Chapter 69: Pains from the past.

Elena’s eyes widened in surprise as Ford gently kissed her. A smile slowly formed on her face. Ford paused, looked at her, and whispered sweetly, "I’ve missed kissing your soft, tender lips. Why do you look so surprised? Did you miss me that much?" He teased her softly, trying to lighten the moment.

Elena blushed deeply, her cheeks turning a bright shade of red. She couldn’t help but smile at his words. Seeing her reaction, Ford leaned in again and deepened the kiss, taking control gently, while Elena allowed it. There was warmth and trust between them. As their kiss grew more intense, Ford started to feel his emotions rising. He pulled back suddenly, needing to catch his breath and calm himself down. Their foreheads touched softly, they two craved for eachother.

"You’re already in pain. Let me not stress you too much," Ford said with care in his voice, showing he was thinking about her well-being. He slowly moved away, giving her space. Elena felt shy. She lowered her head and didn’t look up. Instead, she played with her fingers, clearly embarrassed but also happy.

"You’re cute," Ford said with a soft laugh. "Why are you so shy? Do you want more of me?" He teased again, trying to make her laugh.

"Stop teasing me," Elena replied, trying to sound firm but failing to hide her smile. "Who said I was shy? And I didn’t say I wanted more..." But before she could finish, Ford leaned in again and kissed her, gently and warmly. This time, Elena wrapped her arms around his neck and held him close, enjoying the moment. They kissed for a while before slowly pulling away. They looked into each other’s eyes and smiled, full of love and understanding.

Ford leaned forward and kissed her forehead with care, then returned to his seat nearby. "I always want you to want more of me," he said sincerely. Just then, a knock came at the door.

"Who’s there?" Ford asked, while still feeding Elena, who was already full but continued to eat just to make him happy. She appreciated the effort he made to bring food for her and didn’t want to waste it.

"It’s me, Ford," a voice came from behind the door. It was Kelvin. He had knocked politely this time, remembering the last time he accidentally walked in on a private moment between Ford and Elena. He didn’t want a repeat of that.

Outside the door, Lily stood with Kelvin. She laughed quietly and said, "Do you think they’re making out again? I’m sure Ford can’t keep his hands off Elena."

"Babe... how did your mind even get there?" Kelvin asked her, surprised. Lily, ignoring his question, continued pressing her ear to the door, trying to catch any sound from inside.

"I don’t think they would be making out," Kelvin said with a calm voice as he scrolled through videos on his phone. "Ford knows she hasn’t fully recovered yet. He wouldn’t want her to get hurt." He was being thoughtful, considering Elena’s condition. His fingers paused over a video as a small smile appeared on his lips.

A playful idea crossed his mind. He leaned in close to Lily, his face near hers, his breath soft against her ear. "For you to think of something like that... do you want me that badly?" he teased with a grin. "If you wanted me, baby, you should have just said so."

Lily’s cheeks turned a rosy red as she blushed. She didn’t say a word, just looked away shyly. The two of them hadn’t had much time alone since the incident happened with Elena. Their moments together were now limited to short hugs and quiet glances. Lily missed him — missed the closeness they used to share.

Kelvin looked at her carefully, noticing the quiet sadness in her eyes. He could tell she truly longed for more time with him. He was just about to reach out and close the distance between them when Ford’s voice came from inside the room.

"Come in!" Ford called.

Kelvin looked at Lily, who gave a soft, weak smile. He returned the smile with reassurance and opened the door gently. Lily followed closely behind him.

"I wanted to give you this before I head to work," Kelvin said, handing Ford a file. "I just sent you a video too," he added as Ford took the file from him.

"What’s this all about?" Ford asked, curiosity in his voice. Elena, who had just finished eating, quietly placed the food flask back on the side stool and watched the exchange with interest.

Kelvin explained, "It’s the findings from my investigation. You asked me to check the CCTV footage around the area where the incident happened. Since Elena can’t remember who attacked her, I thought this might help."

At that, Ford quickly turned to Elena. Her eyes were focused on the file in his hands. There was a look of hope mixed with fear in her expression. Kelvin noticed it too and continued, "There’s still hope. I think that’s what Doctor Charles wanted to talk to you about."

Ford gently reached out and rubbed Elena’s cheek. His eyes showed concern and love. "I’m so sorry, baby. I’ll do everything I can to find out who did this to you," he said softly.

Elena gave a small, slow nod, her eyes holding back tears. She was touched by Fords care but she trembled. She didn’t know if she wanted to find out whom did these to her.

Ford opened the file slowly and saw a set of photographs. He looked over at Kelvin, who gave him a small nod, encouraging him to go on.

Inside were pictures taken from CCTV footage. One showed a man dressed in black, but only the side of his face was visible. Another showed a woman who seemed to be smiling, but her face was blurry and unclear.

Ford flipped through the remaining pictures in the file. When he came across one showing Elena lying on the floor, hurt and helpless, his heart ached with pain. His hands trembled slightly, and in a sudden burst of frustration, he tossed all the photographs onto the table. His face tightened with anger, his jaw clenched.

Then, one particular image caught his attention — the photo from the night he had been with Elena. It wasn’t the memory of their intimacy that drew his focus, but the masked man who had appeared in the background. This was the same man Ford had once chased. His face, however, was covered completely, making it impossible to identify him. The mask hid any features that could be used to recognize him. None of the images offered a clear view of anyone’s face. Some only showed side profiles or backs turned toward the camera.

"In all of these, not one clear face," Ford said, his voice filled with pain and disappointment. "It’s always either the side of their face or just their backs."

Elena noticed his frustration and gently rubbed his shoulder, trying to calm him. She gave a soft smile, even though she was tired.

"You didn’t look closely enough," kelvin said gently. Stepping in to explain further. "The two men dressed in black," he pointed out. "They’re not the same person. Look again. One has a different body shape. One is taller, the other shorter. And even their gloves are different styles. That means two different people were involved in trying to harm Elena."

He reached into his pocket. "I sent you a video — check it out," Kelvin said.

Ford took out his phone and opened the video. It showed the brutal attack on Elena. His face tensed as he watched the horrifying footage. The attackers were clearly violent, but again, the camera angle made it hard to see their faces. Only their backs were visible.

"Stop there," Kelvin said suddenly. Ford paused the video.

"Now zoom in," Kelvin instructed.

Ford did as told and zoomed in on the frame. There was a bag — a very familiar-looking bag — slung over the shoulder of a woman in the background. Her hairstyle also looked very familiar.

"Wait..." Ford said, leaning in closer. "Baby, have a look at this. Isn’t this Jane?" he asked, holding the iPad out toward Elena.

But Elena didn’t respond. Instead, tears rolled down her cheeks. Her eyes filled with pain as the memory of the attack overwhelmed her. Ford immediately noticed.

"Elena, are you okay?" he asked with concern, his voice soft.

"I think it’s the video," Kelvin said, stepping forward. "Doctor Charles warned us to take this slowly. Forcing her to relive the trauma could affect her recovery. She’s still healing."

Elena sniffed, wiped her eyes, and turned her back to them. "Can you take the video away, please? I want to sleep now," she said in a quiet, broken voice. She closed her eyes, hoping to block everything out.

Ford gently nodded switching of the video. "Let’s review this later," he said to Kelvin, his voice low.
