The Forgotten Slayer-Chapter 19: Laughing matter
Chapter 19 - Laughing matter
Clyde needed to get back to the academy soon. He could barely walk on one leg and both of his arms were useless at the moment. Despite his condition, only one emotion was remaining with him.
After him and Lapis shared the same statement together, Clyde couldn't hold it in anymore and began to chuckle.
Lapis glanced at him for a moment and sighed. As Clyde's chuckle grew into a full blown laugh, Lapis couldn't contain himself either.
The situation is unbelievable. Literally no one would or could believe them. It was basically impossible for themselves to believe.
Calming down Clyde grew grim. One thing they both knew was true was the carnage surrounding them. People who volunteered to come out with them only to be killed.
'I'm sorry.'
"Let's get out of here."
The mood had returned to its original state. Lapis's usually attitude returned as well as he spoke to Clyde.
"How are we gonna explain this to Avelyn?"
"It's a good thing she knows us because if I were her I wouldn't believe the story either. In any case we did stop a great threat and the wolf pack is nowhere to be seen, likely eaten by what we dealt with."
The two could probably go up the road a ways to see the aftermath of the Wolfpack now that the illusion was broken, but there was no time for that now.
With nothing else to say Clyde and Lapis left the roof and made their way to the street. There the gruesome sight of the members at Clyde's building were found.
After taking a moment for the fallen the pair began their journey back to the academy in silence. Neither one was much of a talker and a normal person wouldn't communicate after an event like this anyway. Clyde could only think of the noise from all the people he came here with and how they're gone now.

Two civilians, a man and a woman, were running in a field outside of Avalor. They decided it they might have better chances in the wild after seeing what's going on inside the city.
Running in front of the woman the man started to run out of breath. To his surprise the amount of beast and monsters had grown smaller the further they got.
"You were right after all my love."
"I usually am. But seriously think about it, this whole ordeal doesn't seem right at all."
Before the man could reply he disappeared in front of the woman causing her to panic. A second later a hand stretched out to her. It was the man.
As she reached it the hand pulled her in. The bright rays of the sun hit the two for the first time in what was likely a few days.
Turning around was a dark wall. A dome was what it actually was but from the size of it they only saw it as a wall.
"I agree this definitely is wrong."
"Oh really now...."
"Someone must be behind this. We need to get help!"
A third voice spoke this time.
"Say goodbye."
A tall man with long silver hair appeared out of nowhere next to the two. Dressed in a silver robe that had a strange checkered pattern covering the robe in its entirety, he was unmistakeable.
"You're John of the-"
The man's head went flying causing the girl to scream. A scream that was cut short as her body hit the ground.
"I gave you an opportunity to say your peace, and you waste it. People never listen."
He looked down at his feet that got some blood on it.

"Even after death I am annoyed by you."
For the plan to work things at Avalor needed to wrap up. John felt something was wrong especially when his connection to his pet was destroyed.
'I guess I have to dirty my hands personally, there won't be any survivors after all. Lucas was right.'

The walk back was becoming unbearably slow. Clyde knew it was due to himself and he felt guilty about it. Not that Lapis showed any signs of caring.
'I shouldn't be complaining, at least we didn't encounter anything this time.'
Before long the sight of the structure was in front of them. They had made it back in one piece. Well he was essentially crippled and lapis had deeply cut himself.
Climbing these last few steps were like agony to Clyde.
"Give me your arm will you?"
Lapis didn't say anything but helped Clyde to continue.
In front of the door Lapis opened it and pulled Clyde in with him. Avelyn was already waiting for them.
As the door closed behind them, she walked up to their faces.
A few seconds went by as she checked their eyes and then she began to talk.
"Where is everyone."
Lapis answered.
"Dead."
Avelyn took a moment and thoroughly looked at Clyde's body. From his fingertips to his shoulders the skin was black and blue. His chest piece armor was nearly destroyed and one of his legs was the same as his arms. He would need new armor seeing that his arms were bare alongside the exposed leg.
"Clyde, are you okay?"
Clyde groaned.
"Never felt better."
Finishing the sentence he coughed a little blood and then replied.
"Could use a healers touch."
Avelyn let out a sigh of relief as Lapis rolled his eyes. She lowered her head to reach Clyde's ear and whispered.
"You never change do you, my knight?"
Clyde didn't bother whispering back.
"Do not even remind me."
Lapis looked confused as Avelyn started to laugh.
"Don't mind her, she's crazy."
Lapis already knew that but he found it amusing Clyde didn't realize he was just as crazy as her. Not that he would tell him that.
Before anything else happened Clyde's eyes closed and Lapis felt the full weight of his body.
"I'll take him from here."
Avelyn picked Clyde up and put him over her shoulder.
This was just another reminder to Lapis regarding his master. It wasn't that she was strong or tall. Neither was it about her talent and leadership. It was her gentleness and grace.
With Clyde on avelyns shoulder she carried him up the stairs and to her office.
