Chapter 334: 334

Antony checked on Michelle.

She looked generally fine except for her paleness, but he was worried that something could have gone wrong when the forest brought her out. High speed in a state of unconsciousness or bare consciousness could be dangerous.

Who knew, maybe Michelle crashed into something and didn’t even realize it herself.

Michelle highly doubted something would be wrong with her, but she still listened to her Master and let him check on her.

After absorbing the Life Stones, she realized that things that she used to notice about herself right away were concealed from her.

So, letting someone else check on her was better.

Naturally, she could ask Nyxaroth what was going on since he had a clear view of her body, but she didn’t want to reveal his existence to others.

She had the feeling that even communicating through the contract with Nyxaroth would let Antony feel it.

Even though Antony was the Master of Concealment, not Detection.

Concealment and detection were closely related, so if one was a master of one of them, they would have a certain understanding of the other.

And that was especially the case with Antony, since his brother was a Master of Detection.

The knowledge would surely rub off on him at least partially.

That was probably how the pair of brothers got so far in their skills.

They must have helped one another, exchanging information and testing skills on one another to find loopholes and perfect them.

So, Michelle wouldn’t let her guard down in front of Antony.

Even if he was her Master and already knew she wasn’t Ana Ostrich.

Sometimes, secrets could be fatal, but more times, letting others know too much had terrible consequences.

Of course, that didn’t mean Michelle didn’t believe Antony.

She could clearly see what kind of person he was.

She just knew that the more people knew about her, the more careful she would have to be.

Antony wouldn’t need to tell anyone about her for others to find out.

Just the monster skill she had, the memory manipulation skill, could ruin her.

Sweet, sweet oblivion was Michelle’s good friend.

But she also made sure to make herself as little oblivious as possible.

Because while some believed that ignorance is bliss, she was convinced of something else: Ignorance kills!

To examine Michelle, Antony summoned his spirit energy and used a basic skill all Ostrich Academy teachers had to know.

Before being accepted, they were taught it.

In the end, they were to have hundreds of students in their care.

Being unable to examine them at least a bit could bring about fatal tragedies.

The skill was simple.

Spread out their spirit energy, envelop it around the student, and then have the student let it into their body.

With that, the teachers could get somewhat of a view of the student’s basic life functions.

After checking on Michelle, Antony was clearly relieved.

"You are fine. No hidden wounds." He concluded.

Michelle nodded, quite happy with that.

"Then, Master, can you start teaching me your concealment skill?"

Michelle was expecting to hear a yes, but instead, Antony shook his head.

"Just because you don’t have any wounds doesn’t mean you are fine after pulling such a stunt! You will go back to the academy and have a healer examine you!"

Hearing that, Michelle wasn’t happy, but she listened to Antony.

So, while Jasmine started training by the Pale Forest and the rest of the disciples were still inside, Antony took Michelle back to the academy and brought her to the Healer’s facility.

When the teacher there heard what Michelle did, he was speechless and started examining her right away.

Seeing that, Antony no longer worried and went back to the Pale Forest.

Sitting in front of the teacher, Michelle stayed on guard.

She was a bit worried that while examining her, the teacher would notice something she didn’t want to have exposed.

Antony didn’t tell her anything, so she couldn’t even be sure whether the teacher wasn’t a Spirit Healer.

Because that would expose that she had merged blood and spirit veins, letting anyone guess she had Spirit Soul Blood.

Michelle kept up a calm facade, but as a healer, the teacher was often confronted with nervous people or people lying or not telling everything, so he could notice even the subtlest of changes in one’s behavior.

Still, he didn’t ask anything.

It was a well-known fact among the teachers that Ana Ostrich had her life recently threatened, so he assumed her tension was because of that.

To examine Michelle, the teacher not only used spirit energy, but also took her pulse and checked her limbs.

Antony did tell him that she flew through the forest, so he knew he had to be thorough.

