The Billionaire's Temptation: Love, Family and Revenge-Chapter 84: A shocking Call
Slowly walking over to him, Kevin tilted his head slightly, studying him for a while, smiling "Seems like you know each other quite well," Kevin said casually, though his voice carried the weight of suspicion.
Daniel lifted his eyes, trying his best to stay calm under Kevin’s sharp gaze. He could feel the pressure tightening around him. He knew Kevin had seen the exchange, and that suspicion was already blooming in his mind. He had to say something, anything to make Kelvin believe him.
Forcing a weak smile, Daniel cleared his throat. "Oh yes, sir. We ran into each other once... at a supermarket," he lied, hoping the simple explanation would be enough to erase Kevin’s doubt.
But the look on Kevin’s face didn’t soften. It was clear he didn’t believe a single word.
Kevin slowly moved closer to Daniel, his eyes sharp and observant. Leaning in so only Daniel could hear him, he whispered in a low, thoughtful voice, "Hmm... I think it was more than that." His tone was calm, but the hidden meaning behind his words sent a wave of panic through Daniel’s chest. After leaving that hanging thought, Kevin straightened his back and walked out of the room without looking back.
The moment Kevin was gone, Daniel let out a shaky breath, as if he had been holding it the entire time. His heart was racing and his palms felt sweaty. He knew he was in serious trouble. Kevin’s words weren’t just casual , they were a warning. Daniel feared what might happen if Kevin found out the truth. The thought of Kevin reporting everything to Ford his boss, made him even more nervous.
He regretted then why he didn’t just leave earlier on. As the police cars drove toward their next stop, Daniel sat stiffly in the back seat. When the vehicle slowed down in front of a grand, familiar mansion, his eyes widened in complete shock. He recognized the place instantly , it was Elena’s father’s house. In that moment, everything made sense to him. The reason the police had joined them, the serious mood, and Kevin’s behavior , Jane had been the target all along.
She had been caught.
For a brief moment, Daniel thought about walking away, pretending not to be part of the situation, but he knew that would only make things look suspicious. No matter how much he wanted to avoid it, he was already involved, and there was no way out.
He tried to keep his head down, hoping Jane wouldn’t notice him, but it was too late , her tear-filled eyes had already seen him. Shaking his head in regret and fear, he let out a deep sigh and hurried to catch up with the others.
Meanwhile, back at the house, Jane’s mother collapsed onto the floor in tears as the police officers drove her daughter away. Grief and panic took over her, and she rushed inside the house. With trembling hands, she grabbed her phone and quickly dialed her husband’s number. After a few rings, he finally answered.
Through heavy sobs, she cried out, "You need to Come back home! Jane has been taken by the police , she’s been arrested!" Her voice was filled with heartbreak and desperation
"What!? When did this happen?" he asked, completely shocked by his wife’s words. His voice was filled with disbelief, and his heart started to pound faster. He couldn’t believe what he had just heard.
"Just now!" his wife replied, her voice shaking with anger and tears. "I suspect Ford is behind this. I’m sure he did it. You have to book the earliest flight back home, right now. My daughter cannot spend even one night in a prison cell!" She was crying, but there was also frustration and helplessness in her voice. The thought of her daughter, locked away and alone, broke her heart.
"Calm down. I’m already on my way. I’ll call Mr. Lugard and find out what’s going on," he said quickly, trying to ease her pain, even though he himself was filled with worry and confusion. As soon as he finished speaking, the call ended.
Jane’s mother didn’t waste a single second. The moment the call was over, she rushed out of the room, her mind spinning with fear and questions. She grabbed her car keys from the table without even thinking and hurried out of the house. Her only focus was to get to her daughter as fast as she could. Her heart felt heavy, and tears kept rolling down her cheeks, but she wiped them away and kept going, She needed to be with her daughter.
