The Broken Halo-Chapter 319: Ambitions
Simon finally understood why demons who actually have good backgrounds that were comparable to or even higher than the Shadowgrave Clan, would choose to attend its academy and not the other elite academies.
The Shadowgrave Clan was not like other academies which had other paths of power for students to climb.
The Shadowgrave Clan was solely an assassin clan, and despite the fact that it was an elite academy and clan, it was limited path and a path that was not suited for every demon.
’Hmm. At least I’ve satisfied my curiosity now.’
He looked at Akaza.
"I guess those are all the questions I have regarding that."
Akaza shook his head slightly.
"You’re a strange one."
Simon’s lips curled up slightly.
"You’ll say that quite often."
Akaza tilted his head slightly.
"Quite often? Are you insinuating that this relationship will continue? Don’t forget that it’s because of the poison I’m still working for you."
"I don’t like you."
Simon chuckled at Akaza’s words.
"Akaza. What is your dream? What is your ambition?"
Akaza frowned, and a confused expression could be seen on his face.
"Why are you asking these questions?"
Simon’s lips curled up slightly behind his mask.
"Because I want to know if I should keep you by my side, Akaza."
Akaza’s expression became extremely dark, and a threatening aura began to leak out from him into the room.
"You want me to remain your slave for a very long time?"
Simon released a sigh, then he shook his head slightly.
"That’s not what I mean, Akaza."
He paused briefly.
"I have ambitions, Akaza. Great ambitions... I want to become a Demon King, and-"
Before Simon could even finish his sentence, Akaza burst into a loud laughter.
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!"
Akaza’s laugh was so loud that those who were four doors away from Simon’s room could hear his laughter.
Simon was not pissed or angry. He was indifferent, and he calmly waited for Akaza to finish his laughter of mockery and disbelief.
Some seconds later, Akaza wiped the tears in his eyes and controlled his breathing.
"I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard."
Akaza shook his head, then he peeked at Simon while wiping the tears from his eyes.
He wanted to see if Simon was angry that he laughed or if he was portraying any emotion, but all he saw was indifference and he could not help but click his tongue.
"How boring."
He shook his head, inhaled and exhaled deeply, then he spoke.
"Do you know how high your ambition, madness, and foolishness has to be for you to say that you want to become a Demon King?"
"Don’t let me even get started on the fact that you don’t even have a Royal Bloodline. You only have a Common Bloodline, not even a Noble Bloodline."
"Sure, you may be talented and powerful because the difference in the lower major ranks are not so wide and unfathomable, but when it comes to Greater Demons and above, you’ll see just how wide and unfathomable the gap is."
"You want to become a Demon King?"
Scoff!
"Nearly every demon has the same ambition, but one’s bloodline, talent, resources, and a lot of other things are factors one cannot ignore."
"Like as if becoming a Demon King is so easy."
Simon was silent and did not give an immediate response to Akaza’s words.
Akaza was very right to say those words, but for Simon, he immediately noticed a problem.
’He might never become a Demon King.’
Many demons and even humans don’t know, but there was one thing that was very important if one wanted to become a Demi-God or a Demon King.
Mindset.
One has to have the mindset that it was possible for them to become a Demon King or a Demi-God.
And one has to believe that they could do it irrespective of the odds.
It was something that many always ignored, and even some of Simon’s friends in his past life did not have the mindset or belief that they could become Demi-Gods.
It was one of the things that held them back.
’If he’s not careful, he might not reach his full potential.’
Right now, Simon was wondering if he should invest in Akaza or if he should make Akaza a disposable tool.
He had already lost Thorgan because of an unfortunate situation. Losing Akaza who also had a Royal Bloodline would be a shame.
’I’ll observe him more, then I’ll come to a decision. His mentality can be changed with enough time and manipulation.’
He knows that changing Akaza’s mentality would take time, and one of the reasons why it would take a lot of time is because his goal is not just to become a Demon King.
He wants to become a Demon God... A True Demon God.
And if Akaza was going to stay by his side, he would need the mentality of a mountain.
A calculating glint flashed in his eyes as he looked at Akaza, then he spoke.
"But you know that I can improve my bloodline, right? With time, my talent would rise."
Akaza scoffed without hesitation.
"The resources to improve one’s bloodline are extremely expensive. If you think they are stones and pebbles you can pick up on the road, then you’re in for a surprise."
Simon shook his head with slight disappointment in his eyes.
"You still underestimate me."
Akaza looked at him with a frown.
Simon nonchalantly shrugged. "Anyway, with time, you might change your mind about following me."
Akaza raised a brow. "I highly doubt that."
Simon shrugged in a manner that said "oh well."
There was silence for a moment, then Simon spoke.
"By the way, you never told me what your ambition is. What do you want to become?"
Akaza’s lips curled up slightly into a teasing smirk.
"A demon king."
Simon’s lips could not help but twitch.
"Very good."
Akaza laughed, then he released a soft sigh.
"Well, let’s just say that I want to become the leader of the Martial Clan and I want the Martial Clan to become the Martial Kingdom."
Simon smiled. "Not bad."
