The Cat-Like Miss Preston: Mr. CEO begs for Reconciliation!-Chapter 115: Not That Kind of Behavior!
Chloe Preston was taken aback. "What?"
Donovan Xavier held her closely, careful not to press against her stomach, and said in a deep voice, "Don’t play dumb with me. I’m asking you, is there another man in your heart?"
Chloe Preston didn’t understand why he would suddenly ask this and replied, "No, there isn’t."
"You’re lying to me." Donovan Xavier’s eyes were slightly red as he stared directly at her.
Chloe Preston didn’t shy away from his gaze and met his eyes. "I’m not lying to you. Why would you suddenly ask that?"
Donovan Xavier held her in his arms, lowered his head, and kissed her rosy lips. "Then tell me, have you only ever loved me?"
Chloe Preston’s face turned slightly red.
But when Donovan saw her remain silent, he furrowed his brows. "Why aren’t you talking? Am I not the only one you’ve ever loved?"
"Yes, yes, yes."
Chloe Preston broke free from his embrace, her cheeks blushing scarlet. With her back to him, she said softly, "Of course... I’ve only ever loved you."
What’s wrong with him today? First he was cold to me, then he tried to appease me, and now he’s asking these strange questions. He’s being so weird.
When Donovan Xavier heard this, his dark eyes flickered. He stepped closer, stood behind her, and leaned down. Reaching out with a large hand, he found her fingertips, grasped them tightly, and intertwined their fingers.
His palm was warm, a heat that spread all the way to her heart.
"Donovan Xavier..." Chloe Preston stopped struggling, allowing him to hold her as she called his name softly.
Donovan Xavier buried his head in the crook of her neck, his breath hot against her skin. His thin lips parted slightly. "Chloe Preston, I believe you. Promise me you’ll always love me. This lifetime, love only me, okay?"
Chloe Preston nodded helplessly. "Mmm, if I don’t love you, who else could I love?"
Donovan Xavier was very satisfied with this answer. His mood instantly brightened, and he smiled slightly. "Of course. After all, I’m so charming, Miss Quinn couldn’t bear to leave me."
Chloe Preston pouted. "Narcissist."
Donovan Xavier’s lips curled up in a faint, lingering smile as he asked, "Now, are you still planning to sleep in a separate room?"
"I remember I said that even if we fight, we can’t sleep in separate rooms or beds."
Chloe Preston crossed her arms and huffed lightly. "You’re the one who gave me the cold shoulder this morning. I’ll be watching your performance. If you make me angry again, I will sleep in a separate room."
Donovan Xavier leaned closer, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Performance? Fine. I’ll be sure to put on a good performance. I guarantee Miss Quinn will be more than satisfied."
As he spoke, he grasped her slender wrist and started leading her toward the bed.
Chloe Preston panicked, saying with a mix of shame and indignation, "Donovan Xavier, where is your mind going? Not that kind of performance!"
Donovan Xavier paused. He leaned over, whispering in her ear as he blew a warm puff of air. "If not that kind, then what kind? Why don’t you tell me, Miss Quinn?"
Chloe Preston shot him a reproachful glare that held a hint of pleading. "I was exhausted last night. If you keep this up, I won’t be able to take it."
Donovan Xavier knew she was pregnant and would never actually cross the line. He was only teasing her with his words.
He lowered his gaze to the bags, large and small, on the floor and said, "Chloe Preston, put your things back. Put them with mine."
"Oh."
A long while later, in the walk-in closet, the crystal chandelier shone brightly as Chloe Preston hung her clothes back in their original places, one by one.
Donovan Xavier sat on a sofa some distance away, peeling an orange for her. He patiently removed the pith, his expression serious and focused. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
The next moment, he looked up, his gaze fixed on the woman in the distance. "Chloe Preston," he asked curiously, "who is Miles?"
"Huh?"
Chloe Preston heard him, but she hadn’t quite caught what he said. She looked up. "What did you just say?"
Just as Donovan Xavier was about to speak, the crisp ring of a phone sounded from the table. It was hers.
Donovan Xavier picked it up, walked over, and handed the phone to her. "It’s for you."
Chloe Preston took it and glanced at the screen. It was a colleague from the hospital. Without a second thought, she swiped to answer. "Hello."
A woman’s frantic voice came through the phone. "Dr. Quinn, your father was just in a major car accident! He’s in the emergency room right now. You need to come to the hospital quickly!"
Chloe Preston’s grip on her phone tightened, and her pupils constricted. "What did you say?!"
"Okay, I’m coming right now!"
After a few more hurried words, the call ended.
Chloe Preston grabbed the man’s arm, her voice urgent. "Donovan, I have to go to the hospital!"
Donovan Xavier said, "Alright, I’ll take you."
...
「Twenty minutes later.」
The two of them arrived at the hospital.
Outside the operating room, Chloe Preston ran over, a dull ache starting in her abdomen. She panted, "How’s my dad?!"
Donovan Xavier steadied her.
A nurse walked over. "Dr. Quinn, they’re working on him now. Please try to be patient."
Donovan Xavier guided her to a nearby bench and helped her sit down. "You ran too fast," he asked anxiously. "Is your stomach okay? Does it hurt?"
A sheen of sweat had formed on Chloe Preston’s forehead. "I’m okay," she replied.
As they were talking, they noticed another man sitting nearby. He was dressed in a black leather jacket and had neat black hair and handsome, well-defined features.
Donovan Xavier recognized him at a glance. It was the man who had nearly knocked Chloe over at the hospital the day before.
The man’s gaze happened to be fixed on Chloe Preston. When he saw them look his way, he quickly averted his eyes.
Chloe Preston glanced at him, her brow furrowing as she pursed her lips. "You’re..."