Meanwhile, Sia was in her own room, pacing back and forth like a trapped animal. Her phone was tightly clutched in her hand, and her mind was full of fear and guilt. She had just watched the news, and the moment she saw the report, her heart sank. A strong, uneasy feeling had taken over her, and she couldn’t shake it off. Deep inside, she believed that Ford had finally found her out. She remembered the way he had warned her before, and now it felt like his warning had come true.
She had been trying to contact the reporter she had worked with for the scandal, but each time she dialed his number, the same thing happened, his phone was switched off. Her stomach twisted with anxiety. She had even switched to a different network, hoping maybe the problem was with her service, but no matter how many times she called, his phone remained unreachable.
Frustration grew stronger with each failed attempt. She searched for his number again, scrolling through her contacts with shaky hands. Once more, she dialed the number, praying it would ring this time, but it didn’t. The call couldn’t go through. Feeling completely defeated, she angrily threw her phone onto the bed.
Sia sat down and buried her face in her hands. Doubt and fear battled inside her mind. She wondered aloud, "Should I call him?" The question hung in the air. She was torn between needing to know the truth and being too afraid to face it. If Ford knew it was her who had planned the scandal, she knew there would be serious consequences. But if he didn’t know, she had to make sure it stayed that way.
She sat there in silence, feeling trapped, her heart pounding, as she tried to decide what to do next.
After a long moment of fear and confusion, she slowly changed her mind. Gently, she sat back down on the edge of her bed. Lowering her head, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, hoping for the best. Her heart was still heavy with worry, but there was nothing else she could do at that moment except wait and hope.
Meanwhile, Ford had just returned to his office. The moment he stepped inside, he walked straight to his chair and sat down heavily, his face tense with anger. The woman’s question at the conference had caught him off guard and triggered emotions he had worked hard to bury. He clenched his fists for a moment, then forced himself to breathe deeply, trying to calm down.
Though the question had upset him, a small part of him felt proud. He had managed to control his emotions in front of the crowd and deliver a strong and clear speech, despite the uncomfortable situation. That little success gave him some comfort as he sat there trying to push the stress away. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
But just as he was starting to relax, the phone on his desk rang. It was the butler, which surprised Ford. It was unusual for the butler to call him at that hour, especially when he was at the office. His brows pulled together as he answered the call.
"Why the call? Is there any problem?" he asked, his voice sharp but curious.
On the other end, the butler, Morgan, sounded nervous and unsure. "Emm... Sir Ford, it seems like Miss Elena is leaving the house," Morgan said, his voice low and filled with fear, as if he was scared to deliver the news.
Ford’s expression immediately changed, his mind racing.
"What? Why" he thundered in confusion, standing from his chair, his heart pounding hard in his chest after hearing the butler’s shaky voice. The thought of Elena leaving without a word, and at such an odd hour, stirred a mix of anger and worry inside him. He was just about to grab his coat when something unusual caught his eye.
There, on his desk , neatly folded and lying right on top of some documents , was a small piece of paper. Ford froze. He was sure it hadn’t been there when he entered the office earlier .Slowly, he reached for it, his fingers careful and alert, as if expecting it to bite.
Unfolding the paper, his eyes narrowed as he read the short, sharp message written in bold black ink:
"You can’t protect her forever."
His stomach tightened. The handwriting was unfamiliar, but the words were clear and they weren’t just written to scare him. They were a direct warning.
For a long moment, Ford stood silently in the room, gripping the note so tightly the paper almost tore. His mind raced with questions. Who had entered his office? When? How had they managed it without anyone noticing? And most importantly, what did they mean by her?
Though he had no proof, his thoughts immediately turned to Elena. If someone wanted her, this was a sign that they were close, and she was about leaving. His hands clenched into fists as his protective instincts kicked in.
Without another second to waste, Ford grabbed his phone, dialing Morgan back. "Don’t let her leave. Do you hear me? Stall her. Lock the gates if you must," he ordered, his voice sharp and full of urgency.
