Chapter 91: [91] Phoenix Vs Serpent

Sabrina looked surprised from the moment she saw Eliron’s sword glow.

"Sword aura?" She muttered.

Compared to how deadly she looked right now, her voice was rather soft, almost as calming as Delilah’s.

She bit the inside of her cheeks and frowned.

’Why did I have to be assigned this mission?’

Her hands were already soaked in the blood of dozens of people, even now, whenever she looked at them, she would remember each and every face...

Yet, Sabrina had managed to keep her sanity intact, but barely.

She had heard of the wood elves from lord Galanher whenever he would get his monthly report, or the days he took out his anger on her, ridiculing her people as he exercised himself with his whip.

All these while, she had hoped to one day meet them... dreamed of it.

She was treated as scum amongst the high elves, her entire life she was seen to be less than an animal.

Sabrina hoped that things would be different with the wood elves.

How cruel was fate, that they would meet in this manner?

Would she be able to remain sane after murdering dozens of her own kin?

Galanhad knew that these were her people, and yet he had sent her to murder their lord.

The only hope these people had...

The very thought of it made her mouth taste bitter and her heart ache, yet, there was nothing that she could do.

The slave collar buzzed, and Sabrina raised her glaive. It too began to glow a vibrant blue, a direct opposite to the red gleam of Eliron’s sword.

With an agonised heart, and trembling hands, she said:

"Serpent Step. First form — Serpent’s strike."

"Phonix Blade. Second stance — Scarlet Whip."

Both fighters spoke simultaneously, while staring down each other.

The rain seemed to slow down as both of them zoned in, cutting off every single distraction.

Eliron let out a breath...

Clang!

The sound of their clash sent a shockwave cutting past them, followed by mud and wind.

Eliron spun his sword as he approached her, before twisting in the last moment, changing his trajectory and slashing down with terrible force.

When both weapons met, the air seemed to tremble.

He pulled one foot back, before he hurtled forward.

His body became a blur of red motion, wherever Sabrina would look, Eliron was there, his sword glowing menacingly as he unleashed an unbelievable number of strikes.

Yet Sabrina remained composed.

While Eliron lashed at her like a whip, Sabrina was dodging every strike with the flexibility of a serpent.

Her glaive no longer acted as though it was made of steel, it twisted like a rope, intercepting every single attack.

If an observer was present, then they would see nothing but the sparks, and the flashes of deadly aura.

Boom!

The ground caved when it could no longer support them, causing both fighters to jump back.

Sabrina raised her glaive, pointing it forward.

"Pagoménos Thanthos."

The wind grew frigid as the water around her condensed, forming three large ice spikes bigger than herself.

Whoosh!

The spikes tore through the air like rockets, charging right at Eliron.

"You are amazing with the glaive, and even just as talented with magic!"

Eliron felt giddy inside when he thought about how useful she would be to him.

But Sabrina only frowned at his compliments.

He smirked as the spikes raced towards him, each one large enough to blow him to bits and pieces.

"Phonix Blade."

"Third stance — Demonic Shriek."

The air around him became so hot that it was scalding. The moment Eliron swung his blade, a loud deafening cry tore through, shattering the ice spikes to pieces.

’Storm breaker!’

While Sabrina stared at the shattered ice, suddenly a large bolt of lighting tore right through.

She leaned back as the lightning graced her hair, burning the lock of hair to ash.

But before she could even recover, another spell was already being activated.

"Tempest."

The air became heavy with mana, the winds picked up, sharpening like daggers, and then a massive ball of wind was born right above Eliron.

With his hand up, Eliron held the tempest large enough to decimate a hill.

Over the past week, he had memorised countless spells, and now, it was finally time to use them.

Sabrina stared at the spell wide eyed. ’Another SSS ranked skill? How does he have so many?’

She gritted her teeth as she raised her hand, forming a shield of water and ice that reached the sky.

Then came the howl of the tempest—

Bang!

The ice and water shattered, completely flattening the floor where Sabrina had been.

There was a large spiral scar on the ground, the wind creating circular cuts that went deep into the earth.

But as the wild winds cleared, Sabrina was nowhere in sight.

"You are a monster." A cold voice came behind Eliron, accompanied by the flash of steel.

Eliron blocked the glaive and smiled nervously.

’How the hell did she manage to escape that?’

The worse part of it was that while he had burned through half of his mana reserves, Sabrina was still overflowing with mana.

"I summoned the spell, but it was you who escaped." Eliron raised his brows teasingly. "You’re an amazing fighter, why don’t you join me, eh?"

Sabrina’s brows creased in confusion. "Who tries to recruit the person sent to kill them?"

Eliron shrugged. "You know what they say. Yesterday’s enemy may be today’s friend."

She shook her head tiredly. "You are a strange man."

A small smile then tugged at the corner of her lips when she thought of how nice it would have been...

Living this life behind, finally being free...

But it was all meaningless thoughts, there was no escape for her, not in this life at least.

She jumped back, doing a flip before raising her glaive, and bringing it to her knees.

Crack!

The staff split apart in three ways, each connected by a golden chain. The weapon had transformed into a three way staff.

She rotated the weapon in the air, a whooshing sound ringing as the segments cut through the wind, then she caught it, steam billowing from the weapon.

"Serpent Step."

"Sixth form — Coiling Dragon."

Meanwhile,

At the other side of the village...

Based on past history, Eliron had predicted that Artaris would be attacked soon.

But he was not certain of what day the attack would happen, until he got the letter that was meant for Drakili.

Still, the letter did not give any specifics. All it said was that she would not be alone.

Eliron then speculated that if there was to be an attack, it would come from this part of the forest.

Yennefer was standing next to Ash and the other warriors, holding a long wooden staff.

Although it was not a magic staff, it was better than nothing, and would help her focus her mana.

Zenith had also inscribed a rune into it to make it better than a regular stick in the very least.

She stared at the forest, a bored expression on her face.

"How long are we going to waichh." She Yawned, wiping a tear off her eyes.

"I don’t know, it might be any moment from now, or we could end up waiting till nig—"

Yennefer suddenly raised a hand to silence Ash. She stared at the air in front of her like she could see something Ash could not.

There was a slight change in the atmosphere, the area in front of them concentrating with mana.

Then her eyes widened.

She immediately turned around and began jumping, while screaming out to Artie who was very far away from them.

"Artie!!! Artie!!!"

Although Ash did not know what was happening, he knew he had no time to ask her and began signaling Artie as well.

At the other side, one of the elves noticed them and tapped Artie.

"What?"

The man pointed at them.

"I think they are trying to tell you something."

Only then did Artie notice Yennefer and Ash.

Yennefer placed her hands around her mouth and screamed at the top of her voice.

"There are no mercenaries coming!! It is a summon!!!"

Immediately Artie heard a bit of what she said, she grabbed her bow and jumped to her feet.

"All of you, follow me!"

She began sprinting towards them, but it was already too late.

They had spread out their forces to make sure no mercenary got past them, when they should have concentrated it.

Behind Ash and Yennefer, water shot up to the sky like a colossal pillar, right before it froze from the bottom to the top.

Bang!

The ice completely shattered, sending icicles flying in all directions, and out of the mess rose a terrifying creature.

Its body was covered with thick blue scales as tough as steel, long curved horns jutted out of its head, and its maw was lined with razor sharp teeth.

Long scaled wings spread out, sending a ghust of wind blowing past them, massive talons pierced the earth, and then the monster opened its jaw, unleashing a bone chilling, icy wail.

Before them, stood an Ice Wyvern.
