Chapter 341: Consumed By Pain (Shadow)

Shadow watched as Emily and Kaiden left together, and he decided to give them the privacy they very much needed and deserved.

Shutting down his emotions that were trying to make him change his mind, he decided to return to the Night Valley, the city of nightwalkers/vampires, to take care of some businesses and clan stuff that had been left pending for a while as he had been busy.

He teleported straight to his office in the tallest tower of Blood Mansion which was filled with darkness in his absence, resonating with the feelings buried deep inside him.

He barely needed to do anything more than just think about it and the office immediately lit up in dim lights. And while his eyes could easily see clearly through the darkness, he had gotten used to the lights because of Emily.

Taking off his outer coat, he placed it on the back of his chair before taking a seat on it. Just one look at the pile of files sitting on his desk and waiting for him, had him sighing in unhappiness.

However, he needed distractions to keep himself from thinking about Emily - the hardest thing anyone could ever ask from him.

Thankfully, he was pulled out of his thoughts when he heard a knock on the office door, informing him of the presence of his three children1 - Irene, Ralph, and Lauren.

"Come in." He allowed them entry while he opened the first file from the pile.

The three senior Blood Guards entered the office one after the other with Irene in the lead. Once all three of them were standing in front of Shadow’s desk, they all greeted him formally with a deep bow - "Sire!"

"How’s been everything going on here in my absence?" Shadow asked after he accepted their greetings with a warm nod, something he had only started doing recently when Emily pointed out just how coldly he treated everyone else that wasn’t her.

"Don’t worry, Sire, everything has been going smoothly these past months. We also didn’t detect any rogue movements recently, and there have been no trouble in the city either." Irene being the head of the Blood Guards provided the report.

Shadow nodded his in acknowledgement of the report but his mind was busy analyzing the situation. It wasn’t weird at all that things had been going very smoothly in the Night Valley and in the nearby surroundings even during his absence, but for some reason he couldn’t feel relaxed.

"Ask your team to double check everything, all the movements inside and around the city. Also, tighten the security around Alessandros, Sullivans and Evans. Make sure nothing goes missing from your eyes." His command was crystal clear and none of the three questioned his orders even once. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

"Yes, Sire." Irene responded with another deep bow as she took her leave and walked out of the office to work on the new orders.

"Sire, it has been a while since you last fed..."

Ralph trailed off mid-sentence when Shadow looked up at him. The latter could tell just how much courage it had took on the former’s part to say the words out loud.

"Go ahead and prepare it." He told Ralph and watched as both the men’s (Ralph and Lauren) lit up immediately in pleasant surprise.

"Yes, Sire!"

And just like that, another one of Shadow’s children left to complete another task for him.

That left only Lauren behind who decided to help Shadow with all the files that had been waiting for the latter’s approval.

As minutes passed, Shadow got buried in work.

Ralph was the first one to return with a glass and a bottle of wine which obviously contained a high amount of human blood in it.

However, before Shadow could have taken a single sip of the blood wine, he felt a sharp tug in his heart that had the pen slipping from between his fingers as his body suddenly went still which his mind buzzed as unclear images started popping up out of nowhere.

The pain only intensified with each passing second, blurring his vision and senses while taking him with complete surprise.

"Sire!"

The moment Lauren shouted in alarm and Ralph rushed toward him, Shadow finally got the first clear glimpse of the images that were trying to push themselves into his mind. His whole body froze and so did his mind, and it took him a while to pull himself together enough to order the two men to leave.

"Leave."

"But Sire..."

"LEAVE!"

The office became dead silent after Shadow’s powerful command that left Ralph and Lauren with no other choice but to leave the office immediately.

The very second the door of the Office shut closed and got locked with an automatic spell, Shadow’s body gave up and he stumbled down from his chair and on the floor.

The pain was getting so intense with every passing moment that Shadow started losing all his control over his powers and body which made it almost impossible for him to stop the scenes that were playing through his mind, forcing him to watch them and feel even more sorrow.

He watched Emily and Kaiden together in latter’s private quarters, being intimate and finally giving themselves to each other.

He was forced to feel all their happiness while the only thing he felt was pain, sadness, and helplessness.

His soul cried as he watched his mate with someone else and his body experienced his soul’s pain. Everything was so painful that he almost felt like he was on the verge of dying.

Besides, the darkness stored inside him wasn’t helping his situation at all. It was only making things worse for him.

Shadow had no idea for how long he lay there on the hard and cold floor while dark energy engulfed him completely, cutting off all his senses except for that of feeling. The pain took over him completely and tortured him throughout the long night that seemed way too long to him for the very first time.

The only things he remembered was the pain and darkness... nothing else!

Shadow was the one who turned Irene, Ralph, and Lauren into vampires. So, they are considered his children while he’s their Sire (father).
