The Crown's Seduction-Chapter 344: Escape (1)
Chapter 344: Escape (1)
Mineah’s eyes widened as she stared at Devon slowly making himself stand upright again. Immediately, she knew that her time was up. There was no way that she’d be able to fight him off now. Not like this.
"Vulcan’s power is mine!" the demon king screamed. "You bjtch!"
Devon raised his arm to attack, to which she quickly responded by casting a divine barrier to protect herself, her husband, and her brother from the man’s assault.
"You all don’t deserve to live!"
His attack came hard and fast, and it took Mineah her all just to resist the wave of dark magic washing over her barrier. For a few seconds, she watched as her barrier buckled and shook, her reserves rapidly depleting as she waited anxiously for him to finish.
All the while, the flaming mist permeated the area after the divine dagger that pierced Nikolai’s heart slowly disappeared. The mist coalesced and hovered over Ezekiel’s body, seemingly waiting for something to happen before it eventually went into his brother’s body.
"No!" Devon growled, his voice fuming with anger. "It should’ve been mine!"
Again, Mineah felt a powerful spell crash against the barrier she created. Even before, she already felt cracks starting to form over their protection, but now, it was even worse as she did her best to hold on. Her body was simply not in the right shape to fight him right now. She still needed some time for her body to adjust to all of the empty space the chaos left in her reserves after it suddenly disappeared after her curse broke. She just couldn’t take the risk right now.
As such, she was left with no choice but to hope that Devon’s power ran out before her shield did. However, judging from the way his attack kept on coming, she couldn’t help but think that this might be where they would meet their end.
"Get out of here!"
That was until a voice pierced through the cacophony of attacks happening before her. And before she could even question what was happening, a scream of pain erupted from right in front of her.
"Arggh!"
"I’ll hold him off!" Tarah yelled out to her, her sword still sticking out of Devon’s stomach as she stabbed him from behind. "Go!"
Mineah’s eyes widened at the sight of Devon’s body being bathed in his own blood. He almost looked surprised if it wasn’t for the angry scowl currently on his face. Meanwhile, Tarah looked resolute as she buried the sword even further into his back, her blade shining red with his blood all while she was carrying a child behind her back...
Mineah frowned. She wanted badly to question Tarah about that last part, but she knew that now wasn’t the time to do so.
"You... You... Do you really think you can kill me?" Devon gasped, his hands shaking as he gripped the blade currently jutting out from his stomach. "You won’t be able to escape me because you belong to me!"
"Tarah?! What are you-"
"No time to explain!" Tarah cut her off. "I don’t know how long I can-"
But before Tarah could even begin to try and tell her what to do, Devon had already pulled himself free from her sword. He now stood at the ready, gravely injured, but still deadly.
"That hurt," he scoffed as he spat a bit of blood at Tarah’s direction. "I’ll make you pay for that."
Mineah didn’t know what to do. Devon was slowly walking towards Tarah, and she badly wanted to help her. However, she still had Nikolai and Ezekiel’s body to take care of. She couldn’t just let them die like this.
’I’m sure she’ll know what I’m planning,’ Mineah told herself as she prepared herself for a risky gamble. ’I’ll just have to buy enough time for Tarah and the child to escape from Devon.’
"You... You shouldn’t even be alive anymore if not for me," Devon growled as he stalked Tarah. "I don’t know what you’re planning, but I’ll make sure that you’re-"
"Hey!"
Both Devon and Tarah stared at Mineah as she stood defiantly on the magic carpet. Likewise, Mineah herself felt the pressure mounting as she did her best to shoot the seer a knowing glance, hoping that the other woman would get what she was trying to do.
"What’s the big idea here?" Devon scoffed at Mineah. "Do you want to die first?"
"Maybe I do," Mineah challenged with a smirk. "That’s assuming you can catch me first."
"Oh? Well then, let me take the bait then," Devon cackled. "I don’t care that you’re planning something. I just want my pound of flesh for taking what’s rightfully mine!"
Her eyes narrowing, Mineah quickly willed the carpet to move just as Devon lunged right at her. Using the carpet’s speed, they zoomed through the castle’s hallways, all while dodging Devon’s constant attacks of dark magic.
"Come back here!"
Willing her barrier to hold, Mineah did her best to both defend and steer through the castle’s winding hallways as she led Devon around in a wild chase, hoping that she’d be able to buy Tarah enough time to escape. For some reason, she was confident that Tarah knew her way out of this knowing how she also knew her way inside the castle.
"You can’t catch us even if you tried!" Mineah taunted even as her barrier began to crack again from all of the constant attacks. "You’ll never be able to get this power! Not now, not ever!"
Devon roared as he began to pick up his pace, and she could only hope that Tarah had already finished casting the portal spell once they returned. There was only so much time she could buy, and there was nothing she’d be able to do if the barrier protecting them would so much as shatter while they were flying around at high speeds.
Still, just to make sure, she should probably just risk it. "I really hope you’re already doing what I’m hoping you’re doing, Tarah!" And that was a way for them to escape. Tarah mentioned before that she would be able to create a portal for escape directed outside the borders of Helion so Mineah was hoping that it would work out so all of them could escape from this.
