The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master-Chapter 33: Good Attitude
Seeing the smile on Cara Preston’s face when she returned, Vera Xavier knew she hadn’t been punished today. She wasn’t the least bit surprised. After all, in her previous life, Cara had her completely wrapped around her finger; she had only recognized Cara’s true nature as she was dying.
If Cara Preston couldn’t even handle something this minor, then she wouldn’t be Cara Preston.
Vera Xavier knew it wasn’t the right time to deal with Cara Preston yet. Her priority right now was to focus on her studies.
Juliana Taylor had been observing her discreetly. Whether she actually understood the material or not, at least from Juliana Taylor’s perspective, she was making an effort, and that was a good thing.
In the nineties, high schools had both boarding students and day students. The boarders were all students from nearby towns and villages who had tested in, while students from the city proper didn’t live on campus.
So, as soon as the eight periods of the day were over and the dismissal bell rang, all the day students got ready to go home.
After Vera Xavier packed away her textbooks, Cara Preston finished packing hers as well. She smiled and said, "Vera, let’s head home together!" 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Vera Xavier didn’t refuse her. To outsiders, their relationship had always appeared to be quite good. ’If that’s the case, I’ll just maintain this act for now.’
Vera Xavier decided she would wait for the right opportunity to rip off Cara Preston’s mask in front of everyone.
Even though one was the Preston Family’s adopted daughter and the other their biological one, in the eyes of outsiders, Cara Preston seemed more like the family’s true daughter than Vera Xavier. Until now, it seemed Cara had always been more popular than Vera, too.
After leaving the academic building, the two of them started walking back the way they had come.
It was the season for roses, and the banks of the Oldwater Canal were covered in blooms. Their elegant fragrance filled the air, a scent so pure it was refreshing to the soul.
A faint smile touched Vera Xavier’s eyes. In her previous life, her insecurity about being new to the city had caused her to miss out on so much. She had never once stopped to appreciate such beautiful scenery.
Pulling Vera Xavier along, Cara Preston chattered about one thing after another. To be blunt, she was fishing for information, trying to figure out what had happened over the last few days to make Vera’s personality change so drastically.
Vera Xavier just listened without explaining or saying much, only offering noncommittal sounds like "mhm" or "oh" in response.
Cara Preston was starting to find it a bit dull when, just then, Elise Langdon walked past them. "Cara," Elise called out, "there’s a basketball game at the gym today. Want to come watch?"
Cara Preston hesitated. "The college entrance exams are in just over a month. Is it really a good idea to go out and have fun?"
"It’s all about balance! Your grades are amazing, what’s there to be afraid of?" Elise Langdon glanced at Vera Xavier, who was standing next to Cara. "Besides, you’re not your idiotic sister. She never studies. Even if she buried her nose in a book twenty-four hours a day, she’d still fail."
She wanted to see a look of fear or embarrassment on Vera Xavier’s face, but Vera was bound to disappoint her today. From start to finish, Vera didn’t even spare her a single glance. Elise humphed.
Cara Preston said softly, "Don’t talk about my sister that way."
"You only call her sister because you’re so kind. How is she worthy of being your sister!" Elise Langdon said dismissively.
Cara Preston was still hesitating when Elise Langdon whispered, "I heard Nathaniel Nathan is back. He’s playing in the game today."
Cara Preston’s eyes immediately lit up. She turned to Vera Xavier and said, "Vera, you go on home first. Elise and I are going to pop over to the gym. We’ll be back in a little while."
Without waiting for Vera Xavier to respond, Cara Preston and Elise Langdon hailed a taxi and excitedly headed for the gym.
