41: Chapter 41 Wild Persimmons in the Mountains (1)_1
Si Ya looked at Pei Qin with some stuffy resentment, blaming her for calling them out only to end up on the mountain, with nothing to eat and having to spend the night there.
Pei Qin handed a lighter to Lady Fang, “You should gather some dry grass around here to make a bed, and get some dry firewood.
If there’s still time, collect some stones too!
I’ll go see if there’s anything edible!” She reached out and grabbed San Ya by the back of her collar, signaling for San Ya to accompany her.
San Ya quickly agreed, “Oh!
I’ll go with my eldest sister!”
Lady Fang was worried, “Qinqin!
The mountain isn’t safe, don’t go too far!”
“Don’t worry!” Pei Qin didn’t turn back, she just waved her hand at her.
Seeing that she wasn’t asked to join, Si Ya was feeling sulky, and she complained to Lady Fang about what they were going to eat today and how they were going to get by on the mountain.
San Ya, with her sweet nature, followed behind Pei Qin, anxiously asked, “Eldest sister!
What will we find to eat?”
“Let’s look for some wild fruit, wild game,” Pei Qin broke off two branches to make clubs, handing one to San Ya to bolster her courage, and picked a pocketful of small stones, heading deeper into the forest.
After walking for quite an hour, they hadn’t encountered the clumsy pheasants and dumb rabbits that Pei Qin had imagined.
“Looks like we’re not having meat today!” Pei Qin put her hands on her hips, looking up at a persimmon tree on the mountain wall.
“Eldest sister!
They’re persimmons!
And they’re ripe!” San Ya looked on delightfully.
“Come on!
You catch them below, I’ll climb the tree!” Pei Qin called to her, then they went around the mountain wall and climbed on top.
The two of them arrived beneath the persimmon tree, and Pei Qin, after testing it, quickly climbed up.
Since the persimmon tree was rather slender, Pei Qin’s climbing made it sway and wobble precariously.
It made San Ya tense up with nervousness.
Pei Qin was the best at fighting and climbing trees, she had tested it before climbing; as long as she didn’t jump around on the tree, picking some persimmons was no problem.
The whole tree was bare of leaves, with only the stubborn red persimmons clinging to the branches.
Pei Qin put in quite an effort and picked every persimmon from the tree.
“Eldest sister!
We can’t finish all these persimmons!

We forgot to leave some on the tree for tomorrow!” San Ya regretted as she held the persimmons in her clothing.
“If we can’t finish them, we’ll sell them!” Now that the weight of supporting the family fell on her shoulders, Pei Qin saw everything as potential money.
San Ya originally wanted to eat a few more to fill her stomach, but upon hearing they’d be sold for money, she immediately couldn’t bear to eat them.
Pei Qin placed the persimmons under a pile of grass to keep them covered, took two for her, handed two to San Ya, and started eating, “Let’s look for something else!” She led her to scout around the mountain.
“Eldest sister!
These persimmons are so sweet!” San Ya could not help exclaiming after taking a bite.
The persimmons they picked were wild, small in size, but these wild persimmons that matured naturally on the tree were the sweetest.
Pei Qin took paths that no one had tread, through thorns and underbrush.
The two of them used the clubs to push through, and finally, they found a second persimmon tree, a large one laden with wild persimmons.
San Ya happily took off her outer garment, “We’ll use this to hold the persimmons!”
Pei Qin climbed the tree with agility, soon picking off all the wild persimmons on the tree.
They had to remove their outer garments to barely fit all of them.
“Eldest sister, let’s go back!” San Ya carrying the heavy package, was indeed Happy.
With these wild persimmons, they would make some money.
Pei Qin’s gaze, however, fell on a patch of woodland not far away.
There were bamboo trees there, and surely there would be bamboo shoots.
The winter shoots that grew at this time were the freshest and most delicious!
But it was getting late today, and they had no tools to dig the shoots, plus they had to carry a bunch of wild persimmons back.
Pei Qin memorized the direction, shouldered the persimmons, and the two of them picked an easier path to return.
