Chapter 118: Back Home

For the first time in his life, Dhein felt like he was in a real, inescapable danger. His heart was beating abnormally fast and cold sweat was streaming down his face. Everything seemed to turn black and white as his vision was beginning to fail him too.

The corners of his field of vision were growing darker, colors were fading. And behind his mind, a sinister laugh echoed like a looming threat.

’Did he trick me?!’ Dhein thought, panicking while clutching his head.

Zarria’s footsteps drew his attention. He looked up and saw his little sister and relatives approaching him.

She was smiling with admiration as she spoke.

"Welcome back, Dhein," she said.

Axerion stood beside Zarria and said:

"I can’t wait to hear about your progress in the demonic continent. But for now, I’m glad that you made it in time."

When they noticed that something was obviously wrong with Dhein, a frown crossed their faces.

"Dhein? What’s the matter?" Zarria asked worriedly.

He used all of his will power to try and look at her face. But truthfully, he didn’t know if he was able to look her in the eyes as his vision, as well as his hearing were beginning to be stolen by a god.

"I’m fine, just tired," he uttered.

This must have been how Queen Margaret Garvill felt when she was fighting Cyreth. Indeed, no one would be able to resist it.

Zarria held his hand.

"Let’s go home and leave the cleanup to the imperial soldiers."

His hand suddenly moved on its own and grabbed her by the shoulder. After what he did, she was visibly startled and confused.

"Dhein?"

His head was facing down and covered by his other hand. With a mix of fear and rage, he whispered:

"You bastard. You lied to me."

Zarria’s eyebrows furrowed after hearing this. She was utterly confused.

"W—What?"

She immediately thought back about what her older brother might be talking about. She tried to remember any time when she had lied to him that warranted this level of anger he was showing now, but couldn’t come up with one.

Meanwhile, Dhein was fighting for his life. He planted his feet firmly to the ground to stop himself from falling due to the extreme dizziness.

Then, Cyreth replied.

’I didn’t lie to you, that wasn’t the last star I needed.’

Dhein gritted his teeth.

With all his might, he regained partial control over his hand and let Zarria go. He then took unstable steps in the opposite direction while signaling Zarria not to follow him.

"Then why the hell am I going through this shit?" he furiously asked.

After a moment, Cyreth replied.

’This is news to me too. Apparently, the closer I get to completing the stars, the stronger my control over your body becomes. You’re no longer in control fully like you used to be, human.’

If that was the case, then it was all the more reason that Dhein couldn’t really rely on Cyreth’s power. But it was too late now. The fallen god had managed to gain yet another leverage on Dhein in terms of this divine tug of war.

Still, this was better than being completely replaced. At least he was still able to resist and find a way to banish this god completely before he gained another additional star. He absolutely cannot be released into the world. He was an existence that shouldn’t be allowed.

Dhein fought with everything he had. It was like swimming up in a quicksand. Dhein carefully and systematically held on to his consciousness, wary not to give up some fragments of it to the oblivion that was forcing to swallow him whole.

And after some struggle, he managed to put the damn god in his rightful place.

Dhein was breathing heavily, his face and neck drenched in sweat. He then turned to Zarria and the others who were looking at him worriedly.

It was a matter of urgency. Dhein needed to get his soul back as soon as possible!

He began to walk back to where his relatives were standing and spoke a few words to not make them worry any more.

"I’m fine now. Let’s go home."

The Theocheiróses looked at each other before they nodded at him.

And with that, Dhein and Zarria were on their way back home.

After hours of traveling, Dhein and the others stopped by the capital to let the horses rest. They took the moment to get some fresh air and take a break too.

Shina was already in the castle and was currently lying to the emperor, saying that she really had taken a vacation in Tianmin. And since there was no commotion outside, Dhein figured that Vedis had believed his daughter.

Soon, they resumed their travel southward to the Theocheirós Manor.

Throughout the whole journey, Zarria was throwing glances at Dhein. Of course she would overthink about the things he had said while violently grabbing her shoulder too.

For that, Dhein was immensely pissed at Cyreth.

He looked at her and spoke, which startled the dark-haired girl.

"I’m sorry about earlier, Zarria. I wasn’t referring to you."

She looked at him with eyes begging for answers.

"It was just a spur of the moment action. I didn’t mean to hurt you like that."

She had no reason to doubt his words, so she nodded.

"I understand, Dhein."

Still, Zarria couldn’t help but wonder what might be happening behind the scenes — the mysteries that only a genius like him would be involved with. She figured that no matter how hard she tried and no matter how strong she became, there would always be a realm that only people like Dhein could reach. The best thing she could do was follow orders and hope that she wouldn’t get in the way in the grand scheme of things that Dhein had been dealing with.

After a few more hours, they had reached the front gate of the Theocheirós Manor.

It had felt like forever since Dhein stepped foot in his own home. He wanted to do nothing more than collapse to his own bed.

The sky was dark too, so they were about to have dinner.

After getting out of the carriage, Dhein immediately greeted his mother and went inside the mansion.

And on the side of the doorway, he couldn’t help but feel Julius’ hateful gaze...

In the perspective of this cousin of his, Dhein might have ruined his family. His father was imprisoned and their family’s name was tarnished.

He passed the blonde man by wordlessly and went straight to the long table by the grand hall.

When the servants were done preparing, the Theocheirós Family had their dinner.

Jovian Theocheirós and her family was present, as well as Aaron Theocheirós, Galiex Theocheirós, Axerion’s siblings and their families.

Karina Theocheirós, Raymond’s wife and Julius Theocheirós was also at the dinner table.

In this family, no one takes punishments personally. If you are proven to be a filthy sinner, a swine that breaks the family code, it is only natural for you to be thrown to hell.

The Divinity Clan doesn’t spare a soul. Everyone must be judged equally, even the Godhand himself.

"So," Axerion started after Neral prayed for the food.

"Dhein, my son. You can start with your report about the demonic continent. Have you successfully crushed those monsters once and for all?"

He threw a glance at his father while holding his fork and knife. Dhein wasn’t feeling well in revealing his findings in Sekhtar.

Should he tell them everything? Can he really trust anyone about this?

With a deep breath, Dhein spoke.

"No."

Axerion and the others exchanged confused looks.

Dhein continued.

"There’s something you need to know."

Edvic looked at him sharply for some reason.

Nonetheless, he proceeded to speak.

"The demon aren’t who we think they are. They’re just people like us, corrupted by the evil fallen angel that enslaved them for centuries."

"I have defeated Angelus permanently. But I discovered that demonkind is just an evolved animal like us. They weren’t made by some kind of dark power nor they emerged from the depths of hell. They have kids too. They engage in mundane little things like we do. They’re just people."

Zarria seemed to be the most shocked by the information he just provided. While the older folks were more shocked that he chose to say these things. Dhein couldn’t help but think that they knew something.

"I want the border to be opened. I will integrate our civilization with theirs."

Edvic slammed the table hard, drawing all attention to him.

"Dheinyrus, what nonsense are you spouting? Demons are the spawn of the devil! Didn’t you see firsthand the activities they have been doing in Callex? The cursed food they distributed in the slums?"

Dhein fearlessly answered.

"That was all because of Angelus, grandpa. Sure there are evil demons, but aren’t there vile humans as well? You can’t just judge a whole race because of what a few of them did."
