Chapter 90: [90] Assasin With Pretty Eyes

"Did I overdo it?"

Eliron stared at the scorched ground where a large crater now stood.

The riverside was a powerful enclave for elves who wanted to relax. Because of the calming river and the gentle breeze, even Eliron found this place enjoyable.

He sighed.

Now the ground had been upturned, and there were patches of crumbled earth everywhere.

Eliron walked a little to where Drakili had met his demise and stared down at the ashes.

According to Ash, Drakili had been good once.

It was only after his meeting with the high elves, and the massacre of his party, that he changed.

But although there was certainly a sad story behind it, it didn’t help the fact that he lost his way.

He had pulled just how many people down along with him? And in the novel, Artaris would go on to fall, leading to the extinction of the wood elves.

Everything was because of Drakili...

But just as he could not forgive Drakili’s crimes... His fists tightened slightly by his sides.

’It was the same for whoever had made him this way.’

From the novel, Eliron could already guess who that man was. Lord Galanhad...

Eliron raised his chipped blade, his expression calm. Very soon, Galanhad would die by his hands.

The rain came down with even more intensity, soaking Eliron from head to toe.

Although he had long deactivated his skill, he seemed to have triggered a coming storm, so it was no longer in his control.

His elaborate clothing was now weighing him down, so he stripped it off, leaving only his inner garments.

Eliron folded the wet clothing and tossed it to the side, but before the fabric could touch the floor, a booming sound reached his ears.

"I guess it’s starting." He stared at a distance, where a large cloud of dust was rising into the air.

Then Eliron tilted his blade, catching the reflection of someone behind him.

The woman was dressed in tight, black leather armour that followed her curves, and had a long glaive resting on her shoulder.

Whoosh!

She vanished, and Eliron immediately spun, swinging his blade into thin air.

Clang!

Both weapons met with a deafening clang, and Eliron was tossed back by the sheer force behind her blow, his feet gliding on mud before he came to a stop.

He smirked. "Not bad."

Now that he was seeing her clearly, Eliron could make out features he did not notice from her reflection.

The rain had soaked her pale blue hair, making it cling to her face. Freckles dotted her nose like drops of gold, and her eyes were fiercer than a burning furnace.

The first was an electric blue, while the other was golden like the sun.

’A half-breed... part high elf, part wood elf. Or in high elven terms, an abomination.’

There was a slave collar strapped around her neck as proof of their distaste, the runes glowing fiercely as though hot coals were embedded in them.

Eliron smirked. ’Just the person I was hoping for!’

Although Eliron knew an Assassin was on the way, he was not sure who the high elves would send.

They had many warriors under their command, so it could have been anyone.

But there was a reason he wanted Sabrina specifically.

He knew her story from the novel. The miserable slave that had never known freedom.

She was born a slave, and she died a slave in the most miserable way possible.

Apart from her sad story, Sabrina was also half wood elf, meaning she was his kin.

Eliron originally planned on going there himself to rescue her, but now she had walked to him with her own two legs.

’Once I free her...’ Eliron smiled. ’I’ll have another powerful warrior on my side!’

Eliron raised his sword. "If I was told I would be assassinated by someone so beautiful, I would have made the effort to dress up."

Sabrina’s expression shifted slightly. It was as though she could not believe his words.

But she did not say a word as she stepped forward, her glaive held firmly in her hands.

Swoosh—Bang!

Almost as if she teleported, Sabrina appeared right in front of Eliron, the sharp edge of her glaive coming down at his head.

Eliron barely had any time to react. He raised his sword in an upward arc, catching the glaive in time, but the resulting force caused his bones to rattle.

’She is strong!’

Sabrina, being a mix of both high elf and wood elf, got the best qualities from both.

And by both, Eliron meant one... the high elves.

She had just as much mana as the high elves did, so she could use magic right from when she was a child.

After enslaving her, the high elves sought to use this talent for their own gain, so they trained her for years to turn her into their sharpest tool.

’She is at least at the level of a minor commander.’

And that was not the worst part...

"Nero." As the words left her lips, about a dozen large water balls appeared in the air behind her.

...Just like Eliron, Sabrina was a hybrid. She could use sword skills as well as magic.

Whoosh!

Eliron jumped back, narrowly evading the first blast. He shifted his footing as quickly as possible and swung his sword, shattering the second.

He had to hold his breath as the leftover water bathed him.

As the others came, the air began to condense around Eliron, causing his clothes to flutter by his sides.

"Wind slash!"

Bang—Bang—BOOM!

The environment was covered in steam as wind met water, and then out of the steam, a glaive cleaved through as Sabrina appeared out of the mist.

Eliron deflected a series of super-fast blows, each one sending a jolt through his body.

The ornate glaive rotated on the ball of her palm, Sabrina twisting her body underneath a slash.

Then she grabbed the glaive, moving her body with the flow of the staff. As a result, the force behind her strike was even more destructive.

The first strike exploded against the ground, decimating the floor, while Eliron blocked the second, sparks ricocheting off his blade.

He took two steps back, then lunged, his blade lashing out at her. But Sabrina blocked with the shaft of her weapon. She kicked his guard, pushing him back—

Just before she leaped into the air, bringing her glaive down with deafening force.

The glaive glowed a bright blue as she activated a skill.

KABOOM!

Eliron escaped back, a large crack following him as he raced away from the explosion.

But while he was still running, Sabrina appeared by his side, her glaive flashing with killing intent.

Eliron immediately leaned back, his hair grazing the floor. At the same time, he reached for her, wind currents appearing in his hand.

Swish—!

Her glaive cut through the air with a shrill sound, Eliron getting a close-up view of the blade.

Vwooosh!

At the same time, the wind exploded from his hand, knocking Sabrina several feet back.

"Woah!" Eliron exclaimed as he hurried to catch his breath, watching Sabrina as she held her side.

She was by far the most powerful opponent he had ever faced.

Her mana was several times greater than his, and her technique was immaculate.

Worst of all, because she used a glaive, she had a greater reach than his saber. So she could strike without having to get too close to him.

Eliron sighed.

"I guess I can’t take you lightly..."

[SSSR Skill, Mana Breathing]

[SSSR Skill, Foresight]

[SSSR Skill, Luck]

He activated those skills before activating the final one.

’System, activate the SSSR Gacha!’

—[System initializing...]—

[Randomizing skills...]

[Success!!]

When Eliron read the skill the system had suggested, a bright smile appeared on his face as he raised his sword.

He took a deep breath, his mind completely focused on the task ahead of him.

And then his sword flared, a bright red glow appearing on the cold elven steel...

A SWORD AURA!

"SSSR Sword Skill..." He breathed out. "Phoenix Blade."
