to the doctor, his voice firm but calm. "Doctor Charles, she needs to eat first. After she eats, then she can take the medicine."

The doctor nodded quickly, understanding the importance of food before medication. "Oh yes, Sir. That’s important too," he agreed, placing the medicine gently on the small table beside Elena’s bed. He tapped the box lightly. "The prescription is inside. Once she’s eaten, she can take the medicine."

He gave a kind smile and added, "I’ll come around later to check on her progress. Sir Ford, I’ll also need to have a quick word with you when you’re done spending time with her."

Ford didn’t look away from Elena as he replied, "That’s alright." His voice was low, almost distracted, as his eyes remained locked on her face. He seemed to be studying her every expression, as if afraid she might disappear if he blinked.

Doctor Charles gave a respectful bow before turning toward the door. The nurse followed behind him quietly, giving the couple a small smile before exiting.

As the door closed gently behind them, the room grew quiet once more. The soft hum of hospital equipment was the only sound, blending with the gentle rhythm of Elena’s breathing. Ford stayed by her side, reaching out to brush her hair back from her forehead. There was so much he wanted to say, but for now, being there, making sure she was comfortable, was enough.

"James, place the food on the table," Ford instructed his driver, who had followed him into the room. James moved quickly, his footsteps quiet on the polished floor. Ford’s hand was still gently holding Elena’s, their fingers intertwined. Elena’s eyes were lowered, her cheeks slightly pink with shyness. She couldn’t bring herself to meet Ford’s gaze for long, especially with how intently he was looking at her.

Ford smiled warmly, his eyes soft and full of affection as he studied her face. Every small movement she made seemed to capture his full attention.

Lily, standing nearby with Kelvin, noticed the atmosphere growing more intimate. With a teasing grin, she nudged Kelvin. "Looks like we should leave you two alone," she said playfully. With that, the couple slipped quietly out of the room, giving Ford and Elena their space.

James set the food down carefully on the side table, then turned to Ford and gave a respectful bow before quietly exiting the room. As the door clicked shut behind him, silence fell again.

Elena’s fingers trembled slightly in Ford’s hand. She was happy—truly happy—but still shy to be alone with him. The closeness, the warmth of his presence, made her feel nervous and cherished all at once.

"I’m happy," Ford said, his voice gentle, a bright smile spreading across his face. "I finally feel at peace."

Elena looked up at him, smiling shyly, her heart full.

"It’s time for you to eat. I know you must be starving," Ford said, his tone suddenly more energetic. "This reminds me of when I was in the hospital and you brought me food. Now it’s my turn to feed you. I brought hot porridge—Agnes made it especially for you. You’re going to love it."

He moved to the table, opened the food flask carefully, and served a generous amount onto a plate. The aroma of the porridge filled the room, warm and comforting. He sat beside her, holding the plate in one hand and a spoon in the other.
