Chapter 348: Dear Wife

Dahlia bit her inner lip as she stopped in her tracks just a few meters away from the secret chamber where her husband Zoran was currently staying. She didn’t know how long she stood there unmoving as she tried to reason to herself about what she was doing, but she assumed that it was longer than she should’ve taken.

Her heart and mind were still in conflict. She promised Nikolai that she wouldn’t go to Zoran until their session was finished so that their king could confirm that it was already safe for her to see Zoran on her own, she still couldn’t help but want to go to him anyway.

It was simply a struggle to stop herself, especially once she found out that Zoran went out on a mission with Nikolai to infiltrate Castle Helion. She was worried for him, even though Lady Zaila already confirmed that Zoran had returned home safe and sound. He didn’t have any major wounds, but he still used a huge amount of his inner energy, so he would need to rest before he could see anyone.

The problem for Dahlia now was that the long wait was killing her. It had been days since she last saw Zoran, and she was desperate to check on him. For some reason, she was confident that her husband wouldn’t harm her once she visited him. He showed great improvement during their last session, and that one lasted more than an hour before he had to be stopped for their own good.

"Nikolai is still unconscious," Dahlia mumbled to herself. "No one knows when he’ll wake up, but I want to see Zoran now..."

She couldn’t help but make up excuse after excuse to come and see her husband. Surely, it would be fine if she could be with him for just a brief amount of time. She already had a rough estimate of how long he could last, so all she had to do was leave before he lost himself.

Absently, she raised her arm to look at the bangle Zoran gave her. According to Zaila, it was still working, meaning it would react whenever she would be in danger. She couldn’t test it since Nikolai was always with them during their sessions and he would always hold Zoran down whenever he was losing control, but she supposed that it would turn out alright.

Dahlia took a deep breath as she gathered strength from within. Filled with unyielding determination, she nodded to herself before walking towards the door to open it without even knocking. She then walked inside the secret bedchamber, and she immediately frowned once she didn’t see Zoran inside.

"Looking for me, my wife?"

Dahlia shivered as she felt his warm breath against her ear. She could tell that he was behind her. Wife... That was the first time Zoran called her lovingly like that. It sounded so good to her ears too. He was finally acknowledging her as his wife, right?

"I truly admire your bravery and conviction. I’m sure King Nikolai strongly warned you not to come near me, and yet here you are," Zoran hoarsely whispered, his warm and seductive voice sending more shivers down her spine. Not because she was scared of him, but because of a different kind of sensation. "Are you that stubborn? Or are you just that desperate to die?"

Dahlia’s face reddened as she tried her best to compose herself before turning around to face her husband. Eventually, she managed to do so. Refusing to break eye contact with him, she confidently stated, "You will not harm me. I know that much, Zoran. Even though you’re craving for my blood, there’s no denying that you don’t want to harm me. I can feel it... and I can see it through your eyes."

Zoran didn’t respond, but he keenly stared at her as if waiting for her next move. Gulping, she added, "I’m worried. I haven’t seen you for days, and I wanted to check on you if you are well."

True to her word, Dahlia promptly looked over Zoran from head to toe to assess his appearance, checking if he looked somewhat sick or unwell. Ever since he turned into a vampire, his skin looked pale compared to before. Despite that, he was still the same dashing Zoran in her eyes.

It was what Zahlia told her as well. He was doing well. Perhaps she was just overthinking and worrying too much. Still, could they blame her? In her opinion, the thought of losing Zoran was much worse than having a blade pierce through her heart.

And it was during that thought that her very own heart suddenly skipped as Zoran touched her face while his fingers slowly trailed down her neck and collarbone. Dahlia gulped at how much his simple touch was making her whole body light up on fire. She must be going crazy right now, but she honestly hoped that Zoran would hold her more. She missed him so badly.

"I can feel your heartbeat. Do you even know the amount of control I’m exerting right now? To stop myself from not just feeding on your blood, but also taking your body, Dahlia," Zoran stated with a frown as he stared intently at her. "It’s a strange feeling for me that I still couldn’t get a full grasp of."

Dahlia stood still as she let him do what he wanted. She felt like he was staring deep into her soul, leaving her unable to hide a thing from him. The corner of his lips then tugged up as he leaned closer, and she froze when she felt his lips brush against the skin in between her neck and collarbone.

"So tempting... Your blood scent is drawing me closer," he painfully groaned. "I want to suck on it and have a taste."

"Why not?" she couldn’t help but challenge.

She didn’t mind. In fact, she was more than fine with feeding her own husband. She had done it before every full moon with Nikolai, so she was used to getting bitten and giving her blood.

Blinking, Zoran backed down, his face dark as he spoke. "Fritz told me that you used to feed the King with your blood every full moon. Is that why you’re this confident?" he questioned. "Are you not afraid that the same incident will happen? Nikolai drained you to death last time, and I might end up draining you too..."

"You won’t. I will push you away once I feel that you’re drinking too much," Dahlia insisted. "I’m also wearing the bangle you gave me on my wrist, Zoran. This will protect me once my body encounters danger, and you’re not an exception from the powerful protective spell you put on it."

She knew she was taking a risk by encouraging this behavior. Still, they haven’t tried this method yet, but what if having a taste of her blood would help Zoran with his plight and struggle from her blood? They could always see what would happen.

Zoran growled in front of her, and Dahlia felt like she was losing the air in her lungs when he suddenly wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer to him. Their faces were so close at that moment that just a little bit of movement would be enough to make their lips touch.

’For goodness sake, we’re already married!’ Dahlia inwardly retorted. This was ridiculous. Couldn’t she just kiss him whenever she wanted?

Kicking away all inhibitions left in her body, Dahlia made a daring move and leaned in until their lips brushed against each other. Immediately, she felt Zoran’s body tense up, and she took that opportunity to comfortably snake her arms around his neck.

This wasn’t their first kiss, but since Zoran couldn’t remember her, she would just love to let him have a new memory of kissing her lips! She was probably still a lousy kisser, but feeling Zoran’s lips against hers encouraged her to deepen their kiss anyway. In fact, she was rejoicing inside when she felt how hungrily he was kissing her back.

She couldn’t help but let out a few muffled moans into his mouth as he took her breath away. Her knees wobbled as they suddenly felt too weak to support her if not for Zoran’s firm hold around her waist. By the time Zoran broke the kiss, she was panting for air before she let out another round of moans as peppered her jawline with kisses. He lovingly licked her skin, and she even felt him suckling on it as she closed her eyes to enjoy the sensations.

Unfortunately, her eyes shot open when Zoran suddenly pushed her away. Her body almost slumped to the floor, but her bangle gave her just enough energy to keep herself upright. She watched as he distanced himself away from her and said, "Leave, now!"

Getting up on her feet, Dahlia blinked as she called out to him. "Zoran..."

"I said leave!" he repeated. "Are you deaf?! Go, now!"

She gasped when she finally saw him eye to eye. His eyes were red, and his fangs were elongating as if ready to pounce on her.

Understanding the situation, she practically ran out of the bedchamber. By the time she made enough distance away from him, she was panting hard as she stopped herself from running. Despite this, a beautiful smile curved itself into Dahlia’s lips as her face reddened. Zoran could control himself well beforehand, so she could definitely check on him whenever she wanted to from now on.
