The Gigolo System in the Academy of Magic-Chapter 30: How Strong is Kira?
Chapter 30 - How Strong is Kira?
When Gorran returned to the waiting area reserved for the demon tribe, the air around him was heavy with frustration. Most of the demons were silent, all though he had defeated two people, the way he lost just now was quite embarrassing for them.
The red-skinned demon, Amon, glanced sideways at Gorran and gave him a simple nod and said:
"Good job."
Hearing this the stone demon had a wide grin on his face, then he complained while getting his injuries treated:
"If only I wasn't so tired from before, I wouldn't have lost!"
"Two spells."
Gorran turned, blinking. "What?"
"He used two basic spells to defeat you," Amon repeated, not even looking at him.
That blunt truth struck like a hammer. Gorran's grin faltered, and he clenched his fists tightly. He glanced back toward the arena, where the figure of the boy in plain mage robes stood under the sun, his expression thoughtful.
Just as the tension settled among the demons, Selena's voice echoed through the arena, magically amplified to reach every ear. "Next demon challenger. Step forward."
The pale, snake-faced demon rose to his feet, his long white hair trailing behind him like a ghost's veil. A smug grin danced on his lips as he turned to Amon.
"Let me take care of this. It'll be quick."
The snake demon walked into the arena with a swagger, his forked tongue flicking between his teeth. As he crossed the magical boundary, his aura erupted outward—a level two mage. A strong gust rushed outward from his body, causing dust to lift from the arena floor.
"Human, you got lucky before," he announced haughtily. "Let me show you the real power of the demon tribe."
James didn't even blink. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
He turned to Selena and said in a calm, even voice, "I give up."
"Huh?" The snake-faced demon stared at him in disbelief. "What do you mean, give up? Don't you have any pride?"
James looked at him strangely.
"I'm only a level one mage. How can I fight you? I know my limits."
Then, without any fanfare, he walked off the stage, his pace relaxed and unhurried.
Selena didn't skip a beat and announced:
"Woodrow forfeits the match. Next up, Kira Nocturne."
James walked off the stage and passed Kira on the way.
"Good luck," James said softly as he passed her.
She didn't respond, merely gave him a sideways glance before stepping into the arena.
James rejoined the crowd, scanning their expressions covertly. This time people looked a lot more friendly, but because of Ryan Everheart they wouldn't show it too overtly.
One of Ryan's cronies even complained, "This kid's really lucky. He just messed around and got a free win. If Darien hadn't -"
James didn't listen to the rest of it as we walked back to the edge of the crowd.
Professor Helene greeted him with a smile on her face.
"You really scared me before!"
James laughed embarrassingly, but he was thinking she was the one who scared him! Even though there was an arena shield between them, those black flames were quite imposing.
"By the way, how did you discover it? I'm curious."
James knew what she was talking about.
Actually he had noticed quite early in the previous match with Darien, after all Abyss Walker bloodline not only made him sensitive to shadows but also to changes in space. When the stone demon fought Darien, he kept rushing forward as if he wanted to end the match quickly but actually it was just a delay tactic. He was coverly planting small seeds throughout the arena.
James wasn't exactly sure how they worked but when Darien approached the seeds they would suddenly germinate into thick vines and attack him, allowing the stone demon to restrain him and then take him out with a sudden attack.
So the first thing James did was use wind magic to scatter the seeds, as long as the vines couldn't erupt and restrain him, he knew could win.
In fact there are two ways to fight him, the first way is what he did.
But the second way seems counterintuitive but it is too immediate to rush the stone demon. The reason he can tank spells so easily has to do with the distance. At close level it would not be so easy, and he would probably quickly run out of mana. And then the vines also wouldn't be able to germinate because of the lack of set up time.
Of course, there may be other methods as well. James had a feeling that the stone demon might be weak to physical attacks, contrary to what people might think. But he didn't test it out.
After all he only needed to win, the most efficient and safest way was the best way.
James explained the seeding mechanism he had noticed to Helene, while leaving out the other parts.
"You're quite smart."
Helene nodded slowly, clearly impressed.
"Then...about the question..."
"I will teach the last lesson today, so can you ask me after class. I'll do my best to help you but..." Helene turned to James with a curious look in her eyes.
"...Is it a question or a request?"
But this time James didn't answer. His eyes had locked onto the arena again.
The snake demon had just transformed, his neck elongating grotesquely as his head became that of a giant serpent. A cloud of green venom spewed from his jaws, blanketing the field with toxic mist.
But Kira remained perfectly calm. She lifted a hand, her voice ringing clear through the mist.
"Twin Flame Dragon."
A colossal flame surged from her palms, forming into a two-headed dragon of pure fire. The beast roared as it charged, swallowing the snake's head in one clean swoop.
A shrill scream rang out.
Then—silence. A blackened, smoking body dropped to the ground. The snake demon had reverted to his humanoid form, charred and barely breathing.
Gasps erupted across the arena.
The demon spectators were silent.
Even the students of Ainsworth stood stunned. After three long matches, this one had ended in mere seconds.
