The Gamer's POV-Chapter 194: Home of the Hollow Ones [10]
With her bonded ability currently active, Evelyn could have easily grown out another arm. However, if she did that, she would be low on energy and would need more blood. Her enhanced speed, unnatural strength, and boosted stamina would all be gone in an instant.
The problem was that her opponents didn’t bleed. Because of this, she had no way of replenishing her reserves mid-fight and had to conserve her energy.
"Damn it!"
Evelyn leapt back, dodging the spear of a hollow one. Then, at that moment, one of her puppets, which was a hollow one made of blood, suddenly reached out and grabbed the hollow one from behind, locking it in place.
In the split second that it was caught off guard and had to turn its attention behind, Evelyn lunged forward with a strained, guttural cry, piercing its chest. She then leaned her entire body weight into the shaft, forcing the hollow one to stagger back deeper into the waiting, sticky embrace of her blood puppet.
The blood puppet let the body fall to the ground, and at that moment, Evelyn rushed to the corpse while biting her finger to draw a bit of blood.
Then, she quickly drew a circle with a hexagram inside it, after which she activated her exclusive skill, Eternal Covenant.
Almost immediately, the blood on the creature’s chest began to bubble and spread. Then it began to rise upward, coagulating until a hollow one made of blood stood in front of her.
It picked up its spear, and looked around the chaotic space. Then it left Evelyn and began walking away, slowly at first, before it began to run, spinning its spear and finally bringing it down on a hollow one that Dion was fighting with not too far away.
Evelyn took a few tired breaths, but while she was at it, her ears twitched and she immediately leapt away. Just then, a spear slammed into the ground where she had been standing seconds before. Another hollow one had approached her from the side. Evelyn steadied her footing, then locked her gaze on the new attacker. She spat on the floor, gritted her teeth, and cursed, "Give me a break!"
Clutching her heavy spear to her side, she widened her bloodshot eyes, let out a battle cry, and lunged forward again.
At the same time, the creature took out its spear from the ground and, in the same breath, spun round in a full circle. Its spear clashed with Evelyn’s, scraping against hers as they locked into a stalemate.
Meanwhile, several meters away from her, Audrey was also locked in a fierce melee battle with three hollow ones. She held two metallic arrows in both hands, using them like short, jagged daggers to parry the incoming thrusts, while her bow was hung across her back. Despite the reach of their spears, Audrey moved within the guard of the hollow ones, her eyes darting between them as they flashed with a cold, piercing green light.
None of her party members knew that she could actually move like that, and so they had all been surprised, but even more than that was the fact that she was actually the one with the most kills among them.
Well, to be honest, even she did not know that she could move like that in the beginning. You see, during this fight, she had discovered something peculiar about her abilities which changed everything for her.
What made her a good archer was the fact that her attribute gave her an eye that could lock on to her target, and this ensured that she barely ever missed her mark. But then, during this fight, after being backed into a corner, she discovered that she could use her eyes for other purposes. For instance, she could lock her eye onto a person’s weapon and arm, allowing her to predict exactly where a strike was going to land.
She then decided to pair that ability with her flight. With her feet not on the floor, but hovering slightly above it, she became incredibly agile. This allowed her to pivot and glide around the hollow ones with ease, making it almost impossible for them to pin her down.
When this was paired with her automatic defense ability, Audrey suddenly went from being a vulnerable long-range specialist to becoming an absolute combat monster.
None of the hollow ones could catch her.
After exchanging a rapid series of strikes with three at the same time, one of them overextended, leaving its chest wide open. Audrey didn’t waste the second; she pivoted, dodging the weapon, then glided forward horizontally and drove one of her metallic arrows straight through the creature’s throat.
The second hollow one decided to seize the opportunity, thrusting its spear forward in a direct line for her head. But then, Audrey’s form suddenly faded like smoke, reappearing just a few meters away, right beside the creature.
Before it could even register her presence, she used her momentum to wrap her leg around the creature’s head, pulling herself close. In one fluid motion, she thrust her metallic arrow deep into its chest.
The third one struck out suddenly, forcing her to react. Leaving the arrow embedded in the second hollow one’s chest, Audrey flew backward to avoid the strike, then surged upward until her back was nearly touching the ceiling. From her vantage point, she drew five arrows at once, nocked them onto her bow, and let them fly.
The hollow one spun its spear in a desperate blur, swatting the projectiles aside. However, one of the arrows managed to find a gap, bridging the distance and sinking directly into the hole in its chest. The creature staggered for a moment, its movements grinding to a halt before it finally toppled over to the side, dead.
From this height, Audrey looked around at the chaos unfolding below. She could see Evelyn currently locked in a fierce battle with her own attacker. But then, some meters away, she spotted another hollow one that had gone unnoticed. It was drawing an arrow of its own and aiming straight for Evelyn’s head.
Audrey quickly pulled out an arrow, nocked it, and took aim. The creature released its shot, but Audrey’s arrow flew with such precision that it intercepted the projectile mid-air, knocking it off course. The creature froze and slowly looked up, only to see Audrey already descending toward it like a bird of prey with two arrows held firmly in her hands as she prepared to finish it off.
