Chapter 292: They want you to abdicate

"Wow, it seems like you finally got a hang of the problem." Bree rolled her eyes and turned to walk over to the small tea table where the maids had placed a jug of orange juice for her. She poured a glass of juice for herself and then went to take a sip when she heard Ahmar say behind her,

"Then it stands to reason that in order to keep her suppressed and fighting you, you need to get stronger. You need to be perfect when it comes to self-control. I don’t doubt that it’s great, given how your temper is quick to flare, but you can always get better, your majesty. And I can help you with that."

"How?" Bree paused in her actions, and her hand stopped mid-air as she turned to look at the man behind her. He was standing there, looking perfectly polite and calm with his hand resting on his lower abdomen, with his head lowered.

Ahmar stepped forward and walked over to where she was standing. He slowly began to circle her and said in a low voice, "I am going to train you. I am going to give you the same training that I give to my enforcers. It is going to be hard as hell, your majesty. There will be times when you will want nothing more than to use your powers to burn me alive, but I assure you that if you hold on, then you will be able to get better."

That comment made her frown. "Can I ask you a question?"

"Sure, my love."

The endearment and the intensity with which he was looking at her made a tingle run down her spine. "Why do you think this is going to work for me? Maybe it will not work for me. Just because control worked for you doesn’t mean that it is going to work for me, too."

"Maybe if you come to the training grounds, then maybe, just maybe, you will be able to see how it might be able to be of help to you?" he then leaned closer and whispered against her lips, "But that is due to the fact of whether you are up to it or not?" It was more of a dare than just a question. "As I told you, it will not be easy, but it will make you stronger. It all depends on whether you want to keep fighting your dragon or whether you want to get stronger and stop acting like a quitter."

And before she could say a thing to him, Ahmar spun on his feet and strode right out of the room.

"You bastard—"

Bree watched his disappearing back and gritted her teeth. She was furious but couldn’t retort because the man was absolutely correct. Her fists clenched and unclenched before she ran her hand through her hair, looking clearly frustrated.

She felt annoyed with how things were slipping out of control. As far as Bree knew, she was supposed to return home after the male leads of this book fell in love with the female lead. But —

"Arghhh! My head will go all haywire with the twists and turns that are happening!" Bree scrunched her hair, feeling more and more frustrated with the current situation. She should be back home living a life of comfort, not trying to fucking fight a battle against drugs and dragons.

Hand still scrunched in her hair, she muttered, "I should take a walk in the garden. That will help me a little."

Bree could feel her head thumping and felt a bit uncomfortable and stuffy. In her world, she was just a normal office worker, but here? Here she was, the empress of the beasts, and that was not all; her life was at risk all the time along with the throne. If she didn’t come up with a plan to deal with this mess soon, she was worried that maybe—just maybe—she would end up getting entangled in a mess that she might never be able to come out of.

And what made things even worse was?

That she couldn’t even wrap her head around these many responsibilities. She had worked harder than ever to make sure that things would run without any worries in this land but—

Bree closed her eyes and rubbed her forehead before changing her clothes and heading outside. Whatever, she was going to think about these things later on. First, she needed to do something about her headache.

"Heard you got into a big mess last night, your majesty," a teasing voice echoed from the top of a tree, and Bree raised her head to look at the little siren who had his leg hooked around the branch and was looking down at her. His fingers were gripping an apple as he took a bite from it. "Lady Eve is still going around the streets telling how you nearly killed her, and her brothers are filing complaints one after another. I believe that you will receive a lot of memorandums in court tomorrow morning."

Bree’s eyes widened in shock. "How do you know so much?"

It happened last night, and it was barely noon, how come the rumours were already spreading all over the place?

"How come you are asking such a silly question, your majesty?" Cian asked with another bite of the apple. "There are countless people, including the father of Lady Eve; how can they lose this opportunity to discredit you even further? They are now saying that you have gone feral and are incapable of taking care of the throne; they want you to abdicate."

Bree let out a curse. When she came here, she wanted to take a breather, not receive even more bad news. She ran her hand through her dark locks before spinning around on her feet. She needed to talk to Yakov and see what exactly was going on.

But before she could walk away, her wrist was caught and she was pulled back.
