Chapter 413: Engagement chaos (4)

"Get up. You poisoned...poisoned my..." Bai Yingtai slapped himself awake, "brother."

Hou Guangxi stormed. "How dare you hit my son!"

Bai Yingtai frowned. "Speak slowly..."

Meng Rin was dumbfounded as his figure loomed over her.

He’s...he’s here too...

Hou Tengqi trembled hard. The humiliation at this point was beyond his tolerance capacity.

"Tengqi!" Hou Huan rushed to him and held his cheek, horrified. She bit her lip until it threatened to bleed and cast an unsettling gaze at Bai Yingtai.

"How dare you..."

"How dare your family poison my brother?" He tilted his head.

Everybody was stunned.

Brother?

Some of the guests, who were also present at the charity event, still remembered Bai Yingtai crystal clear - the same man who apparently assaulted Meng Rin and then sent Hou Tengqi into an almost comatose state.

"He is Bai Caishen’s brother!?"

"That man who allegedly assaulted Meng Rin?"

A wave of dizziness spread in the air. Not in the wildest imagination did anyone assume for Bai Caishen and the assaulter to have a familial relationship.

Bai Yingtai’s brows furrowed. "I didn’t assault her. I just slept on her bed. It was very fluffy..." his gaze looked dreamy.

"Boss...I think the bed is calling me..."

Jia’s mouth twitched.

Mingshen smiled. "Trust me, I’ll make the hell call you very soon if you keep deviating from the topic - a very important topic of your brother’s life I should think so."

Hou Delan said, "Just slept on the same bed? Isn’t that the same as barging in someone’s room without permission?"

"Is that so?" He yawned. "I still got a good sleep."

"How dare you show your face here...?" Hou Tengqi shook hard, fury palpitating through his veins.

Bai Yingtai stared at him. "I just said you poisoned my brother...Did you not hear that? Oh. But then again..."

He took a step closer, Hou Tengqi suddenly looking too small in front of his massive frame.

"You never seem to listen properly. Whether now or that evening when you wanted to hit your fiance..."

He froze hard. His words fell in everybody’s ears and once again, a wave of shock rippled through everybody.

"Hou Tengqi wanted to hit his fiance?"

Hou Huan’s face only got worse with every passing second. Bai Yingtai’s sudden entry had thankfully shifted the focus away from Hou Jielun but now her other son came into the crossfire.

"I knew it!" Chow Mey exclaimed. "You were abusing her all this time! That is why Rinrin stopped talking to us. She started to distance herself from us. She even wanted to break up with you but you didn’t allow her to!"

"What nonsense are you spouting?" His rage went through the roof. "Just because you are Rinrin’s guest, you expect me to tolerate your crap?"

"Hah! I have all the proof you need! Caishen and my chats with her are more than enough to tell her tragedy. You were so possessive of Rinrin that she couldn’t even breathe with you...Do you want me to show to the whole world what Rinrin actually had to say about?" She sneered.

He froze and threw a stare towards Meng Rin. He could deny all he wanted that she never asked for a breakup but there was no way he could deny it to himself.

"Oh my God..." Chow Mey sniffled. "I understand now. Rinrin asked for a breakup and that’s why you poisoned Caishen! Your jealous ego definitely thought that she wanted to break up with you because of Caishen, right? So this is where you decide to take revenge!"

Bai Yingtai’s eyes narrowed. "I thought you poisoned my brother because you wanted to take revenge from me. A person like you..." his eyelids were feeling heavy, "must have easily come to know that we are brothers."

Everybody gasped.

"Oh my God. So Mr. Hou had two reasons to target Bai Caishen?"

Unfortunately for Hou Tengqi, both reasons were equally solid and valid as his motivation to harm Bai Caishen.

Jia looked at Meng Rin. "Miss. Meng. Is it true what Miss. Chow is saying? Was Mr. Hou an abusive partner? Did he hit you?"

In an instant, Meng Rin felt seething gazes from Hou Tengqi’s parents as if warning her to not utter something unnecessary. This was her chance to break free from Hou Tengqi’s shell but she still felt afraid.

What if this plan fails? What if she would end up going back to Hou Tengqi’s side? What if he could easily quash this chaos and things would go back to how it was?

If it did, then her rebellion from now would only make her life more miserable. Her hands went cold and small beads of sweat formed on her forehead. Her heart hammered against her chest.

But she slowly looked up, feeling a shadow over her. For some reason, Bai Yingtai’s eyes didn’t look drowsy to her as they stared at her. They were quiet yet deafening at the same time as if saying that this was the time to show strength.

Tears pooled in her eyes and a vague sense of relief washed over her heart. Chow Mey was there with her, Yang Bingqing stood by her side and now Bai Yingtai, who was towering over her as if he wouldn’t let a single person even approach her shadow, much less hurt her.

Her lips parted. "Yes...Hou Tengqi has h-hit me and threatened me..."

Her gaze caught Bai Yingtai’s fingers curling into a fist as the light in his eyes turned several shades darker.

Enter Yang Bingqing once again, who thoroughly poured oil into the burning fire.

"Oh my gosh, I cannot believe this! Just look at how poor Meng Rin is shaking so much! Just how much have you tortured her all this time?" She sniffled.

Hou Tengqi burst out like a ball of fire. "Rinrin, that’s not true and you know that! It’s all that damn actor, right? He manipulated you to speak against me like this, right? Don’t worry Rinrin...I won’t let him use you-"

He approached Meng Rin to get closer to her, but a firm palm on his chest stopped him in his tracks. His teeth clenched as he glared daggers at Bai Yingtai.

"What the hell are you doing?"

"Stay where you are."

"Get the hell out of my way!"

"Speak softly. I don’t like loud voices...or I can make you live that experience again."
