The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master-Chapter 88: Not Sincere Enough
Vera Xavier turned her head to look at Nathaniel Nathan, her gaze meeting his deep eyes. Her heart skipped a beat.
He reached out and pulled her into his arms. "The principle is this," he said. "I’m the one you can rely on for the rest of your life. No matter what happens, you’ll always have a fallback. You’ll always have me."
’Vera had always thought that a man like Nathaniel Nathan wouldn’t understand romance, nor would he know how to say sweet nothings.’
’But now she realized just how ridiculously wrong she had been. When he did say something romantic, it was devastatingly effective. This sentence, at least, had hit the bullseye of her heart.’
Her eyes reddened slightly. "Okay," she said softly, "I’ll remember that."
Nathaniel Nathan reached out and caressed her face. She gave him a small smile and asked, "How’s Grandpa?"
"He’s fine," Nathaniel replied. "He had a heart attack, but since they were able to treat him right away, there aren’t any major issues. The doctor just wants to be cautious and have him stay in the hospital for a few days of observation."
Vera Xavier nodded. Nathaniel added, "After Grandpa is discharged, I’ll take him to visit your family."
Vera Xavier froze for a moment. Nathaniel continued, "I respect your decision to not publicize our relationship for now, but I can’t just stand by and watch you get bullied by those people from the Preston Family."
Vera Xavier knew what he was planning. The corners of her lips curved up, and she gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. "Thank you!"
Nathaniel Nathan froze for a second, but he reacted quickly. In one swift motion, he turned and pinned her beneath him. "Not sincere enough," he said.
Vera Xavier’s face flushed red. Nathaniel looked at her and said, "Let me teach you what a sincere ’thank you’ looks like."
Just as his lips were about to land on hers, a knock came from outside. It was Lana Cheney. "Sir, what would you like for breakfast?"
Nathaniel Nathan’s brow furrowed so deeply he looked furious. Seeing his expression, Vera stifled a laugh. He leaned close to her ear and whispered, "I’ll let you owe me this for now. We’ll pick this lesson up later."
With that, he rolled off her, got up, and opened the door. His expression was thunderous from having his fun interrupted, and it scared Lana Cheney so much she didn’t dare to breathe too loudly.
Vera Xavier stayed at the Nathan family’s home for the weekend. Although Nathaniel’s personality was a bit forceful and domineering, he was also a respectful person. Other than the first day when Vera slept in his room, she stayed in a guest room after they brought Master Nathan back home that afternoon.
Master Nathan clearly liked Vera Xavier a lot. When he heard she knew how to play games, he immediately pulled her into a game of Go.
Nathaniel called his grandfather out. "Be careful playing against Grandpa. He loves taking back his moves. You’d better set some ground rules before you start, or he’ll take back so many moves you’ll want to cough up blood."
Master Nathan shot him a glare. "You little brat, get out of here! It’s bad enough you won’t play with me, but now you’re trying to stop Vera from playing with me too? Watch it, or I’ll give you a thrashing!"
Seeing their interaction, Vera Xavier giggled to herself on the side but didn’t interrupt.
In her past life, she had spent a period of time diligently studying Go. Coupled with the fact that she was naturally clever, her match against Master Nathan was a fierce and close battle.
Nathaniel Nathan glanced at Vera Xavier with some surprise, then went to brew tea for them.
Vera Xavier soon witnessed Master Nathan’s skill at taking back moves for herself. At first, he seemed to remember that Vera was a guest and it was her first time visiting, so he restrained himself, somewhat concerned with maintaining his image as an elder.
But once he became engrossed in the game, he couldn’t hold back any longer and started taking back his moves.
