Chapter 42: Chapter 41 - A Piece of Razanov Family History

A long time ago, about thirty years ago, Astaroth had been released from the seal of Razanov Family Art - World of Sword Ice.

"...That person said, I will automatically break free from the seal by myself when the time comes."

It was true that he had managed to break free from the seal because his soul had finished forming—detached from his physical body.

At that time, he thought that Razanov’s descendants would welcome him when he was freed from the seal.

After all, he had promised to that person that he would help anyone with the last name Razanov.

"So, the reason you helped me when I just freed you was because of the promise you had with my ancestor?"

"How can you say that the person I’m referring to is your ancestor?"

"I’m just guessing."

Although Lev had interrupted, Astaroth continued his story without being asked by Lev.

Sure enough, just as he had expected, right when he had just broken free from the seal, Astaroth was surrounded by people who echoed the Razanov family name. "...They said, in the name of the Razanov family, we are ready to die to fight you, vile demon!"

Astaroth acted out what he saw long ago. He posed as if he was holding a sword in his hand and extended it upwards. The tone he exemplified when performing the demonstration sounded very sarcastic, like a child playing a role.

"...I don’t know why, but they should be happy about my release from the seal, right?!"

"It would be strange if there were humans who were happy about the presence of a demon."

"Ugh! Even so... Did that person not tell his descendants?!"

"Probably so."

Now, as the story entered the final Chapter, the tone of Astaroth’s story turned gloomy. He said that many of the Razanov family members desperately fought against him until he was sealed away again.

Among the people who sealed him away, there was one Razanov family member who did nothing, in other words, just watched from behind. "...I believe that person is your father whom you killed."

"Did they not die when they sealed you?"

"No, they didn’t. They are still alive. Only the one spellcaster who sealed me seems to be dying because he sacrificed his life to activate the magic circle beyond his capacity."

Hearing Astaroth’s explanation, Lev could guess what happened at that moment.

Combining the absurd story where his father, the weakest Razanov, managed to obtain the title of duke, then Lev’s guess was probably accurate.

’So, the lucky story where Andrei managed to survive the succession war is a lie?’

Andrei probably took advantage of the situation where all his family members were busy fighting Astaroth, then stabbed and killed all his family members from behind.

’If he had the heart to stab all his family members first, then it makes sense that he didn’t hesitate to kill me earlier.’

Lev approached Andrei’s head and closed Andrei’s eyes with the palm of his hand.

The scene Lev was doing felt like a sad scene.

Astaroth approached Lev’s face and said, "Wow, do you feel no guilt at all for killing your own father?"

Perhaps it was because Astaroth didn’t see any sadness on Lev’s face that he insinuated this.

It was true that there was no guilt or sadness on Lev’s face. Lev’s eyes were still as calm as ever, there was no emotional turmoil depicted on his eyes or face.

Lev himself felt confused.

Should he be sad when he killed Andrei, his own biological father?

A normal person would definitely have that kind of inner conflict.

Or, if he was the main character of this world, he would fall into deep emotions for sure.

Even though he knows that his father was a sinner who willingly took the lives of innocent people, his mind must be conflicted between his feelings of family love and his sense of justice.

The sense of justice arises from the feeling of wanting to protect the lives of Andrei’s victims and the feeling of wanting to represent them for revenge... yet Lev feels no sense of justice for the people at all.

As for the feeling of love for family members, it should have come from small interactions over a dozen years—from Lev’s childhood to adulthood. However, those small interactions never really existed either. That made Lev not feel sad about losing his father.

Perhaps the effect of the memory of his life on earth also helped in keeping him calm—a memory where he was betrayed by his own family. It made it easy to draw the sword on Andrei.

When the sense of justice was absent and grief was absent, he realized that he killed Andrei purely for his own gain.

He planned to annex Andrei’s rank of duke so that he could soon have his own territory, his own wealth, and his own military forces. In other words, a foothold to anticipate future chaos.

The sooner he had a foothold, the better.

Before leaving the field boss, Lev picked up the memory orb. His lips widened slightly when he realized that the memory orb had recorded everything that needed to be recorded.

"What are you doing?" Astaroth asked while tilting his body.

"Just editing a bit." Lev tweaked the image that had been recorded on the memory orb to only show Andrei’s transformation to demon form—the right hand and eye, as well as the aura.

"Editing? What’s that?" Astaroth circled around Lev’s head. When Lev finished editing and wanted to leave, Astaroth pulled at his clothes but failed and could only shout, "...Hey, if you’re going to leave, at least take my limbs attached to your father’s corpse with you."

"Why should I?"

"Whoever sees the eyes and right hand of your father’s corpse, will definitely realize that they are part of this great demon’s physical body."

"And then?"

"Fools. They will go crazy and take them."

"...Are you afraid that the person who took the right hand and eye from your physical body will do evil?"

"Grrrrr! It’s not like that, silly boy! I just don’t want others to use my physical body parts. Just imagining my physical limbs attached to a human would drive me crazy, you understand!"

Astaroth ended up raising his tone of voice and shouting right in Lev’s earhole.

In the end, Lev agreed with Astaroth’s coercion.

The problem was, that he had no place to store a large item the size of a human body—a human hand. The magic pouch he had would not fit. If he had to wrap it in cloth, then surely the blood from the severed hand would drip on the ground. That would allow others to track its whereabouts later.

Astaroth finally made a suggestion. "Take it easy. Did you forget that my specialty is space magic?"

Unlike humans who could only choose between Aura or Mana—which meant choosing the path between physical or magic, a demon had an innate Aura equivalent to that of a human knight and mana equivalent to that of a human magician.

In other words, a demon was a combination of a knight and a magician. So, it was natural that the continent of Avalon in the future would be consumed by demons.

Since Aura Astaroth’s characteristic was space, it was natural that he could use space magic.

With the chanting of a mysterious spell, a magic circle formed in the air right in front of Astaroth. Blackish light emanated from the intricate image of the magic circle. Then a mysterious black hole appeared out of thin air.

Lev thought about the Black Magic Authority he had when he saw the magic demonstrated by Astaroth.

Every time he performed magic with the Black Magic Authority, he never brought up such an amazing magic circle. Although there was the word magic in Black Magic Authority, he never really felt that he had used magic.

Speaking of magic to store things, Lev could also open an inventory while still on Earth. However, the use of Dark Mana was overwhelming. He could only create some sort of inventory when he was about to reach his end.

’Will I be able to open an inventory later?!’

He was curious whether or not the items on earth that he had stored would be able to be retrieved and used again.

"What are you doing? Quickly take my eyes and hand!"

Hearing Astaroth’s complaint, Lev pried out both of Andrei’s eyeballs with his hands. Then he approached Andrei’s corpse. He cut off Andrei’s right hand with a single swing of the sword.

Astaroth explained that all items put into the black hole would be in a fixed state, so Lev threw Andrei’s two eyeballs and right hand without worrying about them rotting. ’... Maybe those eyeballs and hand will come in handy later.’

While dismantling Andrei’s body, Lev found Andrei’s magic pouch.

He wanted to check the contents of Andrei’s magic pouch, but since he didn’t have any more time, he also threw it into the black hole made by Astaroth along with his own magic pouch.

When everything that needed to be done was done, Lev exited through the hidden room in Andrei’s private office.