Michelle didn’t mind when the teacher checked on her, but she knew of a person who was definitely unhappy.

Without even having to try, she could feel Alexander’s presence.

But it was clear no one else could.

That could be for two reasons:

One, that Alexander was deliberately only letting her feel his presence, and second, that as Michelle had some training in detection and was sensitive to presences because of her assassination past, she could just sense Alexander earlier than others.

Also, Michelle was in a Shadow Pact with Alexander, so she could feel his emotions.

Whenever his emotions had a big change, she got a bit on guard, which made her instinctively sense around.

Not aware of Michelle’s thoughts, or the fact that Alexander was nearby and angry, the teacher continued examining Michelle.

Taking hold of her hand, he pressed on the inner side of her elbow, checking the joint and tendons.

The teacher’s grip was quite tight, so before Michelle could even stop herself, just like when she grabbed Alexander by his neck, her elbow bent outwards.

Backwards.

The teacher instantly froze, his gaze moving to Michelle’s face.

Michelle lifted her gaze to look back at him, remaining silent.

"That couldn’t have been caused by a wound..." the teacher’s voice was dire.

"What did you do to end up like this?"

Michelle summoned some spirit energy within her, wondering whether she should wipe the teacher’s memory.

But she highly doubted she would succeed.

All the teachers in the academy were skilled individuals, so he would subdue her before her hands could even near his head.

Not liking Michelle’s silence, the teacher tightened his grip on her elbow, making Michelle frown.

"How did your joint get like this?" he asked.

Michelle instantly yanked her arm to the side, the movement quite unnatural.

"It’s from a poison," she finally lied, rubbing her elbow.

The teacher’s eyes remained narrowed, staring at Michelle in suspicion.

"What poison? What did it do exactly?"

Luckily, Michelle was well-versed in poisons, so she could cook up a lie.

"I nearly fell into a barrel of poison. I ended up catching myself, but my hand entered the liquid. When I pulled it out, my bones were aching and for a while, I couldn’t move my hand. When it got better, my arm was like this."

To make it more convincing, Michelle twisted her arm in quite a few unnatural ways, letting the teacher see it.

Seeing that, the teacher was still a bit skeptical, but he decided to believe her at least partially.

"Only your right arm is like that?" he asked.

Michelle nodded, though it was a lie.

"I didn’t notice anything special aside from that."

That was an alibistic answer.

If the teacher found something more, she could just say she didn’t notice.

She just had to make sure to suppress all those symptoms.

The teacher continued examining Michelle, paying special attention to her joints and tendons to see if she was telling the truth.

After a while, he reached a conclusion.

"If it was poison, it had probably spread throughout your whole system. Your joints are unnaturally soft."

Michelle lifted a brow, as if in surprise.

"I didn’t notice. Does it have some special effects?"

The teacher nodded.

"If you train it properly, you could achieve something similar to your right hand with your whole body."

Michelle continued pretending to be dumb.

"How would that be possible?" she asked.

The teacher took Michelle’s hand and twisted her wrist.

"This is only a little change, but your wrists can bend further than those of normal people. And you could push it further. Not with just your wrists, but with all joints. Just make sure not to go against your bones." 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

Michelle nodded, as if understanding partially.

"What if I don’t do it?" she asked.

The teacher wasn’t sure.

"It could do completely nothing, and you would continue living as you are. Or it could slowly and unnoticeably progress on its own until you are no longer able to control your limbs properly and end up crippled."

Hearing that, Michelle took in a cold breath, making a hissing sound.

In reality, she knew she had no need to train to achieve the result from her right hand on the rest of her body.

She already had her whole body in that state.

But the teacher’s words about not being able to move her limbs properly made sense.

So, Michelle decided that from that day onward, she would regularly train her movement patterns to, first off, be able to keep her movements human so she wouldn’t raise suspicion, and second, not lose control of her body.

She was already thinking of ways to bypass them.
