The Crimson Reaper-Chapter 77: Glutton
"THERE’S A WRINKLE ON MY FACE!"
"Shhh, quiet! He’s trying to sleep!"
Luciel slowly opened his eyes due to the commotion that managed to wake him up, followed by a loud sound that echoed around the room.
Helen slapped Alex with all her might, leaving a red mark on his face.
"Sorry..." Alex rubbed the place where he got slapped, hoping to remove the burning sensation, but to no avail.
"Huh... What’s going on?" Luciel slowly sat up, rubbing his eyes as he felt slightly dizzy from the sudden wake-up call.
"Alex has been imagining that he has a new wrinkle for the last three hours, ever since you went to sleep." Helen crossed her arms, rolling her eyes before continuing to glare at Alex.
This whole time he was asking her why this hadn’t been cleaned, why was there spilled liquid, nagged her to sort her papers and so much more. On top of all that, she had to listen to him being paranoid about getting older.
Luciel glanced at Alex before his gaze returned back to Helen, observing how her brown hair, which was most of the time tied in a high ponytail, got all messy with strands flying all over.
He found his wife pretty no matter what time of the day was, but his fan favorite was her current messy hair that needed some brushing. He found it attractive simply because it was so out of character for her.
"Hey! My looks are top priority!" Alex pointed out. After all, his only love life was he, himself, and I. If he could, he would even get married to his own portrait, but there was no such skilled artist that could draw him so flawlessly.
"Alex... Shut the hell up or I’ll turn you into a bloodhound so you won’t have to worry about your looks anymore." Luciel growled at his friend, biting the tip of his thumb with a fang to show that he wasn’t joking around.
Turning someone into a bloodhound was easy according to Nosferatu, a human just needs to drink some of the vampire’s blood, but turning a human into a vampire, that’s when things get complicated.
"No, I’m good," Alex answered, finally shutting up as he observed Luciel’s actions.
Helen didn’t want to get in between those two, in fact, she felt slightly disappointed that Luciel didn’t mess with him.
"Oh! That reminds me!" Helen exclaimed after watching her husband licking his wound before a drop of blood could fall down.
She approached the mini fridge she had in her room and tossed one, 500ml blood pack for blood transfusion at Luciel.
Luciel raised his arm and caught the blood pack with ease. He brought it closer, observing the red, thick liquid inside of it, licking his lips as his crimson eyes that were emitting a red hue became more obvious. His instincts told him to drink it all and he didn’t feel a need to resist it.
"Take it. I asked the nurse. Unfortunately, she could only give me five of them." While Luciel was sleeping, Helen made sure to try and satisfy his basic needs. She even asked the nurse for more blood, but she couldn’t give her more in case someone might need it.
Helen was aware of how gluttonous vampires could be. They were capable of drinking up to twelve liters of blood in one sitting until they would finally feel satisfied and they could still take more! 500ml was enough to make them function for five days if they didn’t use their abilities, but they would always want more.
Helen admired vampires in that regard. If all of them decided to satisfy their thirst, then humanity would be no more.
Without even taking some time to say thanks, Luciel already opened the blood bag, enjoying the sweet, caramel flavor, but it would taste better if it was warm. When he finished, he licked his lips to wipe off the drops of blood that were accidentally spilled.
One more difference that Luciel was able to notice was that he could recover only traces of Qi with the already extracted blood, unlike when drinking directly from the source. It still managed to extinguish his thirst slightly, but it just wasn’t it. He could see now why humans couldn’t reach a mutual understanding with the vampires.
Even with the blood bags, vampires would eventually turn their attention to the humans and it was the same for Luciel. He could survive like this, but sooner or later he would crave some fresh blood.
’Still disgusting.’ Alex gauged at the sight but was glad to see his friend getting adjusted to his new life instead of being depressed. In fact, he didn’t look like he only adapted but started to embrace it as he didn’t shy away from asking for more food.
"Can you give me some more?" Luciel begged with puppy eyes that were meant only for Helen.
"You had enough. I’ll give you one more after you bring me Kai." Helen replied with a stern voice. Her piercing gaze was enough to put Luciel in place.
"Fine..." Luciel rolled his eyes, feeling mildly annoyed, "What time is it anyway?"
Alex stayed quiet after Luciel’s question, not daring to look at the time. He realized that he might have fucked up a little. He completely forgot about the mission.
"It’s 9:30 pm," Helen answered, not caring about the fact that the boys were late. That’s what they get for cleaning and not setting the alarm.
"Shit... Scarlet is going to put us on fire!" Luciel quickly got up, putting on his shoes. He would rather take his wife’s wrath instead of Scarlet’s.
Alex smiled nervously, feeling smaller than a poppy seed. He knew that he messed up big time.
"Come on grandpa, hurry up." Luciel slightly pushed Alex, leading him toward the door.
"Hey! I am not a grand-" Alex stopped with his tantrum when Luciel opened the door.
Both boys froze like deers at the sight in front of them. Alex would rather pick a fight against Alukah than be here right now.
"Where were you guys?" Scarlet’s voice echoed like thunder, her gaze chilling the blood inside the veins and her threatening posture could make a baby cry.
The two’s focus was only on the demon incarnate, they didn’t even notice Melisa who was peaking behind her.
"Luciel overslept!" Alex blurted out, using Luciel as a cover.
"I overslept? Who was the guy who was busy cleaning HELEN’s room and kept worrying about phantom wrinkles?!" Luciel yelled, baring his fangs, turning around to grab his friend by the throat and pushing him forward in front of Scarlet.
Scarlet sighed as she observed the two bickering in front of her. Luciel was a nice guy to work with. Serious, skilled, and observant, the only problem was that he loved to challenge the leadership and subtly try to take over. But pair him with Alex and you get a kindergarten.
"I swear... When all of this gets over, I’ll make sure to keep you two separate for two weeks." She issued her sentence that the two would serve soon.
"Now, see what you have done?!" Alex complained, crossing his arms, refusing to look at Luciel.
"How is this my fault?!"
Having enough of this, Melisa stepped forward, hissing at the two. "Enough, Kai doesn’t have any more time to wait!"
Melisa was getting more and more impatient. They finally had a way to rescue him. And she couldn’t wait for Helen to finally save him so she could get away from this place.
"Just please take them away Scarlet..." Helen begged, placing her hands together. Alex managed to sip all life from her. She couldn’t stand him anymore...
She liked Alex, he was a good friend and he was always checking on her after Luciel’s "death." But he wasn’t a type of guy with who you could hang out all day, making her wonder how Luciel does it.
"You heard her! Let’s go boys!" Scarlet ordered, grabbing Alex by the wrist so she could pull him.
"Thank you..." She whispered toward Scarlet before her eyes fell on her love.
"Stay safe!" She waved at Luciel who waved back at her before leaving.
"Finally..." Helen sighed in relief, lying down on the bed, and spreading her arms.
She wanted a few minutes of rest before she could get back to her research.
