The General's Wife Wants to Leave-Chapter 154: Husband
Chapter 154: Husband
Upon hearing the cold response he received from his wife, Canillas raised his head, reluctantly separating from the scent and the warmth that made him somehow calm. He then searched Joanna’s eyes, trying to be in her sight no matter how much she avoided his.
Once he got her focus on him as he blocked her gaze on the window, he said, "Then, do me one favor, Joanna." With Joanna’s eyes on his, he continued to say, "Call me husband."
Surprised at the more daring request he made, Joanna drifted her eyes away, breaking free from the intense gaze that locked hers, implying that she was not willing to give him what he asked for.
Perceiving the meaning of her silent answer, Canillas said further, "Just this once, Joanna. Call me husband, and we’ll prepare to leave."
Canillas knew that it was never easy to get what he longed for from his cold wife. Even though she had surprised him with her willingness to maintain their marriage and not brought up the word of marriage annulment anymore since their encounter with the so-called most beautiful lady in Barasca, it did not mean that she was willing to do what a normal wife would do with her husband.
They were still trapped in a problematic marital relationship, and she still wanted to keep her distance from him.
Therefore, Canillas could only ask for something that he thought would be fair for both of them. He would satisfy his yearning since he had met her in person, and she did not need to do something that she did not like because he forced her to call him husband from now on.
He just wanted to hear it once from her, and it was directly to him, not when she introduced him to someone else or when she talked to defend him from someone else.
And his words worked on pulling Joanna’s eyes back on his. "I promise we’ll leave after this. Just this once," Canillas reassured with a smile.
Biting inside her cheek, Joanna contemplated for a few seconds while looking at the gleaming eyes that were full of anticipation before making her decision.
"Hus..." But unknowingly, it was not easy for her to say that single word.
Joanna was back to closing her lips, looking at the anticipation that was still painted on the face of the man whose body warmth that had enveloped her had come to her senses since she woke up from her slumber.
"Hus..." Joanna gave it another try, but she was back to being silent again before finishing saying that single word.
But the anticipation of her source of warmth was not dim yet. It was still brightly drawn on his face, which was about two inches away from hers, where she could feel his warm breath collide with hers.
Joanna wanted to decline his demand, but she felt that she had no heart to do so. She also did not want to be too cruel to him. He just wanted her to say it once, not more than that.
Besides, the way he looked at her reminded her of kids expecting the gift they had dreamt of for a long time. And she had no heart to disappoint those kids, as she imagined the kids in the Powel Orphanage would eagerly wait for their birthday gift, and they would walk with their shoulders slumping when they did not get the gift.
Aside from all of the reasons she tried to build inside her, by granting his wish, she could end all this making baby-like gestures as soon as possible. Hence, Joanna would give it another push.
"Hus..." But it was still not an easy task to complete. Yet the gleaming eyes did not dim. It was still sparkling, as if telling her that they would wait until they heard what they saw.
Thus, Joanna had no choice but to continue to do what she needed to do.
"Husband!" And Joanna finally managed to complete the task that would earn her freedom, although it was uttered in a brief shout that sounded like a gust of wind.
Receiving no response from the man who asked for her favor to do so, Joanna, who brought her gaze to the sleeping fireplace after exclaiming that word, glanced back at him only to find him once again in a daze, just like how he looked last night when she asked about why he chose her as his wife.
It made Joanna ponder, directing her eyes back to see the dazed man with her brows drawn together. He once again looked like he was with her, but his soul seemed to be away, leaving his body unattended.
"Sir Canillas," Joanna called, like she did to pull him from his dreaming-like state last night, still with the title before the name attached.
Subsequently, different from last night, she received a response from him without calling him more than once.
A smile. It was the response that was given to her before she heard him say, "Thank you, wife."
With that being simply said, Canillas shifted his body to the side as he attempted to make way for his wife to get the freedom she had asked for.
However, when the blanket that had wrapped their bodies was lifted up by Canillas, as if he wanted to make a more open, easy way for her to escape, Joanna did not make any moves after she managed to raise her body to sit on the bed.
The room was far from being regarded as bright enough yet, even though more intensity of the light of dawn streamed through the window. However, it seemed to be enough to help an object reflect the light that reached one’s eyes.
Slowly drifting her eyes from the object that captured her breath to the man who still lay on his side next to her, propping his body with his elbow, Joanna saw him fix his gaze on the object that she had seen before. fгeewebnovёl.com
Soon, without any delay, Joanna pulled down the hem of her crumpled nightgown that was rolled up above her knees, which seemed to be a result of her frantic escaping moves from the man that embraced her, covering back the fair, smooth pair of slender legs from all eyes that could see.
Not wanting to see another reaction from him, Joanna jumped off the bed and dashed toward the door. Although she did not want to see her husband’s reaction, Joanna could not avoid hearing the chuckle that reverberated in the serene room.
Laying back on the bed on his chest, the smile that was formed after the chuckle slowly faded away.
